A Chinese teenager sent to an internet addiction rehabilitation camp has allegedly been beaten to death by its counsellors, according to reports.

Ok whut? This "rehabilitation camp" sounds more like a prison than anything. They have solitary confinement and are allowed to be punished? What kind of behavior would an addiction to the internet cause that would justify punishment?
China is a scarey place to be a kid... I think I've

I've heard of these so called rehab centers.... makes me glad I'm not in China, but from Taiwan. We still have the same kids addicted to internet games and whatnot, but our policies don't include killing a kid because he's addicted. =/

Hell, we don't even have these game rehab centers. The Chinese government is a harsh one, which is why they limit internet, and they've banned a lot of internet games.

Trust me, don't ask, don't tell.

There's only so much I know of the Chinese government, but the secret police corps, the 'Guoanbu' are the ones that keep a lot of information under wraps. A lot of it is just... =/

No, an addiction is an addiction.

I don't agree with what they do, but it's a foreign government, you can't exactly walk into their country and tell them to change.

Ahem. I do remember that, even though I was a baby back then,... but I never ever heard the Chinese promotes the death penalty for someone being on the Internet 24/7.

China has done well in respects to economic growth, but it still has a way to go in terms of social development. Hopefully now that is having a more political connection with Western nations it can improve in terms of human rights and liberties. It can be only so long before the government can push a society's end before they start to rebel. Unless of course this is an acceptable norm (since Eastern countries tend to be very strict with discipline) then no one outside of China would really see it as a big deal and it'll pass over until you get a huge incident such as Tiananmen Square.

Not to mention all of the censorship issues, that were really showcased to the world before and after the Olympics. China has always been *extreme*, Derry tongue.gif
