Captain Kris' Past-
An Empire's Fall...A Father's Death:
"WHERE'S OUR DADDY!?" I shouted up at the stupid nurse-ladies, who were like a great wall blocking our way into our parents room. They looked down and I could tell they were hiding something. I looked over at my brothers who were as mad as me, but they weren't crying as much. I sniffled and rubbed my eyes, angry that I was crying way more than my brothers.
"Let us through!"

"Yeah! We wanna see our daddy!"

They shouted just as loud as me though. I made tiny fists and started hitting the nurse-ladies legs, before my brothers started doing the same. I was a little smaller so when I hit one of their shins they bent over to rub their boo-boo and I took my chance and squeezed past their legs, into my daddy and mommy's big royal room. My big brothers followed me and I heard gasps and shouts as the grown-ups tried to stop us, but we were too fast as we weaved through and made it to my daddy...

...who was in his bed.

"D-Daddy?" I was scared. There was blood everywhere-- in the mattress, on the sheets, and coming out of my daddy's bandages. I reached up and waved my arms to be picked up, as my big brothers climbed on the bed and sat close to his side, my mommy stood beside the bed. She was crying too.

"Heh... h-hey there, k-kiddo." Daddy wasn't talking so good, as he bent over, which made the nurses and doctors gasp, but my daddy didn't care as he picked me up and I saw him squeeze his face and hiss through his teeth. He laid back and I stood in his arms as he laid against the headboard, "D-daddy, why are you bleeding so much?"

"H-heh don't worry, sweetheart; daddy's fine! H-He just had ... an accide... *cough* an accident." He kept on breathing slow and hard, and he coughed alot. I was really scared. "L-listen K-Kristin... kiddo, I want y-you..to..be strong okay? I n-need y-you... to be a.... g-good girl ....for... *cough* your...brothers and..mommy okay?" I saw blood dribble out of his mouth and I nodded, before putting my little hands on his big chest. "O-okay daddy, but w-w-why daddy!? Y-You'll b-b-be there won't you?!"

"Heh... I'll be there ...*cough* always, for all of y-you..." He gasped out before rubbing my brother's heads and telling them to take care of me and mommy. I bit my bottom lip, trying to stop crying and be a strong girl, as I saw our mommy lean over and kiss him hard, and then putting her forehead to his forehead. "D-don't c-cry... I l-love y-you all...."

And then he went to sleep.

"Daddy?...Daddy?! DADDY!?" I screamed as I shook him hard, he was like a statue, "Y-YOU LIED!!! Y-YOU SAID Y-YOU'D BE HERE TO TELL ME TO BE A G-GOOD GIRL! Y-YOU--" I looked down and saw my big brother's, who weren't afraid of alot of things, crying with their faces in their hands...

To be or not to be?

Her teasing smirk ever so slowly grew on her face and without another doubt, without another thought-- I knew what she was thinking.

My eyes widened as she tilted right, flinging her arm around and with the slightest of pressure from her calloused but deadly finger-- her trigger was pushed, her bullet was bent.

Ya know when you're on a high? When the adrenaline pumping through your veins just has your brain go dead for a couple of seconds? And in that time, isn't there always a decision, a kittening choice you have to make? Then there's that fact, that damn fact that if you don't make up your mind, you'll miss an opportunity to just, do something right for once? Yeah... been there.

It felt like I was underwater, like instead of time stopping or slowing, it felt like my body, her body, her bullet, and the revolver she tossed my way ebbed slowly through a crap load of H2O-- it felt kittening awesome.

Gritting my teeth, I didn't care about the code, about what I had claimed that whole time-- what I had learned through sweat, tears, and a kittenload of blood. kitten Sloan, that bastard had done this, had started all this kitten-- now my dad's dead, I'm not, and that woman, that damn woman (I had to, no, I needed to know why was it 'fox?') that showed up in my life, literally stole my identity, beat the crap out of it, and built me as I was now-- was about to be dead.

The bullet tore through each head leaving it's bloody red trail spiraling around the room, intent on reaching it's final hit.

kitten that.

Shifting my weight on my left side, I kicked out with my right leg using the momentum to slowly spin. I grinded my teeth, sweat slicked off my lashes as I shot out my right arm, shot out my right hand to Fox's revolver-- taking it, cocking it, grasping it-- I glanced up, catching that grin (oh man, those lips), as if she was saying all sorts of things, things that I couldn't understand or wasn't able to, or just wasn't ready to. I threw her back one of my own, probably one like that retarded grin I had had after she kissed me (god, those lips) in my cheating girlfriend and kittenbag best friend's apartment? Who knows.

Her eyes widened and her grin faltered. No doubt she knew (she always did).

Fate huh? I think Fate's telling me something right about now, that it would be pretty kittening pissed--

Her bullet swung around and streaked closer to her head, inches, seconds from the side of her crown.

--But really? I don't give a kitten.

I clenched my teeth, stiffened my arm, swung my wrist and let my own bullet bend. Flying, screeching, tearing through the air--in front of her face (like before, just like before), and towards her bullet.

She's gonna kick my ass for this.

They collided (weirdly, it was kind of sexy-- if you think about it) and fell down, down, down and landed. Bodies fell, one by one, but the only thing I heard was the oh-so familiar delicious sound of the smashed bullets hitting the floor and trains, a rush of trains (remember that one time?) in my ears, in my head, all around me.

She's so gonna kick my ass for this.

Our eyes locked. She breathed out and I breathed in. Out and in, out and in, out and--

Damn, I can't wait.

Haiku: So you should go see Wanted. It came out on DVD on my birthday. That's enough reason why.
December second,
assassins on screen came out.
Buy it, watch it--now.

Haiku: So my sister bought Japanese Sakura -scented body stuff....and she hasn't used it. xDDDDDDDD

Sparks, surprising and warm, frightening.

Unhinged dirty teen, standing there

What's she got there, you ask?

What's she got there, you cry?

"This Old Fashioned Rendezvous"
Accompanied by Miles Davis, Blue in Green

It's gonna be just another one of those nights, I mused.

The soft sounds from the band not too far from where I sat slowly floated throughout the joint, like every other night like this. Light and airy, the jazz whispers slowly, melting the troubles from strangers shoulders, making the poison sitting in individual glasses taste just alittle bit better-- just for another night.

I myself relaxed not too far off, a knee crossed over a knee, nursing my own shot glass, one Old Fashioned. You know, most of the time, I preferred it that way. Simple, all simple and just a tiny bit complicated, but barely. Always sweet. Familiar. I took another sip and the whiskey made it's way down and did it's job, warming my insides just right. Always right.

It had been his favorite, you know.

Well it had been until I had "borrowed' it from him and after that he decided to just stay with the gin and tonic. Gin and tonic. Heh, kind of ironic his choice. He'd always have something to say about gin and tonic, especially when I had a glass half full of it sitting snug against my hand. I forget why, right now, but I guess it doesn't really matter. Gin and tonic being traded with an Old Fashioned was over now, past-tense and all. I took another sip and everything was really oh-so good again. The band in the corner had called out their trumpet player, a guy who really knew his stuff, who played with a mute and did he ever. That brass mute was like nothing had ever changed, always the same, always always.

The door jingled as I took another sip -- the icy spice rolled around my tongue before trailing down my spine and hitting home. I didn't look up to see who it was. By now I always knew, always anticipated how everything went. Most nights it was always easy to do so. The soft sounds of the rain would always pelt gently against the empty concrete streets just outside, a little rumble of the thunder too -- nothing bad, all cool, relaxed -- the band playing old favorites all night, but what felt for days. Then always soft murmurings of strangers and sometimes just the clinking of rocks in glasses.

The chair across from me would slowly slide away and back, but with an added weight, and long legs would cross in some way or another. Arms would do something not unlike. All power, all confidence and nothing to gain.

It'd be quiet then, aside from my sips here and there. He'd just stare and I'd just sip, and for some reason the taste would get imperceptibly better, just abit. And like clockwork, his order for a drink would be sent. I'd glance and there he was, black and white and a loosened tie, broad shoulders, hands reaching for a light. Damp hair, hat tipped, 5 'oclock, all green-blue and all of him just so... familiar. I would look away after getting a taste but I knew, oh did I know he knew I was tasting. He'd let me though. No teasing, no calling me out, just letting me have something small like that, just like how I'd let him. I'd sip for him and he'd light one up for me. Give and take, take and give -- all's fair as they say.

The rain would barely be noise and the piano would be slinking out note by note by now while his drink would come and with it my refill, like always, he knew. And then the taste of his light would've sunk into my jacket and hair and lips and it was just so good, he also knew this. Always just so... right. I couldn't stop from taking that first sip of my second glass to come down from where I was headed. Somewhere that was never an option on these nights, these nights I'd need it to be anything but -- rarely anything else.

I traced the edge of my glass and he'd watch my finger. I'd slow it down just for him. He'd never falter and a corner of these painted lips would lift. Never to disappoint, this one. But like always, I'd have to take another hit down and he'd take up the lead to start down his own. I always would guess it was for his own good, moreso than mine. But I wasn't ever sure.

The sax player would join too by now, making the background noise all too sweet, all too warm and the taste that crawled down my spine would sear just a little bit more. We'd both know by now that there wasn't a sweeter feeling, but then we'd both have to backtrack and recall something else, something so much more, and square one would be where we were. Our mutual current residence, like always. That place was all too familiar for me.

Time would pass and pass, the place'd be clearing out save for me and you, and you'd finish your first light and go for another and I'd always get you then, saving you the trouble. Clicking it open, lifting it slowly and not moving, and that's when we'd first really look. Holding gazes well after your light was well off. Another click and my hand was gone, like my eyes but they'd linger, no doubt. Yours would always stay though -- always stay, never pulling back when I did, even after. And just like that I knew familiarity was what we were best at.

A couple of minutes would melt by, but I really didn't know. It was the caress from the band that created a kind of haze. It would provide an outlet for what we both wanted by then. I'd shift my legs and look across the soft orange glow of the place, not really lingering at anything interesting, just passing the time. My guess is you'd be leaning back with those eyes closed, that all too familiar smirk on that face. The way your jaw would clench and unclench as you got your fill from your light -- you'd told me that it was because I set it off for you, because of me you'd do it. I really didn't care, is what I told you. You'd never know though, in truth, I got as much of a fill from it as you did. But again, you'd never know.

Another sip and another drag and another minute would crawl by. We'd both shift and let the sensations caress as they did, without a beat of hesitation. We both had come into this expecting nothing and we'd both come into this knowing everything. We'd both leave with our pockets even deeper but our tastes quenched, our tastes satiated long enough to last. Something that I'd really prefer not to question, going with it either way.

I'd lick my painted lips and swallow what was left in my glass and probably glance over, not really surprised at how you were already there waiting for me.

"Ya ready?"

And as always, "Not enough to say I am," I'd reply softly, not sad or sorry but expectingly smug, "...nope."

And you, never to disappoint would reply with a chuckle, deep and vibrating like a drum -- the way I liked, "I know, no harm in askin' is there?"

The question would hang in the air like that, always like that since we both didn't really know the answer -- or want to -- and then you'd sigh in that husky way I liked, skid your chair back and slink up. I'd lean back, crossing my legs letting the red silk slowly slide in that way you liked, and catch your gaze again. No words wasted, just the band finishing up that number we'd always end this on but always let fill the gap in the air. Seconds would tick by and finally, mutually, two smiles stretch slowly. They'd promise broken promises, promise unfilled wishes to come and always, always would share something else. And finally, two smiles would say goodnight and just like that, our world shifted, and you'd shuffle back into that dark morning rain, lingering just alittle and then disappearing and I couldn't agree more, love. The rain was nice that night. The band was like every night, all so good. The drinks did their job, safe to say, toxic at it's absolute best, compliments deserved.

My gaze fell across my table and the grin that worked its way up was no surprise to me. And probably neither to you. All to familiar, all to real, and really you just didn't disappoint, did ya? I reached across the table, slid back, and tipped back the gin and tonic you left behind. My lips lingered just alittle too long and oh, just alittle too right.

It's really been just one of those nights.
