I fully agree, lol. Especially after I've found out that the 4th prince has the head of Kurapika's best friend Pairo.

Can't wait for a showdown b/w Kurapika and the 4th prince on the cruise ship or after everyone has arrived on the Dark Continent.

What do you think of Kurapika nowdays? His mind seems to have become corrupted nowadays.

He actually kind of scares me here. He still acts calm and in control most of the time, but this shows he's clearly unstable and ready to snap at a moment's notice. Kurapika said he'd been able to reclaim the other Scarlet Eyes without killing, however, I don't think it would take much to push him over the edge.

How long has it actually been since Togashi released a chapter?

What animes are you guys planning to watch? Overall, this seems to be rather a weak start for this year. I'll be watching Akagami no Shirayuki-hime season 2, Boku dake ga Inai Machi, Durarara!!x2 Ketsu, and Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.

I meant to post my thoughts on the chapter days ago, but my internet is stupid so I'm several days late.

I read the first chapter a bit ago when it first came out. I'll just paste my thoughts from Tumblr here.

 

Chapter 1

 

The action sequence was neat, though one particular part wasn’t as clear as it probably should have been (What did Noe do after he threw Ameila in the air? It looks like he flipped backward, but Vanitas wasn’t in front of him when he did. And then in the next panel, he’s right in front of Vanitas punching him? Huh? How?). I wonder if that’ll be touched up for the final release or not.

 

What mainly concerns me, though, are some major possible inconsistencies which need to be addressed for the chapter to make any sense:

1. Vampires and their eye color
   So, vampires apparently have red eyes. If this is a distinct feature of vampires in this world, then how did Noe not immediately recognize Amelia was a vampire? Surely those red eyes would jump out at him as soon as he sees her face, especially if he’s a vampire himself. I’ll forgive Vanitas not immediately recognizing Noe, since he’d only seen him from a distance and even commented on his mistake afterward, but Noe not noticing Amelia’s red eyes upon first few glances is dumb. This needs elaboration, badly.
    
2. Vampires can be affected by fellow vampires’ bites
   Noe is bitten by Amelia and not only bleeds profusely, but also observes how his strength is being drained. It’s important to note that this is not the poison; he only later realizes she had poisoned him. This is the bite itself affecting him, draining his strength. So, vampires are affected by other vampires’ bites in this world? And they bleed excessively, too? Is this an intentional departure from the norm, or a slip-up in the writing? Or is this a completely normal detail in the vampire mythos, and I’m just ignorant of its existence?
    
3. Vanitas
   Vanitas claims he is a regular human being. Let’s just ignore the obvious fangs he has in this series which has vampires in it. The real question is: if he’s just human, how did he survive that massive fall from the air transport? Not to mention that he fell head-first. If he is just a regular human being like he claims, then that makes a negative amount of sense, and is a glaring problem.

I really, really hope the next few chapters clear these up, or at least address them in some way.

Story-wise, yes, NS would have been a more natural conclusion, from our perspective at least. I'm sure NH/SS have their reasons why they feel differently. Though I imagine not all of them are happy with the ending either -- the ones who cared about more than just seeing their ship canon -- because God knows there's still plenty of holes and shoddy writing in the lackluster latter part of the manga to be unhappy about, pairings aside.

I really can't imagine NH/SS fans reaction being all that different than ours. Some would have raged and made empty threats, just like some NS fans did. Some would have been disappointed, but eventually moved on and just shipped their preferred pairing as fanon, just like many NS fans have. We really are not the better or more mature faction of the fandom just because of what we shipped. It's silly and nonsensical to pretend like we are.

That's what makes me believe this isnt real. Things just pop up with no explanation. Villains and issues are solved with no big effort...

IMO, that's just because Kishimoto is a lazy writer who stopped caring about putting any effort into his work. Besides, it's not like the quality of the manga dropped suddenly. It had been going progressively downhill since the end of the Pein arc.

There's nothing wrong with having theories and wanting to hope for something different than what we got. It's understandable that some people still want that. But I just don't understand where the confidence in Kishimoto's writing ability comes from after he's shown himself many times over to be someone who pieces his plot together out of thin air and changes pre-established plot points completely on a whim.

Well, I'm almost done now, only four more eps. to go. From there, I'll pick up the manga. I have to say, there were at least a couple times during the Chimera Ant arc where I almost cried. It got me very emotional towards the end.

 Kishimoto isn't even worth getting upset over. He's so full of BS that nothing he says even phases me anymore.

So I finished Yorknew arc yesterday. It was sooo good, though I think I will take just a short break to catch up on some other stuff before starting the next arc.
