It's getting close to the time for the next Heaven & Earth Fanfiction/Fanart Contest and we would like to have a variety of banners to put on the front page in the announcement box to keep people's attention on the contest because it can sorta slide to the background during the submissions period.

Rather than have the rest of the mods and I attempt to make them, we thought we'd get better results by asking you guys.

Although we don't have all the keywords down yet, the contest's theme is going to be for Valentine's Day. All banners should be no larger than 500 x 300250.

Since I've been sort of sparing with the details, feel free to ask whatever questions you have and we'll try and answer them as best as we can.

Digital or traditional style? Any artstyle not wanted (chibi, bishies, realism...)? When do you want'em?

I don't discriminate between styles or the mode of creation as long as the output is digital and we can stick it on our front page. (So standard rules. No nudity, profanity, etc.)

The voting on keywords will begin on the 12th so I'd like to have at least one banner by then. (In a worst case scenario, I guess that I could try making one from anime clips or something.

The contest will be running through Valentine's Day so we'll probably be taking banners until then, but the later that they're submitted, the shorter the window of time that they'll be able to be posted.

Also ... and I'm not 100% determined on this ... but any banners will not be allowed as submissions for the fanart part of the contest because it'll give them extra publicity.

Have a preferred file format, Nick? Or size for that matter?
Personally, I'd like to try to animate one, but it could be a kick in the teeth for 56k'ers (including me, haha)

Size can't exceed 500 x 300, I'mnot sure for the file thing though. =/

PNGs, GIFs, JPGs and JPEGS are all fine. I think that a TIF or BMP are generally a bit large for webstuff.

And we probably want to keep the file size fairly small, for those not on broadband. I was using the signature rules as a baseline, but we can probably go up to 500K since people will only have to download it once.

The contest runs through Valentine's Day so that's the absolute latest deadline. After that, we won't be posting a banner so if it's in really late, it's not going to have much time on the page.

But I'd like to be getting them around December 12.

And they should mention the contest itself. I can stick the announcement text above or below it, but it'll get more attention in the banner.

And just to confirm an earlier statement of mine, any fanarts that are used in banners can't also be used in the contest. We're concerned that it would be an unfair advantage over fanarts that aren't turned into banners.

Hmm. That banner size may be a bit too noticeable. I think that I'd prefer future banners to be 250 pixels or maybe even just 200 pixels high.

Don't worry about trying to fix existing ones unless you feel like it.
