#987193 Naruto: Alternative The Last (Doujinshi)

Posted by Chatte on 09 June 2022 - 02:45 PM

Well the story has always been pretty clear on the fact that it's pretty much the same, just turned into NaruSaku. So the only changes we're going to see are in the romance department. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same.

Funny thing is, I am a Scorpio myself and while I can obsess on subjects, I can move past them, though I sometimes have issues when my creativity goes into overdrive. But its always different strokes for different blokes.

Oh absolutely! I am talking in general terms here. But we're not just our sun sign. We're the whole astral map and it all depends on how planets are arranged in the houses of the zodiac and what aspects they form with the other signs/planets in there.

Astrology is much deeper than what they let you see in the media.

Usually the media just handles the horoscopes which is the general movement of the planets in the sky so then that's what they report.

But each person is unique in their own way because we each have a different energetic matrix at the moment we're born :)

No two people born in the same day can be the same.

Hell, not even twins are.

Honestly, I feel like Kishimoto's original editor was the real MVP keeping the story together. I could be remembering this wrong, but didn't his editor (apparently the one he had since the beginning of the series and helped him out a ton) retire around the Pain Arc and that's also when the story started falling flat? If that's all true, I feel like that may have played a much bigger role than we thought. Especially since his new editors were huge Hinata fans and pushed for her.

Yup that's Yahagi. I think that Yahagi's management with Kishi's creativity is what works best. It was the perfect combination.

Kishi isn't TOTALLY bad as a writer. He's just... how should I say? Needed guidance because he tends to goo TOO MUCH into one direction. Starts obsessing about it.

I look at this from an astrology POV (I know, weird, but hear me out).

He's a Scorpio. Scorpios can become very obsessed with a single subject and go so deep into it that they don't get out of there unless pulled out.

That's EXACTLY what happened to Kishimoto with Sasuke.

He went really deep into Sasuke's storyline. Scorpios are all about going into the deep waters of the psyche and study it, get to know most perspectives from different angles so on and so forth.

That's EXACTLY what Kishimoto did with Sasuke.

The issue is is that it's at the cost of the rest of the cast.

Not to mention that the Scorpio stereotype is the dark, broody one.

Remember how Sasuke is?

I feel that at the end of the day, he ended-up identifying more with Sasuke than Naruto. And you know why?

Probably because of the fact that he realized that the industry he so much wished to work in, wasn't like he viewed it when he first wanted to break in.

In the beginning he was the dreamy type of guy who dreamed to tell the greatest story ever told which can be transposed into Naruto's ideal.

So that's why back then Naruto was focused on more. Because Kishimot identified with him better than with Sasuke.

However as years went by and the pressure of fame grew on him and they started to pressure him more and more to do one or the other, he started identifying more with Sasuke, thus that's why his focused changed on him.

Sadly Sakura like always got left out... But I think it's because you can clearly see that the story mechanics changed as well.

In the beginning the story was built on the triad concept - teams of 3 ppl, 3 tomoe sharingan, 3 sage modes, 3 masters for the trio and yadda yadda yadda.

But then it slowly swept into the dual concept and thus it all became about Naruto and Sasuke, until it ended in Sasuke only, sadly.

Which ironically also coincides with Yahagi's involvement.

That's why I say the genius behind it all is Yahagi.

Kishi had the creative potential, but needed someone to optimize that.

That was Yahagi.

After Yahagi left, Kishi's creative potential went chaotic.

Because in essence, creativity is chaos.

That's why there's the Yin and Yang. The creative Yang who burst the energy and brings life into things, but the organizing Yin which gives a proper shape and order to it all.

Kishi lost the Yin to his Yang, sadly.

Linkara rant aside, I feel like there's a bigger issue to dig into here.

What was Naruto really about? What messages was it trying to pass on? Because on that front the work has always been a mess. Growth and maturity are thrown out the window whenever it's convenient, something we saw as far back as the beginning of the Chunin exam where even Kakashi talks about how things went back to normal after the Zabuza incident. The growth there did not stick. The idea of bonds is nonsensical considering how shallow the bond between Sasuke and Naruto actually was, and that's not even going into The Last making Naruto's most important bond the one he had with someone he never interacted with. Naruto does not learn how to lead to become Hokage, he never passes the Chunin exam that would have shown him reliable enough to shoulder more responsibility. Instead, it all becomes some social Darwinist BS where he's just soooo strong (Hell, I think the reason why so much Japanese media nowadays is calling out this might makes right mentality is because of how prevalent it used to be in shonen, with Naruto being one of the definitive examples), and he's just given power up after power up to detract from the idea of hard work beating natural talent, The truth doesn't matter either as Itachi is still left labelled a criminal, the Hyuuga family slavery is forgotten, Naruto's forgiveness isn't based on empathy but rather him seeing some aspect of himself in his enemies, he doesn't even challenge the system, and he raised a son who is in love with the idea of being Konoha's black ops doing jobs the village can not officially be tied to. And now to top it all off, he's become a crappy dad.

The story of Naruto has no real meaning, whatever messages the series could have had sold out a long time ago in order to milk it relentlessly. The series has nothing it really takes seriously, while leaving behind a slew of unfortunate implications. And when you think about what messages it might have passed on to the reader, that's a scary thought even beyond that what Hinata does is somehow considered love.

And I think that's one of the saddest aspects outside of the pairings aspect. That's one of them, sure. But it's just one of the entire plot of messages who were just thrown down the drain for the sake of money.

Fml, that's the issue: when some bunch of ppl want to make some dirty money they always throw down the drain good morals. And I'm like...? Isn't that a price too high to pay? Is it even worth for all the money in the world?

Idk man...

From the looks of it, the author is just making the story NaruSaku centered, but they aren't changing the bg story that was built the way I do for example with Kaika.

They're fixing just the relationships, not the story mechanics/bg :)

Again, funny how that DIDN’T apply to Naruto. Even regarding how they wanted it to be the The International sales Juggernaut they were hoping for, japan counted for at least 95% plus of the sales in the entire run of the franchise. I seriously think all of the Executives that LOVED Hinata heard what they wanted to hear from her overseas fanatics. They didn’t actually care how big Hinata was over seas, they just wanted to hear worshipping of her from like minded individuals I’m sure

Probably the biggest confirmation bias happened here lol

Regarding the Retsuden novel, I've seen some points being made that they are super popular outside Japan, that they have been in top for sales on Amazon and Rakuten something something so that's why it's popular and in-demand.

Now I don't know what to say because I haven't been following the topic too closely. But even so, shouldn't this amount to something towards Boruto's popularity as a franchise?

From what I'm seeing, it keeps decreasing?

The way I've seen it, it's an attempt to somehow keep the franchise afloat by catering more to SS because from what it seems the NH family doesn't sell that much.

Meh, anyway...

The Last is a disservice to all Naruto characters tho. Hell, if they wanted to go with NH they should've shown more respect to the pairing. Instead,t hey made them both look like terrible people.

Had NaruSaku become canon like that, I'd be fuming!
