#355470 The Seemingly Great H&E 2014 Fantasy Football League

Posted by True on 06 December 2011 - 01:29 PM in Arts & Entertainment District

Now that's what you get when you draft Philip Rivers in the 1st round and he has one of his worst seasons ever. When it's on the line he gets you into the fantasy playoffs and face me!

Reavers! are this years Seahawks from last year. Kinda ironic since you are a Rams fan IIRC lol..

We limped in but held onto that 4th seed and the ThunderCats are ready to get our 2nd title!! After that first game shackling by the Leatherbacks and Tom Brady we evened the series with a BIG WIN against them and evened the series. Hopefully we get the grudge match to decide the split...

EDIT:

WOW Wulfpack is going all out in revamping his team. And he has the Baltimore D going up against the Colts and is giving 23 POINTS!?! I'm so conflicted from a Ravens fan and fantasy perspective.... sad.gif

Just got my copy in the mail!!

I wanted the Collectors addition but couldn't shell out $100. Got a cool "pamphlet" (seriously it could have at least been made from more sturdy material...) comic from my Amazon pre-order with some nice artwork.

Youch Shriner you are seriously snake bit with these losses, only two minutes away from sealing a win; so close yet so far away....

Reavers got screwed pretty bad too, talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory! Might have a tie for kick to the groin award this week...

Probably the ugliest matchup between the Thundercats and the Raiders. Thanks to the San Fransisco blowout to give the Tokyo Raiders -2 on defense and solidify a squeaky victory!

Reporter: Coach True! You have now lost two games in a row and are sitting at 1-3. Your supposed “dream” draft has turned into a nightmare. Is your team in jeopardy of missing the playoffs?

Coach: We are not going to utter the “P” word in this locker room. There will be no single mention of that subject until we get a win. You go by week to week in this league and our opponent is the Tokyo Raiders, not some other team down the line.

Reporter: Coach, what would you say is the biggest problem with your team?

Coach True: Another “P” word huh; it never stops with you guys. Well our biggest “Problem” starts with “C” which is consistency. We need more consistent play from ALL of our players to make for a team effort. One week our running backs put in a good effort and our WRs fail us and vice versa the next week. We expected Matt Schaub to put up better numbers but he is highly inconsistent and not producing like we expected. Roddy White needs to stop leading the league in dropped passes and get us more catches and Brandon Marshall needs to catch a freaking TD. We hope to turn that around this week.

Reporter: Do you still believe in Chris Johnson?

Coach True: Absolutely. 100%. We are fully behind him. He is getting into football shape again and we have faith he will reward us after the big salary we paid him.

Reporter: Any standout player you want to mention this week?

Coach True: We expect a big game out of Jacoby this week. He’s been looking good in practice all week and performed well last year when Andre Johnson missed some time. We feel like he can step up and produce great for us this week.

Reporter: Are you not nervous about your defensive match up? This experimentation with a situational defense is highly risky.

Coach True: Well ever since I was young I’ve been told to have faith and be a believer. I’m a believer in myself…in my team…in my players…and in my coaching abilities. We will take any risk we can get at defense because we trust and believe in each other as professionals and as men.

Reporter: Final thoughts heading into this week?

Coach True: We’ve had some rough patches these last few weeks no doubt about that! It’s a long season and I believe in these players and this team! We will thrive and return to form! There have been some mistakes, no doubt about that! BUT, we will regroup and rally and finish strong! It’s a tough week, it’s a tough season, its’ a tough game! And we are ready for any challenge!

Coach: We gave it our best effort. Scored the second most points in the opening weekend. Some guys underperformed. We expected more out of Chris Johnson but apparently their HC is an idiot for only giving him NINE FREAKING CARRIES! Doesn't help that Tom Brady ends up having the best QB performance of the opening week and completely shells us...

Reporter: You had some nice efforts from guys who weren't expected to put up big numbers. Brandon Marshall had a huge game, Cedric Benson turned into a stud flex, and Jason Witten looked like he sealed a comfortable lead heading into MNF.

Coach: Yes we are very happy with our guys who we got for a good price in the draft and expected to contribute to this team. I expected more out of Roddy White but apparently Matty "Ice" turned into a wet puddle in Chicago. Got to give credit to S-JAX for giving us what we expected with only 2 rushes...

Reporter: Playing that newly put together Houston Defense turned out to be a fantastic decision coach. They scored the most points for your entire lineup.

Coach: The Colts are nothing without Peyton Manning. There whole offense is based around him and his defense is built around having a lead. They may have better LUCK next year....

Reporter: Final thoughts coach?

Coach: Yes, yes....*bangs podium over and over again with fists before head butting it* I HATE YOU TOM BRADY. Why must you have a historic game when I'm playing you. You ruined a perfectly great game for the Thundercats!!!

Coach: OH BTW, we're looking for a top 10 defense. Don't know how much that costs, but contact if your interested.

WEEK 1 CONFERENCE:

Coach: Opening Day has finally arrived and we're looking to make a big impact in our first game.

Reporter: Coach! Coach! Over here. Yes, how do you like your QB Matt Schaub going up against the Manningless Colts?

Coach: Well first off best wishes to Peyton on a healthy recovery, he is truly one of the greats. But we're going to take advantage of the situation at hand and feel like a Colts team without Manning is no team at all. Schaub should carve up their secondary with Andre Johnson / Owen Daniels and our new look DEF will feast on Grandpa Kerry Collins and create some turnovers.

Reporter: With Chris Johnson holding his holdout and looking to go up against a weak Jacksonville team, do you feel like CJ2K was worth the risk?

Coach: For the ninth overall pick we got away with ransom. We all love Chris here on our team and he fits well with the guys. He is a playmaker and while Matt Hasselback isn't great, he is serviceable enough that teams can't solely stack the box to stop CJ and he should benefit from having a consistent QB. Don't forget about Steven Jackson going up against the Eagles weak LB corps. We expect a lot of runs and screen passes to him in order for the Rams to move the ball on offense. Cedric Benson should get some good workload with a rookie starting QB.

Reporter: You seem highly confident in your teams chances to win. Any concerns?

Coach: I don't think we have any weaknesses per say, but we have some expectations from our receiving corps to produce. Both Roddy White and Jason Witten are going up against great defenses so we hope they can at least get us a couple TDs between the two. Chad Henne is what concerns us about Brandon Marshall's production so MNF will be a big game, also in part because of the great QB we're facing.

Reporter: You're going up against Tom Brady. Any worries?

Coach: We all love Brady here in Third Earth, he was a big reason for our franchises first championship. No doubt he will score some big points for the Leatherbacks. Coach Soapdish has assembled a great team after his rookie year last season and we can't find any player that makes us raise our eyebrow. We will see in a couple hours how many touches Ryan Grant will get and if he will be the feature back, we have our doubts on that. We feel like the Lions are a good team on the rise, but their secondary is still weak and they're going up against a good QB in Josh Freeman. Other than that this looks like a close matchup that may come down to the wire on MNF.

Thundercats! HOOOOOOOO!

GM True: Alright, we’ve drafted our new players for this 2011 season. We feel like we got some great players to contribute to the starting lineup, some good depth options, and even some sleepers. We'll take questions now.

Reporter: True, do you think it was worth taking the risk on CJ in the first?

GM True: oh absolutely, we’re talking about a top 5 RB dropping all the way down to #9? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? <Deion Sanders voice> At that point we felt it was a medium risk and huge reward. We’ll take it.

Report: How do you feel about your starting lineup?

GM True: This might be the strongest unit we’ve drafted in our 3 years here. If you remember during our championship year we built our team through the waiver wires, making the most moves in the entire league. This year we feel like we have some great players to help our team from the get go.

  • Matt Schaub is a low end top 10 QB who has great statistical numbers with a strong offensive supporting cast. Getting him in the 4th round was excellent value.
  • Roddy White is an absolutely monster and with Julio Jones opposite him we feel like his numbers won’t drop and he will continue to produce at a high level and be our #1.
  • Brandon Marshall is an excellent WR who puts up good numbers despite great QB play. How can we complain about having a #1 WR as our starting #2?
  • Steven Jackson is a workhorse back and that’s exactly what we wanted for our second running option. With the development of Sam Bradford defenses won’t stack the box allowing Jackson to reap the benefits.

Reporter: You picked up Jason Witten in the 6th round; some would say an absolute steal, your thoughts?

GM True: As we continued to watch him drop we were shocked that he wasn’t gone by the time we got to pick. We got a great TE who is top 5 at his position in later rounds and quite honestly we feel like we got away with high way robbery!

Reporter: Could you give us a quick recap on your depth options?

GM True: After building our starting lineup with the first 6 picks we started to acquire help and backups. We got our 3rd feature back in Cedric Benson and have a strong RB group. Sidney Rice to us was a low risk / high reward #1 WR option pick in the 8th round. Malcolm Floyd and Lee Evans are solid #2 WRs on their teams and could be good flex options. Todd HEEEAAAPPP is a solid contributor behind Witten and Donovan McNabb is a good backup for Shcaub. Overall we feel like we have a solid team all around.

Reporter: Any final thoughts?

GM True: We have a lot of great teams in this league and we expect every one of them to be highly competitive and fight to the bitter end. However, we have confidence in our squad and coaching staff to take this team back to the top and reach that pinnacle we achieved our first year. We wish all the best to our fellow competitors and we’re coming for you!

CB: Josh Wilson taking over as a starter should be a vast improvement over the starter-by-committee which was Carlos Rogers (hands of stone, now with the 49ers) and Philip Buchanon (a disappointment as a starter, he's likely to be the 4th corner this year). Below the dime, there's an interesting set of prospects who look likely to put last year's 5th corner (Byron Westrook) out of the job.

Since the Redskins signed 3 former Ravens just my thoughts..

Dante Stallworth - Camp Body or a 3rd/4th WR at best. He has good speed to be a deep threat and could make a couple/few big plays, but is not a good router runner, inconsistent, and needs a great QB to make him look good.

Chris Chester - I honestly don't know how he got that huge contract. He gets absolutely no push and is pretty soft. He is terrible in pass protection and gives no leverage to the Center at all. Maybe he didn't fit the power blocking scheme of the Ravens, I think the Redskins will run a zone blocking scheme with Mike Shannan so I guess he could fit there. He is verstaile and can play all positions on the OL, albeit not very well...

Josh Wilson - Admittedly I was upset that the Ravens couldn't resign him. He has play making ability with excellent speed to match the fastest WRs on the opposing team so he will be a good fit on the outside. With Deangelo Hall across him they should make a good starting tandem. Orakpo and Kerrigan should provide a good pass rushing tandem so the secondary will have a much easier time. Wilson will get beat occasionally in a game and sometimes gets confused when in coverage (usually a miscommunication with the Safety) but he has strong potential.

Anytime next weekend is fine with me, and if its during 7 p.m. EST on Sunday I will be at home so that's preferable to do it at night.

I've been studying hard! Putting together a draft board, researching round strategy, analyzing every possible sleeper, matching up bye weeks, and doing a ton of mock drafts. Last year was a down year but we've fired the last Head Coach and brought in a True football genius to return our franchise back to glory!

Enslaved 8/10

I'm usually a sucker for most things based off of the epic Journey to the West story. I miss the character Sandy though. I do understand that it's probably more of a blase character compared to the rest. Great music and a beautifully constructed world. It's parts button-masher, parts strategy, parts puzzle, and parts x-sports. The voicework is solid, with Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings) using his gruffer voice for the title role of Monkey. The facial animations in the cutscenes are well done too. My biggest criticism is that the controls sometimes lag, with the actions not always occurring upon the buttons being pressed.

It was a pretty good game. I'd give it a 7/10 more due to the lack of scenery expansion and speaking on the outside world. The character development was phenomenal, but I wanted to learn more about what was happening else were. It's a solid platformer that also combines tactics and strategy so I liked that. The ending was pretty ambiguous and I'm guessing they're going to lead to a potential sequel.

Ellicott City, Maryland. 20 minutes from Baltimore. Very rich area but not much to do really since it's actually quite small and more of a suburbs. Only reason it's called "city" is because it was one of the very first towns that was created in the 1700s when the United States was just forming, so it isn't a huge metropolis.

I go to Robert H. Smith School in College Park and and as the name suggests it is pretty much a college town. Only a few minutes from where I did my undergrad at UMD.

Seattle played one of the best post season games I've seen. My brother was a very happy/sad Seahawks fan cause they won yet still go down in the draft order.

Sexy Rex finally beat Manning, though he should have beaten him in '06 if it wasn't for the Ravens typical putrid offense. Rematch #3 on the way.

Eagles...missed kicks, can't stop the run, dropped passes, and mistakes by Vick. Not a very good team effort. Fix the OL and defense.

And of course another playoff game up in Pittsburgh. Wouldn't have it any other way.
