Lets see if we can list all the retcons and abandoned subplots in this manga. I'll start!

 

Retcon: Hiruzen being the strongest Hokage ever

 

Abandoned Subplot: Tenten finding the sage's tools

- Orochimaru wanting to see what decision Sasuke made

- the inherited insanity that accompanies the sharingan (hello? shouldn't this be now passing to Sakura and Sasuke's kids? why isn't anyone in konoha freaking out about this?)

- Yamato

Everything. Everything the manga has set up has been abandoned. The only thing that was touched upon was Sasuke's redemption.

Sakura's ability to decifer genjutsus' and her Inner-Sakura being dispelled.

 

I think Inner-Sakura disappearing can be somewhat explained, though. Inner-Sakura was more or less just a way to show what Sakura was really thinking. In a situation where she would have to be polite, she would act that way, but inside she was impatient and often angry.

 

That disappeared in the second half, though, because by then, Sakura didn't hold back much any more and said what she was thinking much more often.

I somehow don't think this is the case. Inner-Sakura was quite clearly shown to be a very strange phenomena, much more than just a representation of showing what she was really thinking.

 

This was shown during Chapter 73 where Sakura had been caught by Ino's Mind-Transfer jutsu, where we see Inner Sakura actually pushing out Ino's mental hold on her, and even causing Ino some mental damage.

 

Ino even comments, "Two minds...what are you?" This suggests that Inner-Sakura is far more than just her 'real' thoughts or a strong will-power, but something else entirely.

 

This whole thing is another inconveniently discarded plot point, along with Sakura's genjutsu potential.

 

I have a strong feeling that in the very early stages, Sakura was going be created as the smart, psychological style fighter with a strong knack for healing and genjutsu techniques, using Inner Sakura as a way to foil any attempts of genjutsu, including Uchiha-based ones, but this part is just speculation.

It's like the only thing that mattered in the end was the pairings.

 

Oh, and Naruto did become Hokage. But they didn't show this in a very satisfying way. It's like his personality got changed too much in the process.

Yeah. Everything else either was never touched upon or got such a weaksauce ending that they might as well have abandoned it anyway. It was all about Sasuke.

See. Sasuke was a man of great conviction. So strong, in fact, that he gave up his goal ten minutes later when he got his ass kicked.

Seriously, it's not like Naruto was convincing or anything. Sasuke just lost. :(

For what exactly did he became Hokage? Leadership? Sound Decision making? Nah, being from powerful parents and a lineage that goes back to a dood that gave him free powers. That's it I think.
