Females

5.
Yukino Miyazawa from "His and Her Circumstances." While the series might initially come across as just a high school comedy, upon further reflection, it's actually a good breakdown of relationships. One of the reasons is the main character Yukino, who has a great character arc throughout the story.

4.
Ma Joad from "The Grapes of Wrath," is an awesome character in the story and represents the backbone of the family. She's a strong woman carrying on in the middle of the Great Depression. Jane Darwell, who played her, won an Oscar for her portrayal.

3.
Belle, from "Beauty and the Beast." To this day "Beauty and the Beast" remains one of my favorite Disney features and Belle is a big reason why. She's a great character and her back-and-forth with the Beast is fantastic.

2.
Sarah Connor in "Terminator 2" was the character at her absolute best. She was a warrior, tough and didn't trust anyone but her son and for good reason. Linda Hamilton deserves a lot of credit for her work.

1.
I'd say Rose Dawson from "Titanic." That was Kate Winslet's first major introduction to the big screen and she really pulled it off, portraying a woman trying to make sense of her direction in life.

Males

5.
One anime character on this list and its Yusuke Urameshi from "Yu Yu Hakusho." In my view, Urameshi is my favorite shonen protagonist because of how he starts off so relatable. He's a young angry teenager with a sense of humor and a drive to protect people. I think he's one of the more underrated characters in anime.

4.
Norman Bates is one of the most interesting characters I've seen put to film and Alfred Hitchcock did a brilliant job exploring a killer's life. On top of that, he was brilliantly portrayed by Anthony Perkins.

3.
Next one is from "To Kill a Mockingbird," Atticus Finch. In "Mockingbird," Finch is a stoic center of morality and law during a trial with heavy racial issues. Gregory Peck, who played Finch, was just fantastic in the role.

2.
One of the more recent characters to hit the screen that is a favorite of mine is Driver from the 2011 thriller "Drive." Played by Ryan Gosling, Driver is a quite, reserved man who is both a stuntman and a getaway man. What makes his character interesting is that he tries to live a normal life, yet he can't escape his past. Ryan Gosling did a fantastic job in portraying this type of character.

1.
The portrayal of real wild west gunslinger Doc Holliday in "Tombstone." Played by Val Kilmer, Holliday is a such a great character, a perfect representation of the outlaw with a heart of gold. He's a gunslinger and gambler but throughout the movie he also shows examples of bravery and friendship.

yesss! kare kano is such a good story :excited: the anime version was hilarious but at times littered with lengthy recaps, animation lapses, and later a resorting to figures mounted on popsicle sticks.

Did you know Bates is based on a real life killer, Ed Gein? Gein's crimes were ghastly though he had only two known murders to his name, though he was a prolific grave robber.

Yep, over in Wisconsin. Inspired a few other movie characters, too.

This is difficult because I have so many women, and so little men..I even had to google top males lmao

Ki Seung-nyang! Empress Ki! I usually have a problem with Kdramas that the men are really complex and well-written, and the women pale in comparison. But Seung-nyang is the queen of all.
Toph and Katara. Tie! Can't choose between them..
Mulan.
Catwoman!
I should bring asoiaf(not got)! into this because all the women are so great, but that just makes it more difficult. My favourites are Sansa, Arianne, Dany, and Ygritte. If I had to pick it must be Sansa, with Arianne in second. :<

Luffy! I love Luffy. He is so honest and carefree and his spirit simply brings joy.
Zuko <3 ! How could I not.
Kimura Shunji from Gaksital. I think it's the best portrayal I've seen of how slowly but surely a goodhearted person can fall into the darkness..
Alibaba from Magi.
Ace!
