I've found that the REALLY good anime are actually the ones that only last for like 25 episodes or so. Just last night I watched an anime called "Gargantia" and watched all 13 episodes in one sitting. It seems the space battle anime are what catch my attention more than anything else...

I didn't continue watching Gargantia But I know how it ends and actually I like it and regret it. The main reason why is at that time, I was really in to Gen Urobutchi's anime. And after Psycho-Pass, Gargantia was Butcher's next project.
Btw, his nickname is Butcher because he liked to kill his character.

Try One Punch Man and Overlord.
One Punch Man is the ultimate superhero anime.
Overlord is kind of Sword Art Online, but actually far better in terms of plot.

mirai nikki, season two might be released (? not sure)
it's practically a hunger games show and the mc is a fourteen-year old eigth/ninth grader that's been gifted by kami a phone that contains a journal showing him the future hence the name mirai nikki (future diary)
I do not want to spoil it, so give it a look yourself! (not space battle themed though, it has space/time travel, though)

An exception to that episode rule might be Legend of The Galactic Heroes. I haven't seen it, but intend to one day, b/c it's considered as one of the best ova series.
Other than that Cowboy Bebop is really good. A classic for anime fans. Takes place in space, too.
Steins;Gate- you seldomly can do anything wrong with this fascinating time travel anime!
