I notice lately these fics are starting to become the center of attention that authors pride themselves or feel incline to play devil's advocate with a pairing to their amusement. It was my worse nightmare when I read the Shy Blossom fic by Maymist and it ends up at trolling NS just like any SS writer.

I have never seen any NS and SS written great without the NarSasu element and convinced all writers that that write these fics are SS fans that are out to slander NS. That's just my thought. What do you guys think about these fic?

They're just fanfiction so I doubt it's a bad influence, I don't it causes harm to the actual ship.

Whether it be that's the way they're guiding the story to make it a love triangle driven supposedly "pragmatic" angst, or it's just their writing style or they really have no clue how to develop a romance so they follow tidbits of others stories, or bad storytelling, or just downright trolling like you said.  --- it could be a whole lot of things. My opinion is I think it falls down to bad writing and bad storytelling.. But besides, there's the once in awhile hidden gems of fanfiction that actually do NaruSaku justice. Just gotta search a bit.

I'm very into that fanfic. I'm also annoyed by it.

LMAO I always see that fic and never clicks it. I read the reviews first to find out which pairing happened.

I noticed since the new multi character built in filter has been establish, these fics started popping up in the achieves. I don't get what drives these authors to write these fics, knowing who they are going to choose in the end game pairing for their story. When the autho decides to end a pairing is very controversial. I know it's just fanfiction but people do actually spend partial of their spare time to read fanfiction, and what I meant by bad influence do NS is that it shows that some of our NS writers are following the same example.

Tragic endings or one of the boys falls out of love is acceptable but not this trolling BS.

It's time someone has to write two fanfiction that trolls both fanbases to see how it feels like be on the losing end trolling. Sadly I have to be the writer that has to do this to NS):

Not sure about being a "bad influence" but I believe the NaruSakuSasu love triangle plot device is one of the laziest in fanfiction (love-triangles in general are bothersome). It's just a cheap way of adding drama to a story, in my opinion.

Also, it just kills my NaruSaku-vibes and the writers usually make Naruto a pathetic lovestruck child. (See: Seduce My Wife!)

*puts on tinfoil hat*

My hypothesis (which is completely anecdotal) is that you see this a lot because there seem to be many more Sakura fans than Naruto fans, at least in the shipping fandom. There are multiple reasons for that, which I won't get into, but that fact has become very clear to me as I spent more time on tumblr (which is where "shipping" is concentrated).

Therefore, these people want to see Sakura happy since she is their favorite character. Her happiness/well-being is a priority over Naruto's, at least to them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but that seems to be what happens.

How does this relate to SasuSaku? Well it's not completely unreasonable (to them, to me it's a horrid couple) to imagine Sakura being happy with Sasuke either. He was her first love, after all. So of course, Sakura fans will tend to ship SasuSaku/NaruSaku.

I also am a "victim" to this, except from the opposite angle. Since Naruto is my favorite character, I want to see him happy, and I don't think SS allows that. So I am probably much more accepting of NaruHina than the average NS fan. I don't "ship" it, but I wouldn't be 100% against it if it happens in the right way (which is now impossible to me now, so...).

*takes tinfoil hat off*

Nothing against writers who use this, but I don't really bother with them. People will always have preferences, and that's okay. It sucks that you spent quite a few hours with a story that ended up SS, but it happens.

Spot on, FrenchMyToast. I admit that early part one, I shipped SasuSaku--though back then it wasn't as horrid as it would turn out to be, but I was generally looking at it from Sakura's perspective. I liked Sasuke, I thought it was funny, and I wanted to see her end up happy. Though, I was also more open to the possibilities of other guys (and girls)... like Naruto. Sakura was easier to ship because I was a fan of her, and generally I didn't see her as someone difficult to opening up her heart to other people.

Oddly enough, the more I became a fan of both Naruto and Sakura, the more I started to selectively ship them. I don't like SasuSaku because Sakura wouldn't be happy and not to use the D word, but she deserves better. Not because that might be what her heart desires, but because I just can't imagine that scenario anymore and because NARUTO IS SUCH A GREAT GUY. Same with NaruHina; I don't like it because while I don't see him ultimately suffering or being unhappy (and Hinata is not as terrible as Sasuke) I don't like her--she's one dimensional, she hasn't been nearly as well-developed, I buy the whole 'selfish desire' angle of her and it would make me sad because SAKURA IS SUCH A GREAT GIRL.

When you ship your favourite characters together, it's a doozy XD Still, I can relate through roleplaying. When I roleplay Naruto, while I usually do begin with him loving Sakura (sticking to canon) I can easily ship him with Ino, Sasuke (eh), Sai, Hinata, even maybe Karin... but I need them to develop and that's usually because roleplaying, like fanfiction, creates scenarios and relationships that expand beyond the scope of the manga, so while I may not like Hinata or Karin, I can appreciate their interpretation from the writer and because I do like Naruto, I can see him taking the relationship to a level I can enjoy because it's his feelings and his perspective that I like. It's just I very strongly prefer him with Sakura and that to me is the true pairing for him. OTP

Same with Sakura; when I take her on, despite not liking Sasuke, or being particularly of other popular pairings like KakaSaku or GaaSaku, the development in the fanon work especially when I read it from her perspective, can make me like the pairing in context of the written work--be it roleplay or fanfic.

I don't know if it's because I've grown to love Naruto and Sakura as characters so much, as well as a pairing, or if I'm just weird, but this has made it especially hard for me to accept love triangles to any length. If Naruto and Sakura have the slightest smudge of a romance, no matter who the other party is (Sasuke, Ino, Hinata, etc etc) I just can't. If it's SasuSakuNaru then I feel too much for Naruto; if it's HinaNaruSaku, I feel too much for Sakura.

If it's SasuSakuKarin then Sasuke needs to get out of their and the two girls need to band together through their trials of bad relationships. Have I mentioned how much I don't like pairings with Sasuke? I really don't like pairings with Sasuke. XD

Now then, the issue of trolling is just silly, and I don't think the solution is to go and do it yourself. Fanfcition is your personal work, and as a reader you can choose to follow someone else's work, and if there's something you don't like you're welcome to write a review of why you think the problematic point (in this case the bait and switch love triangle) makes the story weak. People write all sorts of bad things, and I don't know how much of an influence certain plots are considering that fanfiction is rife with cliches, drama, and pairing nonsense as is--so if the NaruSaku writers have picked up another one of these bad habits, chances are it's because they themselves haven't grown as writers yet in order to take that and make it really good.

It is frustrating when a good fanfiction takes a turn you don't like, however, and I've read one like that I believe. I think it was a NaruSakuIno fic, where it began like NaruSaku and then deviated to NaruIno. My issue is not that NaruIno happened, but that it happened in favour of Sakura and that would make her unhappy, and if I had become invested and was rooting for their relationship already and then NOPE, NARUTO'S DEVELOPING FEELINGS FOR INO I can maybe appreciate that it's well done, but it would be difficult for me to keep reading. It's a bait-and-switch that I don't think should be encourage because it's difficult to pull off well? Plus I think it tends to be unpopular with the fans anyways.

My advice is to try and avoid those fics, and the best contribution to make to the NaruSaku fanfiction community is by making a story that's true to your own vision of the characters and relationship. Don't compromise yourself and start some sort of online trolling campaign in an attempt to right things. It rarely works, as we see on narusaku/sasusaku/naruhina tag wars.

I was thinking of trolling, but no. I just got to write a good non yaoi NaruSakuSasu fic.

I think the main problem with that "Shy Blossom" is that the NaruHina is literally forced. he's pretty much forcing himself to be with her even though he's said multiple times he still loves Sakura.

Well.... I haven't read the "Shy Blossom" story, so I won't comment on the content, but I have watched it sky-rocket in terms of reviews and just this a.m. I got on ff.net and saw another NS vs. SS fic, so uh, yeah...it's definitely popular right now.

But as a fic style, I'm not crazy about it. To keep readers from both sides pleased, the author has to be in equal parts pandering and trolling to their respective audiences. There's no other way those stories could be written. They have to give SS a boost while pushing NS under, and then vice versa.

I see them like the lemon stories, where the author promises a lemon each chapter, just to drive up reviews. It's not about writing or a plot or character consistency or anything like that — it's just about creating more and more outlandish scenarios to keep reviews going.

I don't read either of those types, the pairing war or the lemon stories, (as well as harem stories or stories where the reader asks people to vote to determine the plot or witholds chapters until a certain number of reviews are met). So the biggest drawback I see in those pairing war stories is that it generates a high review count which bumps them to the top of the list if you search by reviews.

So, if you're wanting to read a well-written story, and you've got the review filter on to search for them, then a story like that with inflated reviews pops to the top. The number of reviews doesn't reflect quality writing. It just reflects the back and forth over NS vs. SS.

To me, readers are the ones who loose out, because it skews the search for good stories.
