U.S. Military Intelligence has confirmed that the plane was shot down by a SAM missile, it is unknown who fired it, but there are signs that it was fired by Pro-Russian rebels.

At this point, it doesn't seem to be an accident. It was shot from the air. Now, what it was doing traveling through a known combat zone where Ukrainian cargo jets had already been gunned down is another matter.

Should have had the MSNBC version. Some guy called in and said it was struck by a blast of air from Howard's Stern's ass (he claimed he was an eyewitness and Staff Sergent to get on the air). When she asked about the weapon system (no idea what she thought she heard) he called the anchor a dumbass.

Heard about that prank call. I think it happened after I posted.

It appears that it was the rebel group who shot it down, earlier a member of said group tweeted that they had shot down a Ukrainian Cargo plane and also gave the location it was when they fired the missile and where it landed, the locations given matched perfectly with the 777's location and crash sight, (said tweet has since been deleted).

Not just that but they have been seen in possession of the type of weapon believed to be used. They deny they have it, but supposedly there is photographic evidence that did at least as of two weeks ago.

Putin blamed the Ukrainians, but for resuming military actions. I did not hear him actually claim they shot down the aircraft.

it's a bit surprising that in this modern time there's still wars everywhere..

 

shooting down refugees from Ukraine.... i didn't realize things were this bad

 

and others shoot down planes.. (2 planes from Ukraine were shot down before mh17) and are so barbaric as to boast about it on twitter......

 

maybe i'm just too used in this peacetime period :(

Both sides are tainted to begin with.
To start, we should recap the whole Ukranian conflict, it start with several protests, then the former president negotiated with the protestors, they came back home after the president made promises that reforms to join the EU would take place and the next elections was just a year later.
THen suddenly mysterious snipers started shooting at the protestors.
Until to this day they were never identified and arrested.
During the maiden several police officers were burn with cocktail molotovs so it's hard to see who's correct on this whole, there's no good sides.

But i agree they should have fly over that conflictuos zone when the rebels are in possession of advanced weaponry, and SAM batteries.

Um, yeah. Except for the fact that witnesses saw the bodies falling from the airplane while it was falling from the sky.

And here I am, who just booked flights with them, but feel really sad for this company that I can't bring myself to cancel my flights.

Careful with the joke, there is few that comes from there within here, and it is indeed a time of sadness. And just not long since the disappearance of MH370. A very tough trial especially for the company and the country

They've lost 40% of their value in just 6 months dunno what will happen after this accident.
They're on serious financial problem.

I just think this is an accident and it's their fault(company) really, i dont see how Putin nor the rebels would gain by shooting down a civilian airplane, most important when it's a zone of conflict and rebels possess SAM batteries and suffer airstrakes occasionally by Ukraine makes no sense for me to the plane travel in that zone unless the company wanted to save fuel.
