Last 2 months there has been almost no updates on some amazing NaruSaku stories, and a lack of new ones too. I remember when everyday atleast 1 of 25 stories I follow were updated, but now I condsider myself lucky if there is one a week :/

Have no clue! Maybe some people stop writing or real life got in the way. Sometimes it's the latter.

It's unfortunate that a lot of the good NS fics aren't being updated. But then again, I guess being at the mercy of an author without a strict posting schedule is a is the price we pay for being fanfiction readers. sweatdrop.gif I don't blame the authors though, I can't imagine constantly writing long and detailed chapters. Well, I can't speak for other authors, but I've been incredibly busy lately. Writing falls to the back-burner when that happens.

However, I'm writing today! Hooray!

And I have some new fics coming, but I want to have it mostly done before I start posting (so I can post at a regular schedule, even when life gets hectic). Anyway, like I said, can't speak for other authors, but I am writing, just saving it up. So it's like a trade off. A longer wait, but more consistent updates.

I have wondered though about the recent slowdown in NS events (and the surge in NH ones) and if that slows down the momentum of the fanfics. Like is NH pairing experiencing a boost in stories right now?

I would expect it to be the opposite, that shippers would turn to ff when their pairing is lagging, but maybe it's the opposite. Or rather, maybe the readers are there but the writers aren't motivated. *shrugs*

I, too, have been incredibly busy. As I've mentioned before, I have a fairly serious health problem that frequently puts me in no condition to do anything -- much less write fan fiction. On top of that I have a family member dying of cancer, and another in and out of the hospital due to a freak series of strokes that has left him paralyzed. I spent a lot of time in hospitals these days, and it sucks pretty majorly.

Point being, there's stuff going on in real life that prevents me from spending big blocks of time writing fan fiction. Writing is something I love, though, and I return to it whenever I can. I'm also working on an original novel.

As far as the overall slowdown of fic production/updates goes, I would encourage anxious readers to leave reviews on the stories they like. Even if you've already reviewed, leave one as a guest. Nothing boosts the morale and motivation of a writer like a review that says what a reader likes about their story and how much it is enjoyed.

I see a lot of readers complain about update slowness and seemingly unmotivated authors, but at the same time a lot of readers don't leave reviews to inspire the author and let them know their hard work is appreciated. There is a significant cost of time and effort for an author to produce a quality fic. By comparison, a review is easy.

When times get tough in a fandom -- or a pairing goes through a canon slump -- or even when everything's going great -- encouragement and building a strong fandom through fan fiction is a two-way street.

Just my opinion.

When it starts to feel like work, you have to take a break. After all, fanfiction is a labor of love, and if you don't love writing it, it won't be any good.

I don't think I've ever heard it explained so well, I totally agree!

I couldn't agree more KnS, reviews really do make a difference. It's great when you see people favoritng and following your story but not getting a review is a downer. Given I'm not writing for attention, but I want to to know why my readers liked a chapter, what was their favorite part and why, and of course what they didn't liked. I truly value my readers opinions and on days when I just don't feel like writing a review can change that.

As for myself my kids are getting older, and one would think that would mean more free time, but no it doesn't. Gideon just turned 1 on the 8th and he's starting to walk. That means all eyes must be on him at all times. He's already had some bad spills, and he's gotten into the toilet and dog water I don't know how many times so yeah he needs to be watched, every waking moment that he's up and about. Kaiden is going to be starting school so I'm working with him and his letters and numbers more. I also just got a drawing tablet so I'm working on my art more. Every day I seriously try and write a little but some times it does feel forced and when that happens I just walk away. Writing any where from 7-9k words isn't something that happens over night XD especially when you're me.

I sympathize with your impatience, but as an author, I can tell you that we don't do it to hurt our readers. Some wait for a while for the feedback (I do believe I'm guilty of this), others are busy, others are lazy or procrastination, others have write's block, or maybe they've lost interest. It's not uncommon to find unfinished story in FF, so if the story you follow hasn't been updated in the better part of a year, then it probably won't be updated.
