- A leaked Toys R Us ad obtained by Kotaku shows Nintendo is taking $50 off the current Wii console price point, bringing the system down to $199.

The ad is expected to hit at the end of September.

Nintendo wouldn't confirm the validity of this ad to IGN, saying the company doesn't comment on rumor or speculation. Calls made to Toys R Us have yet to be returned.

Looks like it's gonna happen after all, assuming this is for real. Somehow, I'm really not surprised that they're going back on that price cut statement, Wii really needs the cut.

Who along with their grandmother doesn't already own a Wii?

Serious note, to be expected. This generation has hit its half way mark.

*Raises hand*

Proud owner of a PS360.

I expect the 10 year life cycle Sony tells me about, and I rarely touch my 360... I have RRODitis.

Its only worked out great for sony so far because they had a bunch of potential customers in the people who were still sticking to PS2. However, we the consumers benefit greatly from it overall with nintendo and microsoft following suit. But I wish they'd drop the price on the wii another $50. The library is pretty weak if you aren't in love with wii sports and the thosuands of games like it.

A fifty dollar price cut still doesn't make the Wii worth it. I haven't touched mine in so many months now that it has to be getting close to a year. There's just not enough worth playing; Nintendo blew their wad in regards to first party titles early and the system's gotten shoddy third party support. Not that Wii owners even buy the good third party Wii games that ARE released.

I should have just saved up or waited for the price cut for the PS3 instead of going with the other two systems.

The disc drive is shot on mine. I had to stop using it weeks ago just to avoid the real possibility it would start scratching my brand new games.

*grumble grumble*

Actually, it's worked out well for Sony because there have been tons of people waiting for this price drop. Despite what people love to claim, the system wasn't selling that bad to begin with. Now it's selling even better.

Dontcha love Moore's law?! Love it!

And the Wii is getting somewhat more of a decent buy with "survival horror" games making an appearance in the nintendo industry for the wii. Those games were made for that console.

Sony's PS3 has its issues, just like the Xbox360. They're both rather good consoles.

RROD vs "yellow light" issue

Also, sony's costumer service is rather horrible too from both my experience and things I've read on the web. http://www.ripten.co...r-ps3-warranty/

Edit : Sounded like a jerk when I didn't mean to ;/

I don't expect them to be "exclusive" for long. Once the motion controller for the PS3 hits, chances are high a lot of third party Wii games - generally the good ones - are going to be ported over. Especially the ones that went absolutely nowhere on the Wii, despite being solid and enjoyable.

Also, aside from the Resident Evil rail shooter, I don't expect the survival horror games to do all that well. Third party games - especially the M rated variety - have been doing poorly in sales on Nintendo consoles. Absolutely nothing seems to sell on that console not packed in with the system itself or packed in with a peripheral or attachment.

Never said it didn't. Most consoles do. But no console has ever had the number of issues the 360 has. I'm not even sure any piece of consumer electronics has had as many problems as the 360. All because it was rushed out the door for a year lead on the competition.

Actually Wii does have some pretty good games coming out: up to 4 player Co-Op New Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming out this holiday, Metroid Prime: The Other M out by next years holiday season, Resident Evil: Dark Chronicles, and a Zelda Twilight Princess sequel by next years end. Although I agree that Wii's success is based on first party games. Third party games like Naruto and Bleach can help the Wii survive.

Natal's motion controller for the 360 will be the real break through in motion, since you actually use your own body projected through a feed back camera/recorder to create motion in the game rather than a sensored PS3 wand or Wii remote controller. (Street Fighter 5 with Natal's body motion would be epic wow.png)

I'd honestly tell my brother-in-law to break out his Wii if it wasn't for the fact that half the games are shovelware, and half are just sequel after sequel of Mario, Metroid or Zelda.

I enjoyed Twilight Princess, but the constant lack of new titles annoy me. Shovelware makes up for a lot of Wii sales, even if you hate me for saying it, it's posted all over the world. The only Wii titles my brother-in-law owns are TP, Brawl, Red Steel, Wii Sports and CoD 3.

Resident Evil doesn't seem too bad for Wii (Darkside Chronicles and Umbrella Chronicles), but other than that, lack of third-party support and horrendous titles is just ugh.

That's a result of Wii owners not buying those type of games. Games like Madworld and No More Heroes cant even push a million despite the Wii's huge install base because the market isnt there for those type of games. Make a game about skiing or ping pong and it will sell quick. Publishers & developers care about $$$, so they're not gonna bother making something that won't profit.

Precisely why the Wii sold great for the casual family, but when it comes to hardcore gamers it just dies down. Casual fanbase high, hardcore extremely low.

That's where the 360 and PS3 make their money.

When you think about it though that has always been Nintendo's goal to appeal to the casual gamers and kids. Theirs been talk that the next console Nintendo has will be similar to the PS3 and Xbox 360 but I don't think Nintendo will be able to attract the hardcore gamers like Sony and Microsoft will continue to do.

I did sell my old gamecube copy of RE4 and got the ultimate version offered for the Wii (able to play the whole game through Ada's point of view and alot of extra bonus content. happy.gif )

With no online multiplayer. Which means unless you've got four friends and four remote and control stick combinations, your SOL. This is horribly, horribly dated in this day and age and neuters what should have been a great feature.

Not to mention it's New Super Mario on the Wii; I wasn't too impressed with the DS game, so with the co-op neutered I'm not exactly in a lather.

QUOTE
Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming out this holiday

I'll end up buying it, but I'll be honest; I'm not as excited about this as I should be another Mario game. It's basically the last game with Yoshi. More of the same is usually fine (I buy enough sequels to attest to that), but I expected something else from Mario. This is the first time that I can remember where the main series basically just piggybacked the last game; the main series usually carries innovation in each title. Something new. It generally HAS to or the series would have gone downhill a long time ago; it doesn't exactly have much in the way of story or anything else to fall back on.

QUOTE
Metroid Prime: The Other M out by next years holiday season

I'm very excited about this game, but as you've mentioned it's going to be a while before it comes out; in the meantime the pickings are slim.

QUOTE
a Zelda Twilight Princess sequel by next years end

Another "next year" game.

QUOTE

Umbrella Chronicles was good, but it had it's issues. Which I hear got a bit worse in the Darkside Chronicles builds so far. It's sad, but Umbrella Chronicles is one of the only third party titles that sold decently.

Also, as mentioned, the third parties don't bother with the system because there's no money to be made. Fanboys whined that there weren't any M rated games for the system and if there were the hardcore games the hardcores would buy them and prove the systems not a waste. Then they got egg on their face, because those M rated titles came and sold like fried garbage.

I can't blame the third parties anymore, because this generations has just proven that the market for the non-kiddy or shovelware games simply isn't there.

This will probably be the last Nintendo system I ever buy within the first four years of it's lifecycle. Next go around I'll end up getting it like I did the Gamecube; when it costs a pittance and there are actually a decent number of good games to pick up on the cheap.

It's a nearsighted goal. These people may buy the system, but they don't buy the games. They pay the ticket to get in but then they don't buy anything once inside. And then they leave and don't look back.

The casuals are horrifyingly fickle.

Also, I'm not sure they'll be able to get the hardcore crowd next go around either. They've pissed off a lot of their core fanbase and people who came in expecting a revolution in gaming. That's a bad taste that might well end up sticking.

Since the console is called "Wii"(bringing together people to play) they might as well go all out making Super Mario Galaxy 2 true co-op and the Twilight Princess sequal have true Co-Op wow.png I can only image how much the sales of the Wii would increase if they done that but yeah dl316bh your right about them lacking online game play set-up like Xbox live and Playstation Network.

Sony just said that the price of the Wii has been lowered to $199 starting on the 27th. This is coming from Kaz Hirai's mouth, so I guess he has been notified by his competitors?

I sold my Wii because I play my PS3 most of the time, and I beat most of the games I did like on the wii already. And since they're doing a price cut, if I ever want ti again, Illl get it cheaper now. But im pretty much done with most things nintendo.
