Sadly, Sakura was kneecapped way sooner than that. Some speculation could be leading up to the war is when it begins

I have to disagree because it is far worse than that.

So when the story first started Hinata had a crush on Naruto, but she also had her own story between herself, Neji, and her family/clan. It was the only reason for the fight between her and Neji in part and why Naruto made a nindo to prove Neji wrong.

They ABANDONED this story aspect for the sake of Hinata's love obsesesion. So she really didn't start one dimensional...they turned her into a one dimensional character by removing the only other thing that had meaning in her life. Her family. They tried to incorporate it in The Last, but Hinata gave NO Fs for any of her family members. She literally said so herself that she is selfish because she cared more about Naruto and the blasted scarf than her own sister.

THAT is the ultimate garbage take. That is the most pathetic reality. Her only defining trait is her love for Naruto...everything else was abandoned ON PURPOSE. 

I love Sakura. She is one of my favorite heroines, but the moment they abandoned everything good about her for this...boy obsession....that is the greatest insult they have ever done and here they did it to their favorite character too. Which means it was not about Hinata...it was not about Naruto either...it was about the affair itself. The IDEA of NaruHina...not NaruHina itself. 

Imagine be that is real life. Imagine you love someone not because of the real version of them, but your idealistic version of him. I am starting to believe this is why many young people are in horrible relationships. They are in love with the idea...not the person themselves.

 

What's the most insulting part of that is that the so called fans of that couple treat it as a good thing. In fact it is like that all the time in pairing debates and whom is a better couple with whom in fiction. Fans are ALWAYS "in love with the idea of the couple" rather than any chemistry or development the couples go through. What's also absolutely insulting is the double standards of Hinata fans when they hate on Sakura. In fact, show them anything of Hinata showing any behavior REMOTELY similar to the same traits Sakura has in which they denounce Naruto and Sakura's potential romance and call the relationship abusive, and they sing Hinata praises as a strong independent woman. i.e. that one Boruto episode where Hinata threw Naruto and Boruto out of the house because their bickering was disturbing Himawari when she was sick. Sakura does that? she's a heartless, horrible, abusive ball buster, quote unquote.

 

Naruto says again and again that he likes Sakura and other characters confirm it or state that he likes Sakura? Sakura confesses to him? "The characters and Kishimoto don't know what they're talking about, and Sakura was lying"

 

Naruto walks within 12 feet of Hinata? Sasuke verbally abuses Sakura? "IT'S TRUE ROMANCE!!! KISHIMOTO IS A GENIUS I TELL YOU!!!"

 

And I can never say this enough, any fan that was not a NaruHina supporter in the first place was apparently in an attempted gaslighting to get them to believe this baloney. Any non-NaruHina shipper read the manga wrong, the authorities of the franchise said. That and among other reasons, including the ones that I stated above are why I don't even bother with the series anymore
