#876677 Fear the Walking Dead

Posted by chouzu_tao on 15 September 2015 - 10:41 PM

But it's not even that they're too weak. It's that they're stupid. Who casually saunters to the car after and gives their parents attitude for wanting them to hustle after they saw a zombie the night before? Who wanders away in the dark after having just witnessed their neighbor attacking another neighbor's family? They're not weak. They're stupid and annoying. I don't like any one in the core family. Who leaves the door open? Even if there wasn't a dog that appeared with blood all over it, it's just good manners and a regular thing that people do. Who turns their lights low to hide the fact that they're home but flashes a flashlight at a window when the power goes out? I'm okay with people not knowing how to handle a zombie encounter and struggling with whether or not people can come back to being alive, but a lot of the tension they tried to create in this episode are all things only someone conceited and super stuck up  or incredibly stupid and ignorant of basic survival 101 would do. Don't like the characters. Well, the Spanish speaking family is okay and interesting.

#857686 Suicide Squad (2016)

I'm psyched for the film and what it can mean to the super hero genre, but I'm gonna be honest. I was bored to death of the trailer until the Joker moment. I'm not familiar with some of these villains, but some of the scenes play them off more kindly than I anticipated. I love that each rendition of Joker we've gotten on film and tv has brought different aspect of the clown prince from the comic to life.

Romero = Clown

Nicholson = the Mobster

Ledger = the Anarchist

Leto = the Psychopath

Hamill = all of the above (being animated gives him a one up to do this)

And even though I don't have much love for the Super Mario Bros. live action film, I can't help but see this from the shot of Killer Croc:

#853526 Spiderman Renew Your Vows

I'll be honest, I'm a bit torn. I still haven't found any solid evidence as to wether or not this is canon or other verse for Secret Wars. Either way I'm not sure how I feel about the climax of this issue. Whether or not it's just a giant middle finger to those of us who wanted Peter to mature and stay with MJ, if it's just for shock value, or an honest mishandling of Peter and MJ's reunion. Truth be told though, I haven't liked Dan Slott's Spiderman in the last few years.

#846396 Jurassic World

Posted by chouzu_tao on 20 June 2015 - 06:30 PM

I loved the film. It was a lot of fun. I won't say it was better than the first, but to me, comparing these two films is like comparing apples and oranges. Both are fruit but have different tastes. Park was more of an awe-film while World is more of a Monster film. Both had dinosaurs but the feelings are completely different.

Second problem. Nothing to bring it down? Not multiple assault helicopters? They had 1 T-Rex on the entire island? Seriously? The crowd favorite... and you got 1 of them? But you want to make 2 of a new giant raptor breed you don't even know about yet? I was saying the whole time (not too loud because I was in a nearly full theater) "ok... drop like 2 or 3 T-Rexs on him and that thing won't stand a chance". Guess what? They had ONE T-REX!!! Like you got to be kidding me. It took them until the final 5 minutes of the movie to finally use the T-Rex trick (because the T-Rex was in a cage in the main park), and the T-Rex with Blue beat the crap out of it. Now imagine if you traded out Blue with another T-Rex... the movie would be 30 minutes long.

This is definitely a thing. They could've and in reality would've taken him out with the first assault helicopter. There's no way it would've outrun the shooter all he had to do was aim further ahead. But this doesn't bother me because the movie would be shorter. And who wants that?

I personally didn't find the I-Rex that great of a creature. All it's feats were shown once and completely forgotten later on. It never used camouflage again and it really wasn't that malevolent/ intelligent of a creature when actually on screen. In terms of it not being that much badder than the T-rex, unlike what martial arts/ action films would like you to think, in a fight numbers does play a factor. In this case it took two creatures to beat one. Where as flipped it would've taken just one I-Rex to beat a T-rex or Velociraptor pack.

And my third problem. Owen, his new girlfriend, and the two boys all went inside the lab and closed the doors behind them. The big guy that was ate by the random raptor. He was with with his military staff members or whatever you want to call them. You know, the guys who were collecting stuff to bring back with them. Now those guys were right there.. and after that big guy chit-chatting with Owen and his group for a few seconds raptor busted through and ate him after staring at him 20 seconds. Now first of all... where did it come from? The doors were closed. Second of all.... the military guys should of heard it. It was like a... 15 second chit-chat. Why didn't they do anything?

I think those two guys exited a different way. If memory serves me right they moved towards where Hoskins entered the room which is the opposite side our heroes and the raptor enters. The raptor probably just followed them from outside. Remember in part one they were able to use doors that latched? It's not like the doors were locked. I'll have to watch again but I feel like the talk is longer than 15 seconds. Raptors are fast.

#755180 Deathbattle: Gaara vs Toph Thoughts?

Thoughts? I think a lot of people were expecting the opposite. I actually was on board with the ending. I'll be back with more ideas.

#711627 Who has better villains? ATLA or LOK?

LoK is good but it just never amounted to the heart and soul that was Avatar: The Last Airbender.

#646819 Chapters 699 And 700 The End

Posted by chouzu_tao on 06 November 2014 - 10:45 PM

I truly wished Kishi went with the best pairing: Naruto and Sakura, but as I've said in the past, I'm not as upset as everyone about NH. I am really frickin' irked by SasuSaku and the fact that Sakura, who had grown strong, decided to just do nothing and become a housewife or is it shopkeep and you know, marry an abusive man who always wants to be left alone. WTF!

But my real issue is with everyone's ending almost being the exact same; there definitely is no satisfying closure for any of my characters... While marriage and children can be great for some, it's not everyone's goal in life. The last chapter looked like ... kind of like the end ing to Harry Potter. "And everyone got married, had kids, were fulfilled and never did anything ever again..." The ending for everyone is so empty because he set up all these other goals for our main heroes and then did nothing with them. NOTHING! They all get blanket generic endings. Naruto became Hokage but we didn't get to be there with him when he did. When the excitement of a life-goal came true. It's just... and now he's all grown up and serious and boring. All of them are portrayed this way. I know it's peaceful times for people who trained to be warriors their whole lives, but I mean Sai could've been shown as a world-class painter! Ino could have had an amazing flower shop.

Just really empty...

Other pairing wins and loses:

I was glad to see ShikaTem// ChouKarui (WTH, right? But still, go chubbies! Karui is a cutie too!)

I was sad to see Rock Lee didn't get with Tenten.

#641553 Naruto was never the main character!

Posted by chouzu_tao on 06 November 2014 - 02:46 AM

While we can't talk about a main character not being a main character without the quality of the writing, let's please not turn this into another final chapters bashing/ fretting thread. I will agree that the juxtaposition of what was accomplished by Naruto's goals vs Sasuke's goals is awful. But I disagree that Naruto lost to Sasuke this last time. He won. Sasuke couldn't continue fighting and Naruto would try to. And although it sucks that his main goal became another person instead of something bigger, he was able to 'save Sasuke and return him to Sakura'.

It's kind of like the real world. The jerks who don't care about others and go for what they want usually get it because they don't lose sight of their goals in the face of morales or people. They want to achieve their goal and don't stop no matter what or who is in their way. Sometimes being considerate can bog one down from achieving their goals or at least big ones, but it does make them a better person. It's just a matter of whether or not that's enough for the considerate person. I don't know. Shoulder shrug at downer.

Not going to lie, I think she's kind of hot... almost the lightning version of Sakura. Kudos to Chouji for landing her! :)))))) Anyone else?

Hey. Going to a wedding.

Beautiful! I can't unseen this now... Not to be presumtuous about your life style, but there is so much proof now, (if I may so) you included, that otaku really no longer all fit the physical sterotype that is the connotation of that word. Geek is chic proof.

#600838 Official The Legend of Korra thread

Posted by chouzu_tao on 11 October 2014 - 02:19 AM

Awesome episode! I love the dichotomy of Korra wanting to be able to be the Avatar, but her being afraid of what being in the Avatar state brought her. Her PST has manifested itself in the form of the Avatar state.

This is definitely a Dagobah episode, even with it's own Yoda :P.

I love that this person will be whipping her back into shape. With all her -- not self pitying, but she's definitely having a hard time being outside of herself thanks to her PST, hopefully Toph can kick her bottom into gear.

I was always curious as to how the Brava/Vahtu thing will work out. Will the Avatar become an Avatar of evil?

they will dedicate an entire episode to korra's recovery http://korraspirit.t...o-korra-and-her

That's awesome! I'm excited to see it.

yaaaaay  :D finally! lol

I literally just got into it on Wednesday and finished all 3 seasons by Thursday and watched the first episode of book 4 yesterday ^-^ I love it so much and it's so nostalgic xD Can't wait to see what's revealed this season!

Wow! Be careful, now. You were able to see the next episode of those seasons when you wanted, with book 4 you're going to have to wait a week in between. Withdrawal! :P

#595267 Official The Legend of Korra thread

Posted by chouzu_tao on 04 October 2014 - 03:54 AM

There were several season 4 trailer, looks, and interview clips for season 4 so I figured we'd just have one.

Looks like Zelda wasn't just a tag-on character at the end of last season. I do wonder though, if she was that awesome of a fighter, where was she during the Red Lotus take over? Anyway, wow. That button on the episode. Why Korra?!   :comfort:

The episode was a catch up episode so there was a lot of exposition to get out of the way and not much meat. The villain... Kuvira. I'm just seeing a re-hash of the conquering lands villain from the original series. What is most interesting, and what I'm most excited to see is Korra's development in this season, especially with the way the last two episodes ended.

While I do think they missed out on the challenges of her rehabilitation physically, I think the fallout from it, the scar, with her emotional rehabilitation will be more interesting. So I can forgive the time jump. It does look from the trailer as if they'll be re-visiting those moments in flashbacks.

The villain at the moment seems lackluster and repetitive, but it's only episode one. If the last two seasons are any indication, they kind of slow burn into an exciting series. -- But the villain for book two was evil-incarnate. How do you top beating evil? Maybe they should have saved that for last? We'll see. I should trust Konietzko and DiMartino more.

What are your thoughts?
