Actually Hinata in part 1 did show care for her teammates and others. It was in part 2 that she was made into this obsessive Naruto-kunning character.
Come on man, she was a 13 year old girl in love. Thinking about Kiba when her true love Naruto was also injured, would make her a terrible girl
I know she showed how she cared for her teammates. like I said: It's just not always the case.

It's not just Hinata that was better in Part 1. Naruto was far better in Part 1 too. The promise of a lifetime he made to Sakura was one of my favorite scenes in the anime. It really showed how selfless of a guy he was, and how much he cared for Sakura's happiness. Too bad that scene is completely ruined once we find out that Naruto didn't care about Sakura because he was just trying to win her affection so he could best Sasuke. It still amazes me that they were able to destroy one of the strongest bonds in the series and ruin many scenes between them with one line of dialogue like that.

well she was only thinking about naruto during the written chunin exams when she wanted him to cheat off of her and she didn't even consider the consequences that it would have for her teammates

In my end Hinata is subverted and subdued by Hanabi, whom takes over the reigns of the Hyuga clan in place of her and Neji. Hanabi is far more like how she was during the Chunin Exams, being critical of her sister and strong-minded. In my mind that would make her a lot better of a character, being the serious one who sees Hinata and just wants her to wake up, put her Big Girl Pants on and stop acting like such a tool/pansy. Hanabi would forbid her from seeing Naruto outside of parties and events, citing that she has an unhealthy obsession with him.

If Naruto were to be caught copying, only Team 7 would have been disqualified. Hinata and her team would not be affected. Those were the rules of the Chuunin exams.

Perfection. If he had just drawn one more page like this one, it would have been perfect.
Edit: Ok, not perfect. It can't salvage the entire chaper, but at least this gives the reader a better form of closure.
