Their last kiss was gentle, and tasted of tears.
Once they separated from their intimate embrace, she held his rough face in her delicate hands.
"Sasuke-kun," she said breathlessly, "please you don't have to leave. You can-"
He gently shushed her, "Don't. I'm lucky the Hokage hasn't already put a bounty on my head. It's safer for you and me if I leave."
"But you might get hurt." The look of worry was plastered on her flawless pale face.
"You don't need to worry about me, Hinata. Worry about yourself and being the best heir to the Hyugaa clan they ever had." He watched in pain as the tears came out of her white eyes when he said those words.
"You're leaving me. You're leaving me." Her breathing became more rapid. "Promise me you'll come back, alright?"
"I'll be back."
But he never came back.
