Hey guys, i'm starting to get into a few manga series and just reading manga overall so I was wondering which route u suggest I take Print or Digital

Digital is cheaper, saves space, the pages look better, convenient for on the go.

Print has the nostalgia affect and I would like a "collection" that is visable

What do you do? What do you recommend/prefer?

Read it online for free and if you really like the stuff buy paper volumes overtime.

^ What Striker said.

I don't really see the point in buying manga digitally as it is; if you're going to be reading it on a screen, you'd might as well just read it for free on manga sites while you're at it and save some money. If you want to support the series and own it, then buying physical volumes is the way to go.

once upon a time before i was able to use a computer on my own i used to buy manga. I bought a total of 80 manga. Each manga cost 10 dollars. Thats around 800 dollars spent on manga. I now have a small collection of manga and no real place to put it except in my closet.

Now i read all my manga online and regret so much money spent on manga.

When I buy manga, I prefer the print version for a few reasons:

  • No need to switch on a tablet/phone/PC to read.
  • You don't need to worry about losing it in the event of hard disk failure or the manga provider shutting down.
  • Books are portable, take them anywhere without worrying about batteries!
  • Having the books visible means I am more likely to pick one off the shelf and start reading on a whim, whereas I would need to dig through folders on a digital device.
  • Maybe it's just me, but books feel nicer in my hands.

Of course, I'm not against digital and I do own a Kindle.  The costs and space are definitely a consideration as well, so it's really about what works best for you.  A long-running series such as Naruto would take up a huge amount of space, most likely an entire bookcase!  The print route is best for shorter series such as Eyeshield 21 and Bakuman.

When it comes to buying manga, I'd have to say that it's best buying print versions.

Reasons:

  • Books just feel great to have in your hands.
  • They're portable, and can be taken anywhere. You wouldn't have to worry about the percentage on the electronic device.
  • Owning the print versions means that you are most likely to read them.

Of course it's really your choice, I guess if you've got like a giant shelf then you can collect as much manga as you can. Otherwise stick to the digital route, i'm not against it, but my preference will always be the print versions. regardless of the series length.

This is a great point, but at one point u did read it, so it doesnt seem like too much of a waste of money, hardly anything we buy we use everyday.

Yea I commute a lot so id like to take something that didn't rely on batteries lol. Funny u mention Bakuman cause thats one of the manga I might buy, but to me 20 volumes is still a lot, but i guess its nothing compared to something like Naruto.

You know I dont have a giant shelf and I was hoping to buy a lot of reading as well as display it.

Might have to go digital for the space, but like print for portability, feel, and ability to display.

I prefer print because....well I am old fashioned like that. Holding a "digital copy" is not really the same as hold an actual copy. It is like digital game downloads. Sure I can get it online much cheaper, but I still don't have the actual disk in my procession.

lol I make the comparison to an engagement ring. If I propose to a girl would it better to give her a picture of a ring through an email or buy the actual ring and slip it on her finger?

Read it online. Translation seems to be better at times. What is the point in collecting if its going to be digital anyway; youre gonna pay for something that is already free on the internet
