If anything, it could also be that and just a simple case of Isshiki not wanting to be tied down by his family. Calling off the arranged marriage was his way of refusing his family's wishes. Alternatively, he didn't have a problem with the marriage itself, but his desire to break free from his family outweighed that. He also probably thought this was better for both of them and didn't want to pressure her into it.

A desire to break free from an overbearing over-demanding family could explain why he likes to just wear an apron or a speedo around the dorm.

So that was the link between Isshiki and Nene, So my wild speculation wasn't right but at the same time I wouldn't say I'm completely wrong, I do think Nene liked Isshiki but him unwilling to take thing seriously pissed her off, and she very likely felt that he wasn't taking her seriously.

 

So I wonder if that makes him this generation Jouchirou? He has the talent to be much higher ranked than he is, but because of the pressure put on him he uses his quirks to keep everyone at a distance and escape from the expectations others have put on....now I can't help wonder if Isshiki had met Jourichou in the past or if he did his research on Saiba and that led him to the Polar Star, his defense mechanism and him ending up at the same dorm sounds like a bit too much to be a coincidence...Also come to think of, I never realised how strange it was that he is the only member of the dorm to be a second year, the rest are all first years, then again it was implied there were other member in the dorm so I never thought much of it, I'm guessing it's something that they dropped.

As for him ending up in the dorms, if he got kicked out of the house prior to entering the school, he might have been hopping from one place to another like Jouichiro did, and may have came across Senzaemon. After that, the old man enrolled him into school.

True it is a possibility that Senzaemon saw bits of Jouchirou and Erina in him and thought to put him in Star Dorm in hopes it would help him, and maybe thought he'd be able to help Erina as well.

 

Isski did know about Jouchirou when he came to visit the dorm, and not just about him being the former number 2 seat but about his exploits between him leaving the school and when he most likely met Souma's mother and settled down, disappearing from the cooking work.

 

Ofcourse i'm sure there is more to the story, him getting kicked out from his house is a strange one, from Nene's flashback he is a Jouchirou level genius, and is capable of reaching the same levels as those who have practiced the art for years, an early example was him going head to head with Megumi in table tennis, who was touted at a potential future star of the sport. So I wonder if he had the same level breakdown as Jourchirou, or something similar. I guess there are plenty of potential reasons, shouldn't think too much into it, otherwise will probably be disappointed when the truth is revealed.

 

Edit: It looks like it is a individual elimination round, so Souma has to win, though it does look like you are not restricted to one battle, however still think team naked apron has put themselves at a disadvantage by sending their strongest members out first.

Well it WILL happen of course because it'd a pretty big let down to have the MC lose the first round for such an important match though many would like to see that. An I'm assuming Satoshi X Nene would potentially be a thing in the future XD

True, but Souma knows what the Udon loving general public actually enjoys, where Nene seems to be more about the tradition of making the dish, it's in many ways the difference in philosophy between Azami and the Rebels, one side is going by set rules passing on the skills of previous generations, where the Rebels are about constantly evolving, and always improving to satisfy your customers.

 

Besides poor Souma's already dropped to 4th in popularity, another loss and he'll be out of the top ten next year.

Ok Souma and Nene food is done so next week presenting Nene and it amazing the judges. Then Next week  Souma presents his dish and blows away the judges. Then next week Souma wins. Or am I underestimating how long they will make those cliffhangers go on for?

Whenever the judge arrive they always looks high and mighty, evil looking like a corrupt government ... but usually once they start tasting they turn into 10 years old kid or girl after reach climax begging for more. @Bail o Lies > who knows maybe the judges won't taste Souma food because his restaurant / name not in that WGO book and he doesn't have or own star restaurant ...

I'm pretty sure it will at least take three weeks to get through his bit but one can hope.

 

They stated in this chapter that they will taste all dishes equally and judge them on their own merit. That their organization is the highest most respected food judges in the world and that they will not sully their reputation in anyway.

I am guessing this WGO is the manga's non-copyright infringing version of the Michelin book. I do wonder if this manga was western how much trouble it would get into for it's portrayal of different cultural stereotypes.

 

I wonder how this judges would react if she found out the restaurant she mocked is owned by a chef that probably helped many of the Restaurants in the book achieve their stars.

 

Honestly will be happy when this arc is over, I'm really getting tired of seeing the same 'underestimating the MC' over and over again, it's not even this manga's fault, I got tired of it, years ago in Naruto, this chapter just turned the whole dial to 10, it's ridiculous, specially the crowd, most of these sheep were already defeated by the Yukihara style. it's just an annoyance to read.

 

Unfortunately I expect this arc is going to be really long, we still haven't gotten past the first test, we still have the other two to be judged, and then after that we have the 'with the exception of maybe Erina' losses from team Souma. and then the battle with Souma and whoever is left over as the finale.

 

On a side note, I just realised this but why are the expelled students still wearing their school uniforms? They have been expelled for a months now, are we really to beleive they have been walking around in their school uniforms all this time?

Most likely remember that central ideals is based on idolization of him, and Gin who was consider the greatest student to ever come out of the greatest cooking academy in the world is only a far second compared to him.

The Girl who leapt through time reference was cool, other than that not really that surprising, though I felt like shouting at the Judges for gorging themselves on one dish so much, they are meant to judge the dish by tasting them, but not fill their stomachs up, that they wold struggle with other dishes and mark them down just because they are too full.

 

Ofcourse then I remembered this was Manga and they can gorge themselves on multiple dishes and it is all fine. With the middle judges obsession with the knock-off Michelin gourmet guide, I wonder if she'll pick up on certain styles from Restaurants that Jouchirou had worked at?

 

It's odd but because the foodgasm was relatively tame in comparison to past reactions, it almost felt like Nene's dish was a disappointment, they've been so outlandish in the last, this one felt lackluster, though this could just be the less adult tone the manga has taken recently.

Another cliffhanger, just announce the bloody winner already, atleast we were shown a history of how Souma came up with his idea for Soba, and it wasn't just something he made up on the spot, instead something he'd been perfecting over years.

 

These foodgasms are really mild compared to past scenes, it's making the dishes appear like they are not as spectacular as previous dishes, though that said it was Soba noodles so it would have been difficult to make them appear more glamorous.

Or maybe it is the implication the judges are used to gourmet so even super deliscious dishes don't impact them much well IDK really
