Minister for Justice Brendan O’Connor today welcomed the decision by NSW to join all jurisdictions in agreeing to create - for the first time - an adult category for computer games in Australia.

Law Ministers from all jurisdictions except NSW agreed last month to support in-principle the Commonwealth’s proposal to introduce an R18+ classification for computer games in Australia.

Finally. It's been a ridiculous situation for Australian gamers for years.

The law was really outdated, as it was made at a time when games weren't that advanced and they thought a 15 certificate would pretty much cover it. The government had been trying to change it for a long time, but it needed all Attorney-Generals to approve the change, and one of them refused to budge.

Congratulations, Aussies. You've got the sun, the beaches, and now you have the games!

Anyway, just to clarify, its only an "in-principle" decision, so there is still a small chance of it not happening, but we shall see. The other issue is how they are going to implement it, I've read a lot of people saying that its just the MA15+ games that they will be putting up to R18+ and that all currently banned games will stay banned under the proposed guidelines... but we shall see.
