To be honest it wasn't a bad idea. It was poorly executed and the writer focus too much on Meiko is the main problem.

Oh I agree, but bhat's is exactly why I say it would have been better off as an anime series. the problem is not that it was focusing on the original 8 and shoehorning Meiko in, it's that that everything is poorly paced and rushed. And why was it rushed? because the was only so much that can be fitted in into a 2 hour movie.
