#990485 The NEW NaruSaku Debate Thread

Posted by Kagomaru on 21 August 2023 - 09:37 AM

Wow, and NaruHinas are clutching onto that "The Kushina-Sakura connection was a deliberate red herring that's common in shonen" rhetoric even now and is trying to gaslight a CloTi fan (who doesn't watch or read Naruto) into believing it.

This is a common shounen dynamic (for the MC to fullfill their parent's wishes) that often serves the purpose of giving misleading hints. Like, in the Naruto manga, at some point he meets his dead mom and she tells him to find a gf with her own personality. Then everyone started thinking it was foreshadowing for canon NaruSaku. Same thing happens later when..

2.Naruto meets his dead father, Sakura’s beside him healing his wounds and the dad thinks Sakura’s his gf and tells her to take good care of his son. In the end Naruto never ended up with Sakura but with Hinata. NaruSaku was always meant to be a misleading ship (the author himself admitted it) with the sole purpose of spice things up. But people who didn’t let themselves being fooled, noticed that already

What's hilarious is that they conveniently leave out that Naruto was already crushing on/in love with Sakura long before his mother ever appeared and made her statement.  It had literally nothing to do with any projected need to appease his parents. It was long established that he and his father had the same taste in women.

Strange when i put myself in naruto's shoes i came up with a different perspective

Christ, the incel is strong in that post.  Why yes, why on Earth would you want a partner you don't have to put airs around and will keep you grounded in reality while supporting you in a meaningful fashion (which is *not* to be a mindless yes-woman) when you can have a coddling doormat who will never take any initiative of her own? :ermm:

Which ultimately leads to:

A) A misbehaving son that's acting out as a punk for the sake of attention and spite.

B) An undisciplined daughter that sucker-punches her dad for no reason and ruins the most important ceremony of his career.

C) You being constantly swamped with work, which inevitably leads to anxiety, stress, fatigue and becoming an alcoholic to cope because your wife won't ever confront you about maintaining your physical/mental health or remind you of your priorities as a father/husband.

And she never doubts him? The idiot that stepped into a fight that she had no business intervening in because, by her own admittance, she was just acting out of her own selfish desire and made the situation exponentially worse?  Or when she told her pre-teen kids to protect their demi-god of a father, that's meant to be "support"?  Or when she kept fretting over him during the war while Sakura told her that Naruto would be fine - which is the proper expression of confidence and faith in one's partner -  that's supposed to be "encouragement"?  Spare me.

Boruto looks like a rejected One Piece character design, while Sarada looks like she's going through her emo/goth phase.

Saw some people having a meltdown over this from a certain fandom, but then again what else is new?

That said, I love it!

I don't even understand why they bother acting indignant anymore.  They've seen for themselves throughout Boruto that Naruto sparsely shows consideration towards his children or any attraction towards Hinata.  Hell, he even called her out as a idiot for being more concerned about him being danger than their freakin' children.

Oda is from the Akira school, so he does what he wants and, if possible, surprises the fans. Just look at his interviews to notice that.

Togashi is also from the same school of authority over his work; even Kubo is.  The main reason that Kishimoto isn't part of that club is because he's always been a little weak-willed as well as a people pleaser. Not to mention they were gaslighting and coercing him when he was at his most vulnerable.

There's no implied mandate by Shueisha that requires that the shonen male protagonists must reciprocate the feelings of girls that show an interest in them, regardless of onscreen chemistry and compatibility. Nisekoi (which concluded two years after Naruto) ended with the MC getting with the lead heroine, in spite of the fact that his original love interest confessed to him first.  Komi-san had its MC reject someone from his love triangle in spite of confessing first.  MHA just killed off Himiko after she confessed to Midoriya that she loved him before Ochako had her chance, and he rejected her.  Even Mashle had its lead protagonist frequently reject/ignore his self-proclaimed fiancee to the very end of the series.   I could go on.

The closest thing to what you describe is in Demon Slayer with Tanjirou x Kanao, and the authoress at least establishes some rapport between them before they hooked up.  And Tanjirou had no other prospects.

I get that you're still jaded over Shuiesha and Pierrot influencing Kishimoto, but what happened in that title has not magically become law for all of their Shonen manga.  Especially when several newer authors seem to have taken Naruto as an object lesson to be much more prominent in establishing the main couples in a shonen title from the get-go, so that there's no confusion or debate.  Black Clover and My Hero Academia being good examples.

The only reasons why Shueisha pushed for Hinata as the lead heroine/love interest was because they heard about her appeal in the west and thought that would make them bank, as well as some of the editors and SP staff fetishizing her. And we've seen how that turned out.

i've read a bunch of naruto betrayed fanfic where even tsunade and jiraya and sometimes in minato and kushina betraying him

Ah yes, those fics...

I really can't stand that revenge fulfillment/power fantasy garbage since it requires everyone to be grossly out of character and expects us to root for Naruto when he becomes a psychopathic PoS that puts Orochimaru to shame.  Oh, and Hinata is always naturally immune because "she always had Naruto's back.", even when she hid in the shadows and did nothing as he was "abused".

Nah, his self-insert has always been Naruto. He freely admits that Naruto's personality - and even his life experiences - are based on himself.  Sasuke, OTOH, was based upon on his twin, Seishi. Furthermore, he has made it empathically clear that he *hates* both SS and NH. He even stated that Sasuke and Sakura would likely divorce in the future, if he had his way. Never mind the fact that he's the one that heavily suggested in the Boruto Gaiden that Sarada is Sasuke and Karin's love child. And what's probably pertinent to point out is that if Sasuke was his alter-ego, his wife wouldn't have been so pissed at him for shipping Naruto with Hinata, instead of the character that was based directly on herself.  So, unless he and his wife's marital situation is far worse than we initially thought, the idea of Sasuke being his self-insert doesn't make any lick of sense.

And as for the Hinata replacing Sakura statement, This was in one of the past interviews mentioned where he was being sardonic when he heard about Hinata's favoritism, then proceeded to say that he would just write Sakura with more spirit to increase her appeal to the fan audiences.

It also pisses me off because all it did was make Sakura seem like she was USING Naruto to get what she wanted, ruining her in the process while doing the same to Naruto and his empathy!

And the fact that Naruto doesn't even deny it makes it worse. Especially when you recall that the *real* reason Sakura and Ino fought over Sasuke was a pretext so that Sakura could be included within a group among her peers and avoid being ostracized over her forehead.

Thanks for that, I must have forgotten about the last part of that interview. However, it seems like he said he thinks it would lead to tension in the house, but it was fine for the time being. In either case, I take his interviews even less seriously than the manga ending. There was that other interview, where the guy next to him said his favourite character was Hinata, and Kishis reply was you like big bosomed girls? Barf.

As he said in the interview, it nearly caused a rift in his own household when he made Hinata Naruto's wife because his wife was deeply upset and was constantly arguing with him about it. It isn't implied that he feared it as a possibility of happening, It literally was occurring at the moment.  As for his comment about Hinata, while sexist, it emphasized once again how little he thought of her compared to her godforsaken fanbase because he has openly stated in past interviews that he doesn't understand her appeal.  In his mind, she served her purpose after the Chunin exams, and her moment against Pain (which was expanded and recontextualized in the anime by her SP fanboys to make her seem more cool and sympathetic as a character than she actually was) was her final hurrah.   Whenever he talked about Hinata, it seemed to range from dismissive to almost mockingly contemptuous.

When he said Sakura would be a terrible woman if she move on from Sasuke....

I don't care if it's Japanese culture. I don't care  I get called an SJW or woke... That is the most sexist, vile disgusting thing  I have heard him say.

It literally has nothing to do with Japanese culture, considering that the Japanese fans were just as baffled and pissed by both the result and his reasoning.  He himself derided the pairings as toxic or done out of pity (in Hinata's case).  It was his dumbass attempt at covering SP and WJS's asses for them because he couldn't just say that "My editors and the animation studio in charge of the production of my manga's adaptation have been gaslighting me about the alleged popularity of this minor character that I barely care about and kept coercing me for years to replace Sakura because they have a bizarre fetish towards her, and wouldn't leave me alone to craft the story as I intended.  Also, they took advantage of the fact that my father just passed so that I would be more emotionally susceptible to their needling."

Yeah she didn't buy it and it lead to so tension in the house

Hell, Oda (whose friends with Kishimoto) pointed out that his wife looks like Sakura/Kushina.

Ugh, I can't believe someone actually compared Juvia's feelings for Gray with freakin' Hinata and Sakura's "love" for their husbands by saying that their feelings are "pure", not obsessive.  Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Juvia wouldn't actively neglect the emotional and physical well-being of any children that she and Gray will have to purely focus on him, nor would she contemplate sacrificing innocent people for a unholy ritual just to be with him forever if either of them died. Girl is over-the-top when it comes to how she displays her love for Gray, but she actually does have solid principles and values and cares dearly for others outside of her love interest.

Not to mention the fact that unlike Hinata and Sakura, her man genuinely reciprocates her feelings without needing to be guilt-tripped by a goddamned illusion or stalked and harassed into complicity.
