Actually, that is to say that with all of Oro's jeering and the basic common sense that one's body deteriorates with age, it's apparent that Sarutobi was a great deal stronger when he was Yondaime's age. He was an old man, and he was still enough to nearly kill Orochimaru, as well as kill the first 2 Hokages at the same time. Oro was also in the body of a young man, so he hasn't lost anything with age anyway. And Oro was stronger than Yondaime. That was partially the reason that Oro was so upset and surprised when Sarutobi named Yondaime his successor instead of him.

Where was it stated that Orochimaru was stronger than the Yondaime?

Not explicitly stated, but inferred in the flashback when Sandaime explained to Oro why he chose Yondaime as his successor.

Look, noone is doubting that Yondaime was tough. But he's not a sannin. He was taught by one of them (Jiraiya) but it was never stated that he surpassed them. Just like it wasn't until the final battle between Oro and Sandaime that it was apparent Oro had surpassed Sandaime. And Sarutobi STILL had the last laugh.

And maybe 4th tail Kyuubi Naruto can beat anyone in the series, but when he was fighting Haku? PLEASE. There are SO many ppl that could still trash Naruto at that stage it's ridiculous.

I thought it was stated that Orochimaru wasn't chosen because of his crazy ideas he wanted to accomplish. I believe it was around episode 72 where they had the flashback.

The Yondaime was so pupular because of his Hiraishin no jutsu and he was a master sealer. Even Jiraiya admired the seal that he used to seal the kyuubi, which is still on Naruto. The Yondaime may not have been as physically strong as Sandaime and maybe even Orichimaru and Jiraiya, but let's face it, he's known as being a genius. More often than not, it seems that brains overpowers brawns. He could probably outstmart almost all of his opponents without even breaking a sweat. That's why the Yondaime is so legendary.

I bet Naruto will surpass the Yondamie, because he was only bout at 1/2 Kyubi power, and Oro said it could kill him. If Naruto reached full Kyubi power, he would kill Oro bring back Sasuke, get Sakura and become Hokage all with the bat of an eye.

Uhh... he's legendary because he's a Hokage. They're ALL legendary. And because he gave his life to seal kyuubi. And his hiraishin made him famous as the Yellow Flash, though not quite legendary. Considering the guy showed up only in Kakashi Gaiden, and it wasn't even about him, people seem to take a lot of creative liberties with Yondaime. Considering we've only seen evidence of ONE of his seals, I'd hardly say that qualifies anyone to call him a 'master sealer'.

And Jiraiya understood Yondaime's intentions looking at Naruto's seal, not marveling at it like he couldn't do it or anything.

Furthermore, there are too many 'geniuses' in Naruto for that to give him a one-up on most people. Neji's a genius, Sasuke's a genius, Rock Lee's a genius, Shikamaru's a genius, Kakashi's a genius, Sandaime's a genius, Orochimaru's a genius... you get the point.

And it seems to me that he doesn't 'outsmart' his opponents either. In the couple of times we've seen him fight, his killer tactic has just been to close in and kill the opponent before he has time to react. That's based on speed, not smarts.

I think it's because he created a jutsu like the Hiraishin is why people place him above the other Hokages.

The Shodai can manipulate wood, and built Konoha.
The Nidaime can use water jutsu's without any nearby water source, and was related to the Shodai.
The Sandaime trained the Sannin and knew a LOT of jutsu's, thus earning him the name "The Professor."
The Yondaime was known as the hero of the 3rd great shinobi war, created jutsu that made you move at the speed of light, and defeated the strongest of the bijuu by sealing it inside Naruto.
The Godaime is one of the Sannin and one of the best, if not best, medics in the world.

I think Tsunade has favoritism going on with Naruto. She won't even send ANBU out to get Orochimaru, yet she's letting a Genin and a Chuunin (Sakura) go out and try to catch Sasuke and stop Orochimaru? It just doesn't seem very logical at all.

Well, after all Sakura is Tsunade's student and even though Naruto is Genin, he has the strengh of, at least, a Chuunin.

i disagree, im betting naruto is stronger than some of the jounin in konoha, i mean after all kakashi even said that he will be the one to exceed the 4th, and the 4th was the strongest ninja that konoha ever had...

WHY do you think that Yondaime was the strongest of the leaf? He's NOT, you know. Sandaime was. That why Sandaime's called the professor. Naruto is high-chuunin level. Probably about the power level as a rookie jounin (like Neji), but is lacking in other aspects necessary to make a good jounin.

yondiame is the strongest, it was stated in one of the episodes, the number of jutsu's u learn doesnt determine your strength, it is your ability in battle that affects the outcome of the fight, even though you might be better off if you know alot of jutsu but it all comes down to ability in the end... and i highly doubt sandaime was the strongest, yes he fought off 2 resureccted hokages and orochimaru but he wasnt able to completely use the soul sealing techinique on orochimaru, and yondaime was able to fully use it against the kyuubi AND seal his power inside an infant.....

and if u remeber correctly when orochimaru used the forbidden jutsu, sarutobi said something like "that third coffin must be stopped at all cost..." if the first coffin was the shodaime and the second was nidaime, the third would obviously be yondaime, implying that he was the strongest hokage and that sarutobi wouldnt be able to counter him............
