#588735 Chapter 693

Posted by chouzu_tao on 26 September 2014 - 03:58 AM

This thread has been an endless cycle... :P

Past tense/ present tense

Kishimoto's bad writing

Sakura deserves better

This fight isn't over. The manga's still going.

Why does Kishimoto keep making Sakura weep about Sasuke then?

... Can't we all just get along?

Doesn't answer the question.

Because she wants team seven back together.

Then why doesn't she learn from past encounters and take action? I thought she had matured? Why does she cry every time?

You can't get over someone so easily.

Then she still has feelings for him?

No. He's part of team seven and she wants him to be good again.

Then why does she keep crying and bringing up her feelings even if in the past? Hopeful denial? Sakura: I used to love you. Sasuke: I like you now. Sakura: I love you again.

No, she wants to be friends.

Then why is she not taking action? Her words have never reached him, why should it change now? Even Naruto who believes in Sasuke so much  and is one who is master of the talk no jutsu has decided to take action instead of lecturing and reminiscing.

Kishimoto's bad writing.

On that we can all agree.

#588163 Chapter 693

Posted by chouzu_tao on 25 September 2014 - 09:21 PM

The mangastream version has "But I still love you..."

I don't read Japanese so I don't know if this is just a mistranslation. If I'm not mistaken, more people often consider mangastream a little more accurate since they take more time.

Regardless of mistranslation, my anger is not with Sakura (since she's just a character on a page, slave to the whims of a writer). My anger is with Kishimoto. Regardless of how realistic Sakura's attachments to Sasuke is (love or not), it is just terrible writing to have a character do the same thing over and over again. It's not just bad writing for a female character, it's bad writing, period. We've seen Sakura crying over Sasuke too many times, we've seen her not being able to take part in fighting him too many times, we've seen her trying to convince Sasuke based on the logic of their past instead of just giving him tough love in the present over his actions too many times. For god's sake stop bringing us to this same moment over and over again Kishi. Kishimoto, WRITE SOMETHING NEW!!!! Let characters EVOLVE!

With that being said, there is an argument that could be made to say that Kishi is trying to hammer fans over the head with how devoted she is to Sasuke. I'm not going to get into that because that's a whole other bag of reasons why his writing needs work.

As far as SS being dead, no it's still not. If you go by "abusive boyfriend" logic, this could still happen based on those ideas. If SS holds true, it will be because Sakura has classic symptoms of a girlfriend in denial of her abusive relationship. Sasuke could still actually care about her despite his attempts on her life because even though a boyfriend in a "bad touch" type of relationship is abusive, in their warped minds they feel they care about the girlfriend. So no, SS is not dead. Also, Sasuke has never answered Sakura's feelings directly. Always waiting until she's fainted first. He's never directly said I don't feel the same way. He's never said to her what he explained to Kakashi. And because it was not to her, it can only be taken at face value.

(Not bashing Sakura. Bashing Kishimoto's writing.) I'm just upset that Kishimoto has not allowed for Sakura to become a more developed character, who can still care about someone without crying and becoming weak. Women are not beings who cannot control their emotions or tough it out when confronted with bad things. They can dig into reserves and take action while still feeling a lot. She (or a more interestingly written Sakura) must have learned that crying when you confront Sasuke is not going to do a damn thing! Action is what matters to him. Because in his mind it is the action of others that control his actions. Words alone will not reach him or sway him from his path. I assumed she learned that because I had faith in her as a character. But she has learned nothing!

We all prefer NS to SS, for whatever reason (it'll probably end like most mangas anyway where major character coupling is not addressed in the least at the end). Maybe if Naruto and Sakura were our friends we'd want them to get together. Maybe it's the type of relationship we see ourselves being happy with or maybe we are vicariously living through these characters in a literary fantasy. No matter what I'm not going to hold my breath for NS to happen. Kishi is clearly trying to beat us over the head with SS. -- it's the only explanation for this repeating endless cycle of her crying when trying to persuade Sasuke and being weaker in those moments then I know she is. Naruto seems to be fine with it. And Kishimoto will not let Sakura grow, because in his mind characters who will not let go of any goal no matter how poisonous it may be to themselves or those around them is a sign of strength. Maybe this is what he meant by "Sakura is going to become more of a hero." Unfortunately her main goal according to Kishimoto has nothing to do with herself and the ninja world. It is all tied to Sasuke.

Kishimoto has always shown himself to be very one-track minded as a writer. If you think about it on a somewhat general level, Sasuke is the only character with any significant change as a character since the first part started. My biggest issue is that we've been here a few times before already. I understand that he's always intended it to be Naruto vs Sasuke one-on-one, but why couldn't Sakura be given a better way out?

#583090 Final Fantasy XV Teaser? Trailer is out!

Posted by chouzu_tao on 18 September 2014 - 03:08 AM

It's beeaaaauuuutiful! Other than the eyes, which they've trimmed back on size a little, it looks like real people. But that's always been a truth about Enix games. It's just so much more so.

The combat system looks like it'll be more real time like Kingdom Hearts. Can't say I'll mind too much.

There are definitely a lot of questions generated. Luna...

I will say this: they fight with weapons that appear out of nowhere. There are giant turtles, I assume and hope there's a summoning system, but they drive around in a regular car... It doesn't morph or float or turn into a giant Alexander. Kind of blaaaah. But everything else in the trailer. I'm excited!

Just re-read it again. A quick thought. What if he -> 493px-Hagoromo_full.png is actually like --> he? the-architect-353x250.jpg

What a twist!

I mean... "Congratulations on saving the world." ? Could Kishi go this somewhat douchey route?

I mean it's ridiculous but it's plausible. He asked Sasuke and Naruto to re-seal Kaguya. What if that as-large-as-the-moon thing is a new Earth, and Hagoromo is ready to reset things? ... .... ... ... For what purpose, I haven't a guess yet, but I mean originally everyone thought he created everything.... Thoughts? Anyone else able to connect some dots to this theory?

#537008 legend of korra book 3 trailer

Posted by chouzu_tao on 11 June 2014 - 03:18 PM

Thanks coolcatjas, I don't use it enough nowadays so yeah I have my moments where I'm like, ummmmm. Oh and Chouzu they say uncle because Korra's dad is next to Zuko.

Ultimate face-palm powers activate! :P

It's not like being in love makes one weak, I think narusaku ship proves how much fighting for the one that is important to you can give power ups, heck, the same think happened to Korra, she unleashed her wind power to save Mako...much like Naruto being able to summon in order to protect Sakura, or Aang unleashing his avatar state due to Katara being in danger that one time in book 2...

Nope, I refuse to stop shipping this. >:|

Asami, I can agree with, she isn't as close to him anyway, by the end of book 1, and how he ignored her because He had to be by Korra's side, not to mention that rushed love confession from him at the end of book 1..nah, this pairing war isn't over. Not by a long shot.

I just hope the creators get their act together, and work with what has been developed...if not this arc, ...then the next one, there is one more right?

They can't ignore it, it leaves glaring plot-holes... :/

I didn't say it made them weak. I'm saying I want them to now show that they can be strong without the relationship. What I'm saying is that, at the moment, there's nothing beneficial plot-wise that can come from them continuing the love triangle. All that can come is a soap opera, because unlike NaruSaku, the two girls have very clearly dated Mako. There isn't anything left it can add story-wise or plot-wise with the show, unless one of them turns out to be evil or they date and someone cheats on someone again. So it's either, 'you hurt my feelings' or 'oh no _______ (insert one of the triangle pieces) has been caught and needs to be saved'. Boooooring.

From what I interpret from your post, you explain that there isn't much left between Asami and Mako. If there isn't much left, there isn't much left of the third point in the triangle, and if there isn't a third point, there's no triangle, only Korra and Mako. And again, they can care for one another, as exes also can still do, without giving any specific focus to this in the new season. There's nothing wrong with your continued shipping. I'm just saying the triangle has been explored and there's nothing new to bring to the story for the show.

I think he said "occidental" meaning western, so western tomb. "You'll enjoy this. We need to check a secret ice prison in the western tomb."
Your Spanish is really good though  :D

And I cant wait for the 3rd book~ So excited especially since we get to see Zuko againnnn

Lord Zuko, uncle, this is quite a surprise.

Finally something interesting happens. Governing the tribe is boring.

You'll enjoy this news, we need to revise a secret ice prison in the tomb of..

I can't make out what he says at the end it sounds like oximental. I have no idea if that's a certain location in the story or if it does actually mean something in Spanish. Sorry I gave it my best shot ^^' but Spanish isnt my first language.

Thanks ladies!

Uncle? Is this some sort of sign of respect or is he actually their uncle? Is that common knowledge and I just missed it?

#536544 legend of korra book 3 trailer

Posted by chouzu_tao on 10 June 2014 - 09:41 PM

So long love triangle is out of the way, I'll be just fine.

I second this.

I hope they do resolve the love triangle, they can't just leave it like it is....Makorra has a lot to still resolve....I. I the only one who doesn't want that development to go to waste? :(

(I used to dislike that ship to..lol..guess it grew on me...)

Oh well, guess they can't help it, they care more about what the fans think sadly, and all the complaints must have bothered them. It's a shame, sometimes it's best to just ignore the fans and write a good story.

All right, I'll stop talking about my shipping hopes now... xD

I don't agree. I think they did a pretty good job of showing that yeah, they care about one another but Korra and Mako are going to just be friends, and while yeah, Asami did kiss Mako, it's really just falling into old habbits. This happens a lot with people who are exes. I don't think the relationships like this between the characters have anything to add to the show anymore. I want Korra to stand strong on her own and I want Asami to as well.

Also, I saw this online.

Can anyone translate?

#532378 Doctor Who

Posted by chouzu_tao on 27 May 2014 - 08:54 PM

Woah... completely missed this rant.

Rant.

I'm confused by this rant. How can something be super-campy and super-serious?

I will say I disagree with the overacting and how his Doctor seemed to not take anything seriously, but that's your opinion and I respect that (no sarcasm or bitterness intended, but you never know how these things can come across online).

It is true that Matt's Doctor is very silly and with the material he is given, it would be extremely easy to slip into "over-acting". His Doctor is verbose, energetic, and sporadic, but that is his copping mechanism for dealing with the things in his past, the people he's lost, and the attitude that he would always try to be a forward thinker, living in his present conditions while calculating for future issues. He's a man who's mind is operating on a much faster level then ours, it's just that at times this Doctor lets it run away from him.

I feel like scenes like this...

...are done well and are understated, which the scenes need to be.

There's a scene in the 6th season of the new series where River, Amy, and Rory see the Doctor die. They keep this information from him while traveling to a time to figure out who is behind it. The Doctor senses this and plays along for a bit trying to get information. When he's read all the cryptic signs he can, he calls them out, switching from the goofy loquacious man to a short and dangerous one who demands answers. All the Doctors have these sides to them. They are humorous and eccentric but can turn on a dime when crossed.

I don't think Matt's Doctor is so huge a departure from other Doctors in the past. He's just this generation's representation of the things Doctor Who has represented in the past while bringing his own things to the table. Many of the Doctors had a weirdness to them and a sense of humor that often annoyed whoever was the straight-man around them. Look at Brigadier. He played the straight-man to a couple Doctors. They all ramble to some degree.

Silly/ Rambly Doctor:

The First More professorly Doctor

The Second, who Matt loved, was an infamous clown. <-- this would have been considered a departure too then

The Third, was a return to a more serious time, more spy-action thriller/ james bondie.

Fourth Doctor examples in this one:

Also, see his introduction. That ramble, with more to come...

He was also famously quoted as saying, "What's the point of growing up if you can't be childish sometimes?"

The Fifth: Celery. <-- not as familiar with this one

The Sixth Return to a more petulant Doctor, but this is definitely where production issues start coming into play as the production studio wrestles with what the Doctor should be.

The Seventh, Sylvester McCoy loved humor, and tried to include physical humor where he could. Yes it took a darker turn, but this series was rife with re-writes and behind the scenes inconsistencies due to some of the studio heads not really like Doctor Who.

The Eighth Silly, even after his amnesia.

Moody Doctors:

First/ Third/ Fourth/ Sixth/ Seventh (though he's more calculating with his actions)

I'm also confused by your other statement.

Rant.

I think here you say that Doctor Who itself is now only silly fan-fiction. I guess I'm curious what your definition of fan-fiction is. To me fan-fiction is basically a fan's take on the universe that includes what rules they need to make the story mold to what they think the Whoverse should be, retconning/ reshaping what they need to to make things fit their story ideas. But below, I think you say that you want them to open dialogue to fans like you, to mold it to what you think the Whoverse should be.

Rant.

I mean, I think Doctor Who is being written by fans of the show from previous incarnations. Obviously Steven is one, and I believe Mark is one as well. So in a way, it is fan-fiction, but that can probably be said of many of the writers of previous Doctors.

I also was wondering what you mean by commercialized, tumblr/tween orientated. Do you mean they cater everything to teens for the ratings? I mean... That's TV. From it's earliest incarnation I believe the show has most often drawn younger audiences. I think in one of the interviews, the cast and writers were asked what was different from US and UK fans, and they said the fans in the US skew a little bit older. That aside, show me a television show that has never had a specific demographic they targeted going into production that didn't fight tooth and nail to hold onto once they had it, and I'll show you an art house movie that says they don't even need an audience. That being said, I still find there are things in the show for all ages. I don't think that everything they do is from the suggestion of fans, and while I don't think there's anything wrong with collecting a paycheck, I think it would be insulting for anyone to suggest that they have no artistic pride in what they do, should anyone suggest that.

That teaser is not enough! Dang it why can't be back in spring like it was for Russel's era.

I wasn't here for the Russell era, but did having the show premiere in the spring create a small break between the first and second half of the show? I know that's something Moffat wants to avoid this time with it starting in fall.

Also, this statement...

Kamina-Yoshi, on 30 Nov 2013 - 11:20 PM, said:snapback.png

Reading from the synposis and people's talk about the 50th Anniversary, I'm about ready to say that Doctor Who is dead. It's just dead; it's idiotic, it's fan-fiction level lunacy.

makes it seem like you wrote off the 50th Anniversary special as fan-fiction lunacy, without ever even seeing it for yourself.

I'm working my way through the older series and I like both the new stuff and old stuff. There are things that I like and don't like that I see along both series. I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from. To me I think one of the reasons why the show has endured and ultimately the show's appeal itself is that it recreates itself and can usually find a new audience while keeping the much of the older one -- that there isn't one definitive formula for the Doctor's success.

#531537 On a scale of 1-10 rate the last movie you watched

Posted by chouzu_tao on 23 May 2014 - 06:12 AM

X-men Days of Future Past

Good acting all around, I mean, much of the cast have been around the blocks a few times so they are quite familiar with the characters and handle them with the utmost respect. Most of the new characters are relegated to primarily fighting roles, with the exception of Evan Peters as Quicksilver. He's just like all other speedsters: quick-witted and hyper. I liked him. I wonder how Aaron Johnson-Taylor will do in Avengers. One of the biggest complaints I can see people having is that Wolverine is placed in a prominent role again. In this film he travels back in time to try and prevent something from causing the bleak future for all of mankind, whereas in the comics it's Shadowcat. While Ellen Paige is a recognized actress, she and her character are not on the same level as Jackman/Wolverine. And honestly, while he's the catalyst for the events, the central characters are Xavier, Magneto, and Mystique, and they all do great work here. So that change didn't bug me so much.

Oof! The future beat-down of the mutants by the Sentinels: you definitely feel for them even more than you already do just knowing they're part of the last group of mutants.

Good soundtrack. Nice cinematography and story telling.

There is a part that may confuse fans about the ending (not after credits, that's pretty clear what that's about).

Ending

8/10

We are being spoiled this summer. Like truly. I think this may be the most saturated, but thus far, most satisfying summer blockbuster season so far. I loved "Captain America the Winter Soldier," enjoyed "Amazing Spider-man 2," liked "Godzilla," and liked this movie too. I hope "All You Need is Di"...er... "Edge of Tomorrow" is good (I'll be honest, Cruise usually doesn't do badly during summer season films), "How to Train Your Dragon 2" is fun, "Transformers" is tolerable enough to be fun, "Guardians of the Galaxy" blows it out of the water, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is a pleasant surprise, and that the "Expendables 3" is as stupidly enjoyable as the other two entries.

#531261 Who's your favorite Doctor incarnation?

Posted by chouzu_tao on 21 May 2014 - 10:04 PM

Yeah but its good it shows how dark the Doctor can be, hell season 8 is going to be dark I hear.

Oh! I wasn't trying to say that him being dark was a negative. Some of the best moments in Doctor Who are darker moments that deal with grey areas.

You mean this?

1ffdb142b141.png

:th_yeah:

No wonder Sakura exchanged smiles with him :lmao:

:fan:

Sigh. This is a fact. We often want what we can't have. That's why the game of playing hard to get came about. Sasuke was an important part of her past and an important friend now, and that means it will never be easy to just say "done". If you say you care about someone, romantic intentions or not, and they don't seem to care about you, it hurts all the more, and you desire their attention more. Suck. But it makes sense.

I wish Sakura was more than just a damsel in distress/ sacrificer. She deserves to be more, especially with all the WTF power ups some characters (not just Sasuke) get in the manga, why can't she be on par with the boys?

Kakashi should've left with Gaara... does that mean desu #2 for him?
