So my first thought on seeing Gai's dad was that it looked like Sage Jiraiya cosplaying Gai. 

 

Kishi's format has gotten stale for me. Besides being locked into a warfare story-telling arc (struggle->failure->insert new character->struggle->victory->enemy gets powerup->startover), I really don't like flashback/character death formula.

 

Maybe I would feel more sympathy if it wasn't so expected. But this has happened over and over again. And it's a shame that Gai is getting this treatment as he is one of the big characters of the story. It would have been nice to have been weaving his story through the war arc and steadily building to this. Not just boom, flashback, and heeere's Gai!

 

Anyway, caught the tie in to Naruto with "oldest genin" remark. I can only guess this will come back in the end. Some two fodder nins saying they aren't very good, but that if Naruto can be only a genin and become Hokage then they can too. (That's right, sport, as long as you're a jinchuriki, you can do it too!)

 

So, there's a pretty big theme of fatherless children in this manga. Both Gai and Kakashi. Neji, Naruto, Kiba, Sasuke. Gaara, for all intents and purposes. (If you know your dad is trying to kill you....then yeah, you get a pass. It's pretty much the same thing.) And now, Ino and Shikamaru.

 

Only Hinata, Sakura and Nine-Nine.... No wait, Eight-Eight.... No...Ten-Ten! That's right! Forgot her name! Her family is still intact, right? Wait, is she still in this manga?!

Me too this battle is dragging too long and it's boring, the villain doesnt have a strong motivation and it just get worse.

There's no moral conflicts or a ninja way being discussed but rather a guy that could not handle his brother dead and it's talking bs.

Eh... It was okay. I understand why we had the flashbacks but I just want the story to be continued.

So I guess this volume will mainly be about Gai.. I just hope the next chapters will be better.

I found Dai to be a very endearing character. That's what I like about Kishi. He's really good at making people care about his characters. 

 

The saddest part about this chapter is the fact that Gai will most likely die though.

Hey, when given a choice between this and more Team Not Seven, I know what I'd rather see. So, it's at least not last week.

Otherwise, I agree. For a character who has made as appearances he has it could (and should) have started as far back as the Chunnin exams and been brought in as the story progressed.

I'm not wild about Lee, Gai, and Dai basically being carbon copies of each other. I like Lee and Gai, but it, like rushed nature of the flashback, comes across as a bit lazy.

I thought the chapter was decent in that I like the overall content, but the presentation could have been better a lot better than it was.

You know after reading this chapter again, I have to say it's an ok chapter. It's still boring, it's still not want I wanted it to be. But it works. I'm just pissed that this war ark and I'm calling the entire war an ark even though it had mini arks in it. The war started in what chapter 515? Around those chapters and it's still not over. He still have about 40-50 chapters until it comes to an end, hopefully less. So that's what? About give or take 200 chapters. That's insane.

Oh, and I love that fan art of Gai in Mangastream's third page. He really looks like Bruce Lee. (appropriate for him because he's a cartoonish Bruce Lee in the manga)

I'm confused, is everyone saying this will be a Gai volume? How? That's like saying once Kisame trying to escape, it's automatically a Gai volume. Rushed much? In case you haven't noticed, the next attack is it, right? Unless Kishi wants to expose his attack all 17x8 pages, that's actually funny that you would think this. Plus, once he stops, that's it. Bye Bye. I'm surprised no one said "It's going to be Bijuus vs. Madara" volume long time ago, so what's up? I think we losing ourselves. I should go and shoot mechs now. Excuse me.

Chapter 668: The Beginning of the Red Spring
I expected Gai to use the Final Gate, but instead we get boring flashbacks with him and his father. He could have showed this earlier...
Kishimoto, always connected to the past...A bit too much!
At least we get to see who is Gai's father...Might Dai.
Rember Raiga, one of the members of the Seven Shinobi Swordsmen? Well, he makes his debut in manga (he only appeared in Anime). And it's not only Raiga cuz another Seven Shinobi Swordsmen member makes his debut, but we don't know his name...

I'm just glad the plot moves forward at times.

We get periods of things being long and dragged out and other times like last chapter we find out kabutos returned, healing Sasuke, and Sasuke gets the rinnegan via hashiramas blood. If that's the case, why didn't obito do this to Sasuke given the access to the DNA if he even knew about the connection between sharigan and rinnegan (presumably if he knew)?

Guess you cannot blame him if the off chance wrong could occur like what happened to Danzo mixing the bloodlines.

Otherwise I'm happy to see guy to full power too bad it costs him his life. There's a very small chance of him surviving but it's not likely. Lee losing neji and guy though, that can give him a bigger role in all this. Seems cruel but lee has been the victim before when neji and gaara were beaten by naruto. Really it's no surprise sakura would go with naruto at this point either given the development when it comes to ns vs ls.

Still it's just a waiting game for us when we want to see more of sakura with naruto and obito in the recovery situation, such a cliffhanger will be kept for a while.

Least we have some action to enjoy in the meantime with guy going 8 gates on Madara.

In terms of story this chapter was beautiful, motivation heroism and dare I say YOUTH.

Definitely, I found it a very powerful chapter. Really don't get those that reacted so negatively at all. There's always an important point in the flashbacks that it's meant to make you think on that adds another layer of depth to the story.

Because imo giving someone as unstable as Sasuke a power like the rinnegan would make kitten way too risky. His job was basically to fight Naruto and be used as a sacrifice. Giving him the rinnegan would just be dangerous.

Me I thought that this was a slow chapter and the Flashback while good seeing Gai dad may be a little too late to be shown this late in the game.

 

But there are good points in this chapter. One being that Gai is going to go all out and he might damage Madara now I just hope its not in vain as I would hate that Gai died for nothing.

 

Another was how Gai and his father was mocked I mean its one of the lessons that Kishi tells us I mean this Manga is not just about fights its about Kishi giving us lessons.

So Gai is basically gonna pull a Chaotzu or Majin Vegeta (anyone else like how Chaotzu died in vain and is called useless, while Vegeta did the exact same thing and is called a hero?)

 

Also I wonder if Sakura's still going to be elbow deep in Naruto's ribcage when he wakes up (Kishi might use it for a humurous moment like he did with the poisoned kunai) or I guess she could patch him up when she sees that he's waking up (though the huge hole on his side might take a while to heal)

Well DBZ is known for "Sacrifice for good cause? What's that?" So I don't know if that will be the case here.

Yeah me thinks either Gai will do no damage to Madara and be saved at the last second (since Neji's already gone)

 

or end up sacrificing his life to end up injuring Madara enough to have a weak spot for Naruto to attack (like the dead Raikage) he might end up destroying the Rinnegan (unlikely) or he might end up destroying Hashirama's face off Madara's chest so he won't be immune to senjutsu.

the chapter for me was ok. but what did gai's dad mean when he said that guy cant use ninjutsu when that cant be true because we have seen in the manga(chapter 506) that gai can use the summoning techinique which is a ninjutsu.
