#237490 We Need More NaruSaku Fanfiction!

Posted by ebonydreads on 23 August 2009 - 08:21 AM in The Library Coffee Shop

Like people have already said, quality over quantity. Why lose sleep over something like not having as many fics as another fandom? Let's be content with what we have: some beautiful, compelling gems that we can treasure.

#237489 do you keep your identity as a fanfiction author a secret in real life?

Posted by ebonydreads on 23 August 2009 - 08:16 AM in The Library Coffee Shop

A couple of my friends know, but I try to keep people knowing to a minimum. I prefer to keep things like that to myself.

#207313 Your Favorite Crack Pairings

Posted by ebonydreads on 20 December 2008 - 07:53 AM in Naruto General

ShikaSaku; KakaSaku; NejiIno; LeeHina; HidaTema; ShikaHina; KakaHina.

smile.gif Yeah, I know pretty weird pairings.

ShikaTema or LeeTen. Either way, it doesn't matter.

#190610 Fanfiction Hates

Posted by ebonydreads on 01 September 2008 - 01:00 PM in Writing Discussion

1) Mary-Sues
No words can express my hatred for these horribly unrealistic characters. Who wants to read about an impossibly beautiful, well-endowed, athletic, intelligent and otherwise perfect character? Pretty much no one, I think. Personally, I like to be able to relate to a character through their struggles to overcome one of their flaws. With Mary-Sues, that's pretty much impossible.

2) Bad spelling, grammar etc.
Sure, not everyone can have perfect spelling, grammar and punctuation, but that's no excuse to not put in the effort to proof-read your own work. Even when you don't want to proof-read, at least get someone else to do it for you. Is it really too much to ask for someone to help you make your fiction at least readable?

3) Too much description on what a character is wearing.
It's nice to know what a character is wearing, but a full-out description is just tedious and usually totally unecessary. We don't need to know what exactly your character is wearing and how they are wearing it.

Just some pet peeves of mine when it comes to fanfiction.

Pretty, no?

#190066 What do you look for in a NaruSaku fanfiction?

Posted by ebonydreads on 29 August 2008 - 07:57 AM in The Library Coffee Shop

^ Exactly! The atmosphere of a NaruSaku, or any fic really, is very important. I can't believe I didn't add it to my opening post! ^^;

I have to disagree with your preference for smaller stories, though. I prefer longer fics because I believe that they usually give more time for development. Realistic development, mind you. Then again, I hate fics that drag on and on and on. Oneshots are great for a good dose of NaruSaku when you haven't the time for reading longer fics. I admit I've read more than my fair share of NaruSaku oneshots and most of them I've enjoyed immensely. smile.gif

#189956 Who's starting to give up on NS

Posted by ebonydreads on 28 August 2008 - 11:20 AM in Icha Icha NaruSaku

No. I'm never going to give up on NaruSaku until it is official that they will never get together. And like a few people have already said, Naruto is shounen manga and romance has never been a big part of Naruto and most likely never will be.

#189955 What if NS didn't happen?

Posted by ebonydreads on 28 August 2008 - 11:16 AM in Icha Icha NaruSaku

I'd scream into my pillow and curse to the heavens. Oh and maybe express my displeasure on the NF forums or something. Then I'd sink back into my old routine of reading and writing fanfiction for them, drowning in my blissful ignorance to the fact that they never officially get together.

#189953 Viz media give a shoutout to NaruSaku! 8D

Posted by ebonydreads on 28 August 2008 - 11:12 AM in Icha Icha NaruSaku

I saw this over at the NF forums. Still pleasing to read though. smile.gif

#189952 Why DO we like Narusaku?

Posted by ebonydreads on 28 August 2008 - 11:09 AM in Icha Icha NaruSaku

1. It makes logically sense. I can see them together more than I can any other pairing.
2. Their bond. They've been through thick and thin together. It's amazing that they've made it this far.
3. They look gorgeous together, I must admit.
4. Their kids would be absolutely beautiful.
5. How much they've been through together.
6. Realistic relationship.

#189951 What are you listening to?

Posted by ebonydreads on 28 August 2008 - 10:43 AM in Fun Cafe

At the moment, I'm listening to Disturbia by Rihanna.

#189595 I have a question about FF.net...

Posted by ebonydreads on 25 August 2008 - 09:55 AM in Writing Discussion

I have never had a problem with the story alert or any alert, really. If you have another email address, try changing it to that and see if you get your alerts there.

#189593 What do you look for in a NaruSaku fanfiction?

Posted by ebonydreads on 25 August 2008 - 09:33 AM in The Library Coffee Shop

Just as the title says, what do you look for in a NaruSaku fanfic? For instance, do you have any pet peeves when it comes to the characterisation of Naruto and Sakura?

I'll start off: I, for one, always look for great detail and depth in the development of their relationship, whether it'd be romantic or otherwise. I tend to avoid fics that protray Sakura as a slut or Naruto as an idiot. I also dislike it when an author focuses solely on the romance and doesn't take into account the other facets of their relationship.

#189592 What do you think about FF.Net's new Feature?

Posted by ebonydreads on 25 August 2008 - 09:07 AM in The Library Coffee Shop

I quite like the new feature. I'm certainly not estatic about it, but it's interesting to see where your readers come from. smile.gif I think that I've had a reader from Malta, if I remember correctly and I'm not sure where that is!

#189590 Good NaruSaku fics are slowly dying. Agree?

Posted by ebonydreads on 25 August 2008 - 08:59 AM in The Library Coffee Shop

QUOTE (Deej @ Aug 15 2008, 11:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I've actually found better romance in gen fics than in many romance fics. Sometimes pairing stories try too hard and are heavy handed with the romance. Gen fics usually concentrate on the development of the relationships without worrying about a pairing.

I have to agree with you. Many romance fics focus too much on the romance and forget about the other facets of the developing/established relationship.

And, yes, NaruSaku fanfiction has been lagging quite a bit lately. Have no fear though, because there are very good writers out there that do put effort and thought into their stories. happy.gif Heck, even the authors writing below-average NaruSaku fanfiction at the moment could wake up and work to improve their stories. I think the key element needed to help people improve their writing is a good and very thorough betareader.
