Hello everyone, I looked around and didn't exactly see a topic like this one.

So, I've been using firefox for many years. It was great, but lately, it's just been very glitchy and incompatible (with flash specifically). Due to my terrible internet connections, I usually load a bunch of videos in the background to watch over time. This didn't used to be a problem until I was forced to update flash (yet again) which just screwed everything up (again). It happens every time I HAVE to update firefox. Sometimes important always breaks and I have to break my neck to roll back or find a solution. I'm just tired of it.

So, yesterday, after barely holding back some mega rage from another flash crash (they go hand in hand), I decided I would switch to Chrome. This isn't the first time I 'decided' to do that. laugh.gif but one thing is always holding me back from Chrome, the apparent lack in true customization. "But what do you mean? It's very customizable!" I'm not talking about changing my theme or -insert extension-, I mean with how it's structured. I HATE the tabs on the top like that. I NEED an actual menu bar and status bar for various reasons and it just makes no sense to me for Chrome not to offer these options.

I despise the the tab functionality. I'm the type of person who has hundreds of tabs open at a time (for various reasons and projects) and having the tabs shrink so small to the point where not even the favicon appears is a disaster. Having a bunch of windows open won't due either. (and the amount of instances in the Task Manager is honestly worrying)

I just don't know what to do. Of course, I got some extensions to make the experience better with tab managing, but even still, does anyone know any extensions that sets tabs to have a min width and just allows you to scroll the tab bar instead of shrinking them into oblivion? Does anyone know if google plans to add more functionality to how the tab bar functions at all? I searched around all yesterday, but all I really find is complains about how silent Google can be with consumer requests.

I was all about Firefox a few years back, but just like you flash would crash more often then not and I was just getting tired of it. I never thought I would go to another browser but I just couldn't take it anymore. So I made the switch to Chrome. Now yes it does get some time to get use to but in the last 2 yrs I've had no problems at all with Chrome like I did with Firefox. Now I cant even remember what the tabs look like in FF but to me personally getting use to how a new browser looks and works is better then having to deal with constant crashes and glitches. I'm not sure if Google is planing more customization available to people but who knows. I'm sure someone out there has made a mod of Chrome that looks like FireFox. For now just keep up your search and give Chrome a try biggrin.gif

Good Luck!

You know, it's funny, but for me I have had nothing, but problems with Chrome. Firefox I never had any problems. I wonder if the OS has anything to do with it.

I also use Internet Explorer. It's old, but no problems with it.

I used to be a Firefox user but, like Konohakitten, I started having problems a couple of years back and not even a reinstall could fix it. In the end, I gave up and installed Chrome, and I haven't looked back since. smile.gif

I agree it has to be something with everyone's computer. I used Firefox for years on my old desktop with no problems at all. Then it started acting up on my laptop to where I couldn't even just check my email without it having a fit. So I switched to Chrome for my laptop and everything is fine.

I've used Firefox for years myself and although it's given me some trouble, it's nothing big, and I continue using it myself, expect I use a 64-bit variation on it called Waterfox which makes Firefox 64-bit on Windows machines that support 64-bits.

Before I'll say anything, it's important to realize the quality of a browser is always changing as time goes by. For such a long time Internet explorer was a joke and Firefox was the only way to go. But soon enough Internet Explorer wised up and really stripped itself of the clunkyness and got faster. Their browser is now so much better than it used to be and now Firefox has started to weight itself down. So really its an ever changing field of software.

I am however loving chrome so much ever since I since switching. The main appeal for me is that so many online services I use are also Google run so it is easy to log into Chrome once and then I'm logged into everything like Youtube and Google Finance. The second biggest thing for me is that I use Chrome as my browser on my iPhone and so when I make a preference change or make bookmarks on my laptop, they will automatically be there on my iPhone Chrome browser. This has proved incredibly useful.

It should be noted I'm running it on Mac OSX

I just can't go to internet explorer. I create webpages and IE just doesn't support some important CSS like other browsers so. That's changing of course, I heard IE10 will support more CSS3, but even still, I just can't do it. -it's still slow on my computers and computers at school, even though this is a brand new laptop :/ *just purchased it in the summer*-

Ah, Waterfox. I've only heard bits and pieces about it. It's for 64 bit systems eh? Maybe I should try it out then, it could help my situation.

As for Chrome, it has always been my backup browser. If there's something I can't do in firefox or I need to be logged into the same place under 2 different usernames, Chrome is there for me. I don't know, I'm just nervous about the big switch and getting used to how it works. Just like with the newer Microsoft suites, the lack of a static menu bar just isn't appealing (as well as the status bar).

I suppose I will have to wait for more functionality with Chrome (or look into Opera I suppose). Until then, I guess I'll just use it for video watching. Maybe this is just all Flash's fault. Adobe needs to get themselves together. Flash just sucks and it eats up so much memory for no reason. I remember the days when firefox barely used any resources and now it's at the top of the list 100% of the time unless I'm playing a game.

It really depends... Firefox does somethings for me that Chrome can't while Chrome runs much smoother for me while Firefox doesn't. Both have their issues ^^;

I mainly stick with Chrome though

Excuse me.
THe correct answer is Opera.

Firefox is the most processing demanding browser around.
And Chrome knows everything you do on the internet and sends to google like an spyware.

Sorry but no, as a someome who's specialized on this chrome makes you really vulnerable.
Internet itself does not see all, there are a lot of ways to trick a ISP or something like that but chrome is different chrome is a botnet.

Chrome collects information about what kind of content you search for so that it can later find better content related to what you search for. I don't see what the big deal about this is.

Privacy, and the search you do wil not be the same as the others in other words it can be even hard for you to find someome, and it's not only about this it also collect private information about you like, even credit card numbers, and other personal info.
It is a big deal.

when i started using chrome my email got hacked 2-3 times.

Ouch, well obviously I'm no specialist when it comes to these type of things so trying to debate over this isnt a good idea :/ didnt mean to step on your toes.
