It seemed like it was the anime vs. the manga for me. If you watched the anime only, then it was all Hinata, all the time. Naruto had an unrequited crush on Sakura, and she was always mean to him, picking Sasuke over him. Even when Sasuke was gone. And then again...Hinata.....

 

But if you read the manga, then it was like you got an entirely different story.

 

They may have both been Naruto branded, but only one of them Kishi wrote. The anime went off on its own time and time again. Those creators shipped NH, and so they frothed up a legion of fans who wanted the same thing.

 

It's not like we were all reading the same thing and came out with a very different response/viewpoint. One group is reading, another group is primarily watching, and believes that to be the canon source.

 

You can't read the manga and come away with 'Hinata is our queen.' She simply not in there enough! lol

 

I think some of the fan issues stem from the fact that you had two very different Naruto stories out there in the world, running at the same time. One of them pushed for a different ending. And they got it!

 

You know what? I'm actually see that.

 

Over the years, I thought that certain scenes were remade because artists couldn't get the angle right or provide better flow.

 

In here, there were too many stuff that were deleted or misinterpreted. Biggest example was the events after the hospital fight scene with Naruto and Sasuke.

 

Manga: Sakura was worried so she and Naruto went out (almost like a date). They talked about Sasuke with his issue and Naruto reassures her that he would be okay. It was a little flashback while Sakura was looking out of her window which ended her smiling.

 

Anime: How cow, depression galore! Naruto was walking around town like a depressed zombie after the fight. He was about to walk pass Sakura, who was also depressed, so they eventually went out to Ichiraku together. Then when she was about to leave, Sakura was like a "deer seeing head lights" at the full moon, leading to her infamous confession scene with Sasuke.

 

You also can say the NaruSaku reunion in the beginning of Shippuden was changed too. It had similar dialogue but Tsunade wasn't there.

 

Not to mention, Part 1 had all of those fillers, that did not help Naruto and Sakura's (and Kakashi's too as he went missing in majority of them) development as main characters (except the first one) and focusing on unnecessary stuff (Hinata waterfall scene, the pointless comedic plotlines, certain character that need the spotlight were OOC). Hell, Part 2 made it worse after the Pain arc, adding more Part 1 flashbacks that wasn't even necessary.  It was a reason I stopped watching Shippuden because they added stupid stuff, like redoing Episode 3 of Team 7's formation. Really, it made Naruto worse than before. 

 

And yeah, Hinata got fans because of those fillers writers made to get Naruto's attention to her. (Need I need to say more about that infamous episode of "Sailor" Hinata, her "gorgeous" animated hair, and that damn flashback that was reused for The Last?)

 

Viewers took it, thinking it is canon and the manga followed suit. On the other hand, Hinata isn't shown that much in the manga because she wasn't a major character to begin with and fans (and people at SP) were mad that Masashi did not do anything with her (duh, obviously!). Possibly because after the stunt with Road to Ninja, SP decided to take matters to their own hands, resulting the franchise's fate.

The possible rumor that someone or some people at SP was complaining about the movie because Masashi kept changing/going back and forth with the ideas, despite the fact he's the creative consultant (not to mention owner of the franchise!)

If true, it's still very childish to act like the man isn't entitled to say if he doesn't like something when it's his series and his hard work in play.

It's like Ranma 1/2. On the one hand, you have the original manga by Rumiko Takahashi and it's characterization. Then there's the anime, which needed to create episodes for filler. It's actually been noted that Ranma has two very distinct characterizations depending on which version you're experiencing to the point the anime version is practically another character (and in many ways, opposite of the manga incarnation). Or you look at what happened with Sailor Moon and how it's characterization was tweaked in the anime. And these are not even taking into account fanfiction portrayals of characters and fanon spreading throughout the community. People mixing up characterization in one version with another, combined with stuff created by the fans to create an impression of the series that doesn't match any version. Some versions of characterization may be more prevalent (like how Ranma is typically more in the vein of his anime incarnation), but then that leads to fighting when people bring up other versions of the character.

 

Like arguing about the various incarnations of Light from Death Note, and what each one of their stories say. Because anime, manga, TV drama, Netflix and Live Action Light all have the same premise, but their stories go in different directions with their different endings saying different things.

 

In many ways...Naruto was of the last of a dying breed of anime, a positive relic by the end of it's run.

You know I was talking to an old friend from school we both loved Naruto and wanted NaruSaku to happen, but we got to talking about villains first how badly Kishi messed up with his ones trying to make them all have a tragic past.

 

We got to talking about other villains from other shows mainly the walking dead as we both love the comic and the show and unlike Kishi, it shows how real humans act like you have so many villains, and yeah it changes because once one dies another new big bad is needed.

 

I think we both agreed that Naruto would have died thanks to the first bad The Governor, and we would like to think Sakura without Sasuke would still be alive, because we know Sasuke would have got killed too.

Kakuzu and Hidan were really the last of the actual plain villains in Naruto to me. Kakuzu just doing what he does for money and Hidan for his Jashin religion, but neither having any sort of tragic past to be exploited and them simply being killed rather than redeemed.

Still angry at Masashi for not expanding the Jashin religion cult. It would've brought some interesting plots and conflicts. Not to mention the Wood Ninjas Danzo defeated when heading to the Iron Summit.

We couldn't even get an arc dedicated to the Uzumaki clan, so it's not a surprise we got nothing on the Jashin religious cult either. The series ended up being wide as an ocean and as deep as a puddle.

 

He really wrote himself into a corner if you ask me with the war arc; it just sucked any life that was left out of the series and left no time to explore anything else.

I still feel a lot of that coulda been skipped too! Or at least elaborated on. But nope! Cannot have that!

They have Sakura apologize to Naruto for how she treated him and apologize to Sasuke for having a crush and asking him on dates but don't make Naruto apologize to Sakura either or make Sasuke apologize for his behaviour. Authors be writing a 12 year old character whose actions aren't THAT deep enough for her to apologize. She's a kid so write her like one.

They rarely saw the characters as children, and they hated Sakura too much to care.

 

Millennials that grew up watching Naruto when they were young often grew to have a vindictive personality. It is why Naruto wasn't a story of a boy climbing to the top through hard work to them, but a oppressed boy that gains power to get back at his oppressors. When they see someone commit a "sin" they demand punishment to be meted out (often in-story being brutally killed), and even if they change they demand constant public penance. So, Sakura must constantly apologize on her hands and knees for not loving Naruto from the second she met him, for ever looking at Sasuke, and for being desired by the man Hinata desired. 

 

Granted I do actually see Sakura doing that on some level...but that's more due to her self-deprecation personality she always had. After the forehead comment truth comes out. I see her beating herself up about not realizing it sooner, how foolish she was, and so on. The thing is Naruto would instantly forgive her once she aired it out, then try to cheer her up at the same time, and Sasuke would brush it off.

 

Not sure what fan fic you read but I'm guess they are more constant with self-flagellation from Sakura and beating over the head with how grave a sin she committed at best...worse. Let's not get into it.

For how much of a bad rap Boruto gets it would be the accomplishment of the century if its ending was worse than Naruto's. The Last is still the low point if you ask me.

Boruto as a whole already reads like a middle-schooler's first poor attempt at writing a Naruto fanfic, so I have no doubt in my mind that the ending will be just as contrived and unremarkable as its predecessor's.
