Yeah, but look at Avatar: The Last Airbender. Aang and Katara were meant to be together since the beginning and the creators backed this up in many interviews yet there is always those people that refused to accept it or even said the creators were BSing.

Same thing in Harry Potter with Harry/Ginny vs Harry/Hermione.

Took the literal thoughts and words right out of my mind and mouth on those two pairings =p

Another good example of pairing fans being completely blindsided by what they believe to be the obvious pairing NOT being chosen as the endgame couple, is the recently-scrapped/revamped ThunderCats, and the slap in the face that the Cheetara/Tygra relationship turned out to be, to devoted fans of the Cheetara/Lion-O pairing. And even though the series creators will deny that the show was cancelled because of plummeting ratings after, 'the kiss seen around the world' between Tygra and Cheetara, and instead blamed the failure of the series on 'low toy production/sales', most fans of both pairings agree that it was because of the pairing war, and viewers/fans jumping ship. So, in some cases pairing wars can actually make or break a series.

No, I'm not saying an obvious pairing makes a bad story; but a pairing that doesn't end up together have much more drama/ anticipation for the readers. You can't really compare a 40-hour game to a weekly long-running manga series.

You can't or don't want to? Cause I just did.

Again, this is why I brought up Avatar with a single comparison in that the couple was planned from the very beginning. There was no question who the pairing couple was going to be and many of the creators said "This was the main bases since the beginning, we always knew this was going to happen." That's why I brought up this example. If the whole idea was to make that canon couple, then the time or length of the story matters little. That's my point.

I can even break this down further and say that the difference is merely making said game/manga. A game can take anywhere from 3-5 years to make which is a good time to write a story. Now a manga plot can take anywhere from 5-15 years simply because they want to publish each chapter in the manga. Now imagine if a manga wasn't released to the public until after it was finished. Wouldn't it be no different than the game itself? Take a game like FFVIII and release like 1 mission every week....you can really stretch the game out into years with 40 hours becoming 2 years.

This is especially true when in recent years developers have been doing what they call "Episodic" gaming now where a full game is released chapter by chapter and section by section. Imagine if this got expanded farther.

Bolded: Or even frustration....Take example the Wonder Years tv show where we have Winnie and Kevin who finally get together at the final episode only for the couple to break up and go separate lives after a huge jump cut. Not my favorite kind of story telling cause it feels like all that time was wasted development for a bittersweet ending where they get to say "Nothing ever ends up like you plan it." Not a lot of people were happy about it.

See exhibit A, Cloud Strife. We all know the guy is never going to get some because there are people who still love Aerith.

I personally think FFVIII was made in response to the fans who hated the love triangle in VII. But after the romance is said and done, nobody cares about it anymore. That's why you never see Rinoa together with Squall anywhere, but Squall is still popping up in games with his "pre-fallen-in-love" personality every few years.

And ofcourse, even though the pairing was obvious, Squall and Rinoa had their own hardships - ie with Rinoa becoming the new sorceress and Squall being the SeeD whose main goal is to destroy them.

Except they were never canonically confirmed to have ended up together. They live in the same house but sleep in separate beds. >_> If it wasn't for the fact that Nomura basically overtook every new FFVII project in the recent years, I doubt we'd see this much Tifa at all.

OBJECTION!!!! (Sorry, wanted to say that)

This scene, depending on your affection level, is basically Cloud and Tifa having sex in the game itself. Even the developers said that the original scene was of them coming out of a barn with Tifa having mad blushes on her face. Unfortunately, the Advent Children movie kind of reversed a lot of the development for both parties and almost seemed like neither of them ever happened especially with Cloud returning to his emo self in the story despite the acceptance he got in the games.

I know you are probably going to say "Well, that depends on your affection level." This is why I said "Both" because technically both are correct depending on what you want and it was purposely done that way. However, from the way things are and seeing how Aerith dies in the game....it is pretty much a guarantee Cloud and Tifa end up together. Plus, it's not like you can make Cloud go with Barret or Cid as a coupling.

As for the Squall representation, I am guessing you are referring to such things as Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia. To be fair, they did that for all characters from all Final Fantasy games and seem to just ignore a lot of the development that occurred in the games.

If you want another good example with a "forced outcome" look no farther than FFX. You have the option to make Tidus go for Rikku or LuLu, but no matter how hard you try or what you do, you will always have Tidus paired up with Yuna.

@ James Very true I mean if SasuSaku was the end game I ask them, why didn't Kishi just have Sasuke take Sakura with him. That way both NaruHina and SasuSaku would get the development, but they never answer me on it the just say odd thing like Sasuke wanted to keep her safe and all that which I do find stupid.

To me Kishi planed NaruSaku from the start as all there Black and white right in front of us.

Yes, there are also many subtle hints in the beginning of the manga. But the databook was so incredibly blunt, yet some still attempt to twist it.

If SasuSaku were to happen, why we keep seeing every potential moments ignored? Why we keep seeing more developments for Naruto/Sakura when they are already established as best friends? Even other mangaka decided to stop developing the relationship if they hit the peak of intended level.

Yeah which we have seen its just having to look hard and find the right ones aka the hug after Naruto fought Pain is just one of them.

I prefer Pairing Wars.

It's a lot funnier when you don't know who will end up with who.

I think this gives the fans wings to spread the imagination and that's awesome.

It's kinda boring when you know without a doubt that two characters will end up together. It's worse when there's no other character that can ruin the pair (by loving one of them or being loved by one of them). Why would I waste my energy cheering for a pair that's completely sure to happen? I found Ed x Winry (FMA) very tedious.

I don't think that Naruto and Sakura are an obvious couple. I mean, if you pay attention on the story, yes, you can say "there's something in there, they are really good together", but they are not obvious. There's a lot of reasons for I'm saying this and I'm not wrong. They can end up together in the end,  after all they're the most probable couple to happen, but obvious? Nononono. It's not even obvious that in the conclusion of NARUTO there'll be a pair formed.

Now I have a feeling that Sakura will die for Naruto. It'll in up being NaruHina. I just hope if Sakura dies and so does Hinata. Remeber Hinata has a younger sister.

If NaruSaku and NaruHina dies. Who would Naruto going married?

I think the couples would be these:

KarinXSai

InoXChouji

ShikamaruXTemari

Naruto be like Tsunade leaves the village.  Kakashi becomes the Hokage.
