No Wolfheart the PS was not aimed at you, it was aimed at the argument that Sakura is also at the same level as the sannin. Ofcourse intelligence can get you to the level of Kage, remember the Third Hokage? He was known as a Professor so he got to where he was because of his strength and intelligence. Shikamaru is capable of reaching that level if he put in the hours to built up his stmina and chakra levels. He's not even close to that level yet but lets face it he managed to reach Chunin via very little work, if he worked hard, who knows how strong he might end up.

And RyrineaHaruno using an eight year old as an argument is a dreadful example, She beat up a nameless girl who has had close to no ninja training, yet Ino has probably learnt the basics from her father. That's like saying Naruto is never going to reach Kage level because he failed the academy end of year exam three years in a row, or Sakura will never be a strong Koniochi because she couldn't stand up to some bullies when he was a little kid. At Eight Kakashi was alreay a Genin (or was it Chunnin?) and Naruto was the Dobe, yet add another eight years and Naruto can summon giant toads, is the Toad Sage, has a move that makes the Chidori look like a D-Rank Jutsu and is all all round stronger than Kaskashi was when he was sixteen.

I don't think using the third to back up Shikamaru can work really, he was smart yeah, but he was also much stronger then Shikamaru. I just don't think he has that much capability to gain the strength of a kage.

Think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. biggrin.gif

Yup looks like we're going to agree to disagree. But I still say if the Hokage's son though he was capable to reage Kage level then I think there is a point, though Kage level is onfusing when talking about Shika considering his power is Kage, which means shadows so you could get confused when talking about him.

Lulz at ^ kage (shadow) and Shikamaru's clan techniques confusion (no offense), that's why I'll be writing it as -Kage (you know, like Mizu+kage, Ho+kage, etc.?)

Though I do agree with Shikamaru not being a -Kage level. The difference with Hiruzen (3rd Hokage) and Shikamaru is that Hiruzen was trained by both the 1st AND 2nd Hokage, so not only was Hiruzen intelligent enough to be called The Professor, but he was probably very, very formidable, we're looking at the sensei of all 3 Legendary (and ex-Legendary) Ninjas here. Shikamaru can be reach -Kage level strength, but he probably lost an amount of time over the years because he was slacking off and not training unlike people such as Naruto, Sasuke, and Rock Lee. At best, he can be a field commander who leans towards stealth/guerrilla warfare and battle tactics than relying on brute force.

Rock Lee

Ok, what about Sakura, I mean she trained under a saninin I doubt Rock lee can become a kage level being. Kage level mean they have a thousand Justus. Rock lee has a best can become a high level Joinin thought like Gai.

He didn't say Rock Lee can become Kage-level.

shadow was simply implying that Lee had trained extensively over the years, while Shikamaru might have slacked off.

Kage-level also doesn't have to mean you have thousands of techniques. That was Sandaime only, he was called the professor for having a high level of intellect and various techniques.

A "Kage" simply means you're the protector of the village and you're the strongest. Having a wide array of jutsu only adds to that.

Thanks for Cloud's clarification, but yes I said "...probably lost an amount of time over the years because he was slacking off and not training unlike people such as Naruto, Sasuke, and Rock Lee."

Shikamaru would be -Kage level if he trained his butt off to match his skill/strength with his formidable intelligence, but he didn't. Though I'm not sure if there is indeed a specific amount of techniques a candidate needs to be a Hokage or that the candidate should have aspects befitting the position: such as leadership, strength to protect the villagers (may be independent of # of Jutsus, but certainly adds to the ability to protect the village, like Cloud said), loyalty, etc....
