Don't know if we'll see her use it, but that double headed axe is called a labrys and is associated with ancient women warriors in the west- the real Amazons, and warrior priestesses of the Minoan civilization. Even in Asian countries it's known as an ancient western women's weapon, so symbolic of a powerful woman warrior. Kishimoto likely used it to foreshadow Sakura's training under Tsunade as not only a medic nin but a fighter known for her skilled use of physical strength in battle. To weld a labrys required not only strength but skill...

With the Tsunade/Sakura foreshadowing, I agree completely.
Plus, Sakura + Swords = awesome.

lol some of you were pretty convinced that Kishi sits at home fuming over the anime. The animation studio pretty much gets the will to make whatever they want. Kishi isn't all that involved. He is writing the manga.

It's single headed axe in part 2 associated with Sakura and it's on the cover of volume 33. The blade has "Haruno Sakura" written on it and is strapped to Naruto's back. Kishimoto switches from a labrys to a single headed axe associated with Sakura in part 2 (maybe an influence from BTVS which was shown in Japan and was somewhat popular, the last episode of BTVS aired in Japan some time in 2004... Buffy welds a one headed axe, misnamed a scythe in the last episode of BTVS, and the weapon is supposed to be a weapon used only by women warriors, there is a resemblance of sorts between the weapons...)

i dont know....in one of the art book kishi gives her one XD in fact he shows her having an axe like 3 times so far :o including this one :3

Sakuras strength is amazing. Pierot needs to give her more credit for her abilities.
And Naruto is even carrying that axe in volume 33 cover, they're two both strong shinobi.
