Does anyone here use Windows 7? If so can you tell me if your updates are working and does it take long to get them?

I'm having an issues that really annoys me. When I go to check for updates it gets stuck at "Checking for updates" for hours. Sometimes it's just half an hour but most of the time it just sits there. And if it decides to work and it shows me the updates, I try to get them and it gets stuck at 0kb and 0%.

I've tried all possible solutions to fix this. But since none of them work maybe it's a problem with their servers. So anyone who uses Win 7, can you use the update function? And if you can, is it fast?

Already tried it however my networking card doesn't work in safe mode so no internet.

Anyway thanks for the suggestion.

I'm using Windows 7 but I don't know about something like this  Sometimes in the tray, there's Windows Update icon but I always ignore it. More because I'm using low speed internet connection at the moment. But sometimes when I'm shutting down my laptop, there's "Windows installing update" on the shutting down process. Does it mean that it's installed automatically?

Sorry, I can't help you but leave another question

This could be due to a past update that didn't install properly and messing up windows update while I've never had the issue with Windows 7, I did run into that issue on my sisters computer that had Vista, (Had to uninstall so many past updates and reinstall them one b one. The issue may also be you have a virus which is disrupting the Windows Update, Have you run a full virus scan, and Malwarebyte on your computer? As well as other housecleaning tools like registry cleaner and Ccleaner. Specially if you have a mechanical hard drive, having a clogged up system can really slow down operations, It's why I always recommend SSD as the boot drive nowadays, it makes your life so much easier, I've not had a single software related problem on my PC for years.

Have you tried updating to Windows 10? apart from the questionable privacy policies, the software is the best OS Microsoft has ever released, which is ironic as it's largely just Windows 8 with a better userface.

You guys can close this thread. I've discovered what's wrong. It's the way Microsoft created the updater, it's done in such a way that before checking to see if new updates are out it checks all the updates that your system has. And this process is really slow. Thing is this happens sometimes not always. And there's no way to get around it. Sometimes it checks sometimes it doesn't.

For those of you that might have this problem you have two options either you let the updater do its thing because eventually it will do it or you can download the updates with this program: http://www.windowsup...ogramFiles.aspx and install them one by one. It's a pain in the ass to do so but it works.

I appreciate that you took your time to respond to my question.

@Popuri Yes the updates are installed automatically. Windows by default is set to update itself in the background. So there's a possibility that you're having the same issue as I do. But you don't see it because it's in the background.

@harry4e It's a fresh install of Windows on a brand new SSD. My very first SSD.

As for Windows 10 I have no intention of going that route anytime soon.

...

Now that you say that, I remember that I was frustrated since the process was so slow until days (I really ignored the Windows update). I thought it's because of my internet. I used to let it working on its own than manually update it.
So it's the way Microsoft updater? Got that now
