Question is, was Obito going to use Rinne Tensei of his own will anyway, or did he know that Madara would have this ace up his sleeve?

 

Still, the last thought of Rin tugged on the heartstrings. Here's hoping for some Minato/Obito interaction before the end. And a Sakura/Rin parallel to go with her recent Kushina and Tsunade ones wouldn't go amiss, either.

Another parallel: Kakashi got the best out of Obito in the past, which is pretty much like what Naruto suffers from Sasuke (until later). The sad part is that Obito still loses to Kakashi, even now. Never win. Naruto will...?

The genjutsu theory turns out to be true afterall. I have to say that this death for Tobi was very unexpected. Then again, he shouldn't have lost this battle against Kakashi in the first place. I mean he used a basic C-Rank Katon ninjutsu against his opponent instead of the wide encompassing inferno that he displayed against Naruto. Surely I'm not the only who noticed that this "defeat" seemed very contrived and illogical.

That ending was very unexpected. So Tobi is actually going to die unreformed?! Kishimoto has actually managed to maintain the status of villainy for a tragic character when they die! Well, that's probably not going to be what actually occurs. I can foresee Tobi remaining alive for another chapter or so in order to use some retaliatory jutsu in his during breath so he can spite Madara. But on the off-chance that he dies without any sort of redemption whatsoever I think that Tobi can officially be branded as the most tragic character in the manga and any sympathy that Madara may have once possessed has now completely diminished.

Victimisation by Tobirama's prejudice or not these recent actions of his represent a side of Madara that corrupts his character to such an extent that he appears irredeemable. The only ones to have ever displayed such a callous disregard for their own comrade's lives are Orochimaru, Kakuzu, Hidan, and Gato. Despite what they may have done Nagato and Tobi at least had the decency to acknowledge the sacrifices of their fellow Akatsuki members.

Right now, I wouldn't be surprised if Naruto decided that he would fight for Tobi's sake as well after witnessing the heartless exploitation of this man's desperate wishes to see his loved one again at the hands of Madara.

I agree on all accounts. There's no reason Obito should have been defeated so easily. Actually, with everything he's got in his arsenal, he should have beat Kakashi quite easily. As I said before, plot. It's irksome, but expected tbh.

Yeah, Madara just seems more cruel than ever now. Obito is even more tragic than he was before. Seriously, if he dies here, without any sort of reformation... Holy kitten, dude. I never would have thought Kishi would have the balls to do that. This can't be it....

Is it me or did Rin resemble Sakura a little when Obito was thinking of her? But yeah she did it reminded me of 236'besides that Obito's life felt really bittersweet.....think about it....

Am I the only one not surprised about how obito died? This guy has been fighting non stop for a long time. I truly don't think he even had much chakra left and maybe had a smaller amount than kakashi which is why he couldn't go all out. His fight with naruto definitely ran him dry in my opinion.

 

Yet he's about to perform a life imperiling resurrection ninjutsu that emaciated a man who was a member of a clan that's famous for its enormous chakra reserves and strong vitality. The fact that he's capable of still using Space-Time ninjutsu so casually would imply that Tobi's chakra levels are still quite adequate. It shouldn't require much chakra for him to emit a few Mokuton projectiles from his arm or activate a ninjutsu absorbing barrier.

Actually, I thought so, too. That was one of the first thoughts that popped into my head when I saw that panel. Something like, "Wow. She looks beautiful. And quite a bit like Sakura..."

I agree with you about Obito's life being bittersweet. The thing he really wanted, above all else, was to see Rin again. Maybe in the upcoming chapters, Kakashi will reveal that fact to everyone, including Naruto, which will make Naruto relate to Obito because he has someone he loves that much, too (Sakura), and cementing the Sakura/Rin parallel (not that it's not already clear as say, but you know there's some people...). It'd go nicely with the recent confirmation of the Sakura/Kushina parallel and the reconfirmation of the Sakura/Tsunade parallel (for like the thousandth time lol).

This is why I liked Obito's story better than Sasuke's. He has the means for redemption, he has the means for love, and his life has been one big tragic mess. Obito lost everything in his life and lost faith in the world.

Obito, I hope you do get your redemption or at least finally get your heaven.

Like NaruSaku4Life3g and Chatte said, the situation is completely different, and Obito is Naruto's parallel, not Sakura's.

Sakura has already shown signs of moving on from Sasuke, while Obito has not (with Rin). And he doesn't really have a reason to, other than her death, of course. Her death is what caused him to pursue this dream of his. She didn't betray the village and become kitten insane and try to kill him and his friends. Sasuke did (in regards to Sakura).

I've always thought she looked like Sakura, too. There's actually a chapter in Part One where Rin shown with a hairstyle that looks a little similar to Sakura's, but I guess Kishi decided to change it.

To be fair, I think a lot of us on here thought Rin looked like Sakura. Near perfect copy if I may say so. It at times seems like it is what would Sakura be if some details changed.
