Gotta say it: Are you sure it was a rerun? He dies so many times it's hard to tell the difference.

:lmao:

Yes, it was a rerun. Unless there was ANOTHER Second Budokai Tenkaichi Tournament after which Krilin was murdered by the same Piccolo Sr.'s servant Goku had already disintegrated, and nobody informed me.

Well OP takes quite a lot of time to be really good. Before the crew enters the Grand Line, I could say its just an above average manga/anime. Suddenly a strong person from the Grand Line trashed a member of the crew and we get to see that the enemies the crew has faced all this while pales in comparison to the people in the Grand Line, which is the crew's destination. Its like a taste of things to come and personally that point was where my interest for OP skyrocketed. And I wasn't disappointed once the crew entered GL because the story keeps getting better and better.

Point is, if you don't have the patience or time to invest in a long story, then OP is not for you. But if you do and want to follow the Strawhat crew along their adventure into a big, vast and rich world Oda has created (which takes a lot of time to explore hence its long running) then hop aboard their ship and sail to the Grand Line.

You know, I have heard many OP fans telling that. That the story takes a while but once it gets going it is really good.

Also, if you think the art is "cruddy", then that's unfortunate. If you really can't enjoy the story because of the art then there's no point forcing it but personally I think you're missing out.

Er... Nate was the one did the "cruddy art" comment, not me. And I do not know if he was talking about OP or DB.

Regardless, I agree with your comment. Often I read classic manga, and I enjoy the clean, cinematic, cartoony art Tezuka, Ishinomori, Yokoyama... used, in spite of many younger fans would call it "outdated and ugly". I also think if someone refuses giving a chance a story because the art it is his/her choice but that person may be missing out something good. It being different does not mean it is bad.

An One Piece fan out of nowhere and for absolutely no reason decided lambasting Dragon Ball to try to prove One Piece is better/more popular/whatever.

Sorry. I'll target something thatI see further down the popularity pole next time. That will get my point across. Like I said. Dragonball is the lead dog that has been surpassed. Not saying Dragonball isn't absolutely amazing, but if Dragonball came out today, it would (in my opinion) not get as big as Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, or Fairy Tail. The competition of the others would drive it under. Yes, it would get a lot of views, and the fighting would be even more epic to see, but it's plot isn't good enough (IN MY OPINION) to succeed over those previous animes I mentioned. Thing is, only One Piece popularity has surpassed it (sticking to my belief that popularity comes a lot from just sales). Maybe Fairy Tail and Naruto will too someday. As for now. In my opinion, One Piece is the greatest of all time anime, and Naruto is my favorite anime.

Sorry. I'll target something thatI see further down the popularity pole next time. That will get my point across.

No, that will not get your point across.

NOT targetting anything WILL get your point across.

Neither of those series has a plot that is something to write home about.

And I reiterate, having a better plot that DB does NOT mean your plot is good. Smelling better than crap does not mean you smell fine.

Competition? WHAT competition? Even you are admiting Naruto, Bleach and Fairy Tail are less popular than DB (and Bleach popularity is actually sinking down). So why would they eclipse DB when it was in the height of its popularity?

Their plots are better, you tell? There were series with a much better plot than DB back then. There are series with a way better plot than OP, Bleach, Naruto or FT nowadays. Still those series are less famous, so it is evident quality storytelling or plotting is irrelevant to become popular.

And again you talk about completely hypotetical and unproveable situations might or might not have happened in some given situation to try to prove something can not and need not be proven. Do you think OP is the best thing ever? Alright. But you do not need "prove" it, and you certainly do not need try and bring down other series to achieve that.

Sigh. Look, I actually understand you. I understand you. Back when I was a kid I would also have defended Dragon Ball (or Captain Tsubasa. Or Ninja Turtles. Or Sailor Moon. Or Saint Seiya...) to death. And I would have felt hurt if someone would have criticized it. But time passes, passion goes away and stops clouding your judgement, and you realize and accept your favorite stuff is actually flawed. It can be still decent, it can even be great, you can still enjoy it greatly, but the best of all time? Not even close. Neither -or almost neither- of my favorite mangas are what I would call "Best of all time" material.

And I am afraid that is exactly what you will think about OP several years from now, not matter how passionately you defend it nowadays.

I said "in my opinion" for a reason. Is there a problem with thinking Bleach is really good? No. Sure it's popularity has gone down... a lot, but I still love it and think it has gotten better. For now One Piece has become the best anime. Someday even it will be passed. It's life man. If you don't agree with me, whatever. We're just stating our own opinions that are pointless to each others ears. Not even a real debate anymore, and this thread wasn't made for this. Was made to celebrate One Piece. So I said it's popularity surpassed the former most popular anime by a good bit for an anime not even close to finished.

I feel kind of bad for 4kids just how many times have they kittened up now?

They tried to dub One Piece and....failed

they tried to make a more kid friendly Batman version of Batman TAS and....failed

and they lost the rights to one of their most popular shows (pokemon)

Still I prefer the 4kids cast over whoever the kitten is dubbing pokemon now.

all in all thank god for funimation they are what made DBZ and YYH so awesome imo

I'm not sure, I didn't know 4Kids had the rights to a Batman cartoon. However whenever I personally think of a kid friendly batman I think of Batman the Brave and the Bold.

From what I've seen it's a cool show, my son liked it. It's like they got old school batman and had him interact with other DC characters, and then there were special guests like Scooby Doo who would come in and help. Kinda like how they did back in the day with Scooby doo and Friends. They were always meeting random ppl like the three stooges Batman and the Adams family. It really made me think of when Adam West was the caped crusader. Like with the Bam! Punch! Wack! Sound bubbles that appeared during fights XD

Maybe they're referring to The Batman? I remember finding the Joker design ridiculous.

Hmm I don't know I always thought The Batman was pretty dark.  No wait I just re read the post because my kids were asking for stuff the first time I read it and I didn't read it correctly. It seems they're referring to Batman the animated series!

they tried to make a more kid friendly Batman version of Batman TAS and....failed

Wait What!?! You honestly thought that that was a failure?! Personally I feel it is the best out of all the Batman's turned to cartoons! I mean come on the beginning open is breath taking still to this day. Oh and I never knew 4Kids touched that series, I don't even know they were around back then. It was the Kids WB that released it. Unless there is another Batman animated series you are referring too.

I can not talk about the creativity of One Piece, although the few chapters I have watched did not seem so creative to me... like in "original" (it was nothing I had not seen before). If we mean creative like in "weird", sure (not that it is necessarily a bad thing, mind you).

To be fair, DB was not like that. It was imagination and aventure. DBZ, on the other hand... your summary is quite accurate if we apply it to adult Goku's adventures. It is sad seeing how the series became so stale and repetitive.

Anyway, we are disgressing here. One Piece has got mainstream acknowledgement. Good for it and for its creator.

Edit: A very exact and concise summary, Nate.

That's not entirely true.Once you get further into One Piece you realize that it is completely creaTive(if I can phrase it like that). It's villAins, heroeS and storylines simply own when it cOmes to creativity.Although mAybe I'm confusing creativiTy with unpredictability.Although it's abUndant in botH.
