Its a move thats seen on kung fu, which influenced a lot of Asian cinema (especially Hong Kong cinema), which makes sense why its seen in anime.

Heres a video of a Shaolin monk performing it.

Definitely, and I think it's also especially telling when you look at the way HachiAnn (Hachimaru x Ann) was being built up in Samurai 8, and how they parallel off of NaruSaku in more occasions than one too. Especially when it pertains to the way certain scenes are paneled out in the manga.

Good observation. Those panels look almost traced directly from iconic manga panels.

The "rivalry" line from the Last always struck me as very odd because it answered a question (in a very poor way) that really didn't need to be answered at the time.

NaruSaku was already 6 feet under at the time and all it accomplished was making Naruto look petty and puts all their interactions in the manga in a worse light.

It was a throwaway line that was never brought up again, so why even bring it up to begin with?

At that stage, I wouldnt say narusaku was six feet under, only strangely sidelined. The movie author had to really kill it, considering so much of the manga hammered in the fact that Naruto really loves Sakura.

That particular plot-point in The Last was not only lazy writing, but it also made Naruto look like scumbag. I mean, really? Lie about your feelings and worse, for rivalry? Even though your rival couldnt give a damn about her?

The only thing it would accomplish was to make Sakura look a bit better for rejecting Naruto for many years. Oh, and ofcourse, fits the narrative that Hinata was always The One and Only True Love.

As he said in the interview, it nearly caused a rift in his own household when he made Hinata Naruto's wife because his wife was deeply upset and was constantly arguing with him about it. It isn't implied that he feared it as a possibility of happening, It literally was occurring at the moment.

I meant that the order of events was Kishi made nH -> wife got upset -> Kishi lies about how shes the basis for Hinata -> wife buys it, no tension (at least until she figures it out). Whereas BlueStar made it sound more like Kishi made nH -> wife got upset -> Kishi lies about how shes the basis for Hinata -> wife doesnt buy it, tension still in the house.

As for his comment about Hinata, while sexist, it emphasized once again how little he thought of her compared to her godforsaken fanbase because he has openly stated in past interviews that he doesn't understand her appeal.  In his mind, she served her purpose after the Chunin exams, and her moment against Pain (which was expanded and recontextualized in the anime by her SP fanboys to make her seem more cool and sympathetic as a character than she actually was) was her final hurrah.   Whenever he talked about Hinata, it seemed to range from dismissive to almost mockingly contemptuous.

Well, there was also that interview where he said he thought for a while about replacing Sakura in the story with Hinata.
