Naruto 444!

As for Nagato's story, while I admit it is painful, I think Naruto has as great or a greater understanding of what True pain is. I'm interested to see what happens when Naruto has already experienced such great pain. I'm also interested to see Konan's reaction in all of this. I find myself thinking that she's much more devoted to Nagato than to Akatsuki itself.
Not too much to say about this chapter, but I'm excited to see the next one.

That would be the MOST epic explanation for Iruka's scar ever! >< I think it would add so much more depth to his character. Alas, I don't think that Iruka was old enough to be in that war.

Now, HOLD ON. Where did you guys see Iruka in the flashbacks? *rereads chapter* I hardly didn't see him...
EDIT: NVM, you were referring to the nin whom apologizing for the incident.

Exactly. It left me cold. His parents deaths were accidental, not the result of a heartless slaughter like what he's done more than once. Yahiko's death better be a really horrific or I'm still going to have zero sympathy for him. He's a heartless slaughterer who thinks his actions are good, just and the will of God, and he's that God. That's a monster equal to or worse than Osama bin Laden.
And Nagato's age, nah he's older than Shikaku (Shikamaru's dad) Look at how young Jiraiya looks when he spent those three years with Konan, Yahiko, and Nagato. He looks younger than he did when he taught Minato as a Genin. Jiraiya spent the three years with them before he taught Minato. (probably from 18-21 years old, when he leaves he's looking closer to the age he was in the team picture with Minato as a Genin. And if Minato is roughly the same age as Shikaku that would work out perfectly, Jiraiya would have been 21 when he started teaching the 10 year old Minato. I believe the third databook doesn't give an age for Konan, etc... but says they were about 10 years old when they met Jiraiya- that would make Konan and Nagato three years older than Shikaku, Inoichi and Chozu) Nagato and Konan are in their 40's, probably around the same age as Hisashi Hyuuga. Yahiko's body is younger looking because he died.
Iruka wouldn't have even been born when Nagato was a kid. Iruka was still an Academy student when Konoha was attacked by the Kyuubi. Maybe it could have been Iruka's father though. That would be an interesting irony.

When the Leaf ninja investigate, Nagato knocks over an object (I think it's a cup, but it might be a vase.), causing it to break on the ground, allerting the Leaf ninja to their presence. His father immediately CHARGES AT THE NINJA.
In other words, Nagato murdered Jiraiya, destroyed the Hidden Leaf Village, shishkafrogged Fukusaku, and stabbed Hinata right in front of Naruto... because his clumsiness got his parents killed. Parents who weren't smart enough to realize that CIVILIAN != NINJA.
GAH!

Nagato doesn't hate Konoha for accidentally killing his parents. Heck, he made friends with the first muderee you mentioned right after the events of this chapter. Nagato would be a hypocrite if he hated Konoha just because his parents were killed. He's looking at the big picture and sees that many people in Hidden Rain have suffered because Konoha has waged war there for their own benefit. No matter how you look at it, Nagato's parents died because Konoha was at war, but he's just one of the victims.
And to all those saying they feel no sympathy for Nagato...really? His parents were killed in front of him. Whether it was an accident or not doesn't make it hurt any less you know. It just doesn't give him someone to be pissed at as much as if it was done in cold blood, and when he met Jiraiya afterwards he wasn't angry at anybody, only depressed.

exactly i feel almost the same, the only difference is i feel that he is taking this particular instance a little to hard and the next one will be EXTREMLY more horrific, you can tell simply with that he starts with this and knowing anyone at least from a storytellers standpoint, you tell the lesser things first usually for a set up or warm up as for what's to come. i feel it's going to be something with Yahiko but i could be wrong, knowing Pain, he always seems to stump people. but i think if he only had this incident and he still came out the way he is now i would be like how everyone else is it just isn't enough to turn into Pain and would feel for him, but i understand why he would still want to change the world. damn it's hard to make sense DAMN YOU KISHIMOTO FOR MAKING THIS A TOUCHY CHAPTER!!!!
"People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "reality". But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? Merely vague concepts...their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?" -Itachi Uchiha

Kishimoto doesn't draw ninja characters in their 40's looking any older than ninja in their 30's . For many people in real life their looks don't change much between 30- and later 40's. Jiraiya's appearance doesn't change from his thirties until he passes 50. When Naruto meets Jiraiya he still looks the same age as he did in when Kushina was pregnant with Naruto. Tsume looks the same age in her face in Kiba's flashback, when he was a Academy student and she would have been in her early thirties, as she does now at 40. Kishimoto doesn't make ninja characters look older until they pass 50. Jiraiya didn't start looking older than he did in his 30's until part 2 of the manga, when he was going into his mid 50's.

That's a good interpretation, I agree - except I think it was more Jiraiya's decision in general, which he cemented just before he died, to entrust everything to Naruto ie. trust him to find this elusive answer (I'm really intrigued - does Kishimoto know how to bring about world peace?!)
