#882917 Kishi Shonen Jump interview

Posted by xxRomanceGirlxx on 20 October 2015 - 01:04 AM

I'm over the Naruto ending for the most part, but I still can't like any of the NH and SS kids. NH/SS family fanart, promotional works, fanfics or anything related to them is the worst repellant I can think of. I still cringe. All I see when I look at Himewari or Bolt or Sarada are the kids that should never have been born.

The fact that Kishimoto "reasons" Hinata was "meant to be with Naruto" because she always acknowledged him defies one of the key points about what Naruto's journey was about. Naruto got nothing easy, and that was exactly the point. He worked to prove himself in every way he possibly could. He was hated and meant to work for everything so he could truly prove he could be acknowledged. Hinata was simply meant as the proof he could be acknowledged while all the other villagers were something earned on his own. NaruHina was never meant to fit in this equation. NaruSaku was an obvious answer to the storyline and a representation of everything Naruto set out to achieve.

Kishimoto destroyed everything Naruto was supposed to be about. It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that I have more respect for Naruto's character and the storyline than their own creator.

@James S. Cassidy:

I think between a nice guy and "Nice" Guy there's a very thin line, but a line nonetheless. It's normal to be frustrated and upset when a girl you like doesn't like you and seems to go for everyone else, especially when you're the one "ALWAYS THERE", but you can't forget your love interest is also a person, not just the object of your desire. You shouldn't keep EXPECTING reciprocation or manipulate all their defenses to get them to that point. They have just as much as right to not like you as you have to like them. The RIGHT nice guy (or nice girl for that matter) is to respect your crush's feelings, even if it's not for you and you love them without expecting anything or manipulation. It shouldn't be the same as weak or a willing doormat - that's just unhealthy. You should be able to stand up for both yourself and them.

The worst "Nice" guy character I've ever seen in fiction was in this book series I read. He was a side character who had a one-book romance with the heroine after her falling out with the hero, but then in the next book she realized she still loved the hero and politely told them she just wanted to be friends. Next thing you know, the next book this "nice guy" - the same guy who tried too hard to defend her he wouldn't even let her speak up for herself - went  bats**t crazy and tried to kill her father and her own kids as punishment for breaking up with him. Yeah, I'm not joking. This was the same guy who "claimed" to love her.

Kishimoto's characters aren't nearly as bad as that example, but no one who had romantic interest in anyone followed the "nice girl/nice guy" philosophy. They all became selfish, twisted characters who view people as prizes instead of people and constantly expected something that never should've been expected. That is not love, that's obsession. Karin might've surpassed this, but with how little it makes sense given the rest of the series it might as well not exist. Kishimoto doesn't know how to write romance. I hope for any of his future readers' sake he never makes another character involved with romance. He taints the character and he taints the series.

#857348 Naruto Gaiden

Posted by xxRomanceGirlxx on 14 July 2015 - 10:44 PM

Got the gist of the Gaiden (I refuse to read any of this garbage). I can't say I'm surprised at anything that happened. Once again Kishimoto's crappy plotlines shines again. This whole mini-arc was pointless. Pointless drama about Sarada's real mom and did nothing but stomp over shells of the characters (except for Karin, which was the most amazing thing out of this).

There were pointless scenes strongly indicating Karin as the mother but it's all false because reasons. SS love is supposed to be accepted through words and Sasuke's "We had you" line because banana. I guess I live in a wacky universe where real marriages are deeper than a absentee party and a child between you. Whoops, my mistake. Better check myself into a mental institution.

Literally the only consistent thing I can even slightly appreciate is Sasuke. He's the only character that's the same. He leaves with no f***s given, doesn't even show Sakura any deep affection except in they apparently had a child and calls her "wife". SS is supposed to be canon, yet their execution is more laughable than NH. Literally nothing really changed in their relationship. Their execution is so bad, for all I know Sasuke could've just donated sperm, impregnated her with his Sharingan, married Sakura out of pity or Karin might really be the real mother and they just covered it up because Sakura's "better" for Sasuke. Lmao, this is the first couple I've ever seen that's canon has these loveless possibilities and they're all still plausible. :lmao:

This is just a joke. Truly a joke. Why is this gaiden even called "Naruto"? It should be called "Sasuke Gaiden", like the original series should've been named "Sasuke". He gets everything, gets AWAY with everything, 99.999% of the plot revolves around him, and all Naruto got was a empty Hokage position and a wife he was guilt-tripped into marrying. All Naruto ever was was a tool to Sasuke's journey. Nothing more, nothing less, and that's the sad truth.

@Narufan85:

I'm actually freaked at how many guys in real life and fiction that I know of fit that little comic on "Nice" Guy trope. :twitch: What's even freakier is that some of these "nice" guy characters are glorified and gain too much sympathy when all they really do is b***h and whine about not having the girl notice them and go for other men when "HE DOES EVERYTHING FOR HER". :twitch: :twitch: :twitch:

Naruto was never this type of Nice Guy by the end Part 1. He never complained, never expected anything, always supported the girl he loved's happiness above all this. I tend to admire these types of nice guys more. I can still like characters with minor "nice" guy tendencies, but the bitterness and constant whining just isn't as appealing as the more enduring types.

Of course, I'm talking about the ORIGINAL Naruto. Not the Naruto that was too busy sulking to bother saving the girl he loved since she apparently "rejected" him.

*gag*

I was hoping SasuSaku would crash and burn from the Sarada drama. There is no way with canon to write this couple except as a parody. Which is exactly what it is now.

God, NO ONE on Kishi's team give any explanation to how SS happened. Not in this novel, not in anything. Please. They did that with NH and it made everything ten times worse.

It's like putting make-up on piece of crap. You can make it look as pretty and appealing as you want, but underneath the glamour all you're doing is drawing attention to what it still is: a piece of crap. Don't let them tarnish this series anymore than they already have.

#775055 Do you regret being a fan of Naruto?

Posted by xxRomanceGirlxx on 10 March 2015 - 12:07 AM

A large part of me does, yes. What I loved about Naruto was that it symbolized to me everything that was inspiring. Naruto's story of being a loser that had no hope of being a genius and hated by everyone grew up to be this great succeeding hero with everyone's acknowledgment and not a hint of it was handed to him. He made it that way himself - or at least that's how it used to be. Sakura's maturity from a immature fangirl to being mature and grown up felt so relatable and realistic - or at least that's what I thought it would be.

Now I realize these characters with so much potential were put in the hands of hack who lost enthusiasm for the own world he created. He turned his back on every message this story was supposed to be about. I wasted 7 years of my life loving and following this series for it's themes and characters and all of it now just feels like a lie. If I had never got attached to this series, I would've saved myself a whole lot of disappointment.

But even as I say that, I can never regret NaruSaku. This ship symbolized everything this story was supposed to symbolize and is the truest definition of love I've ever seen: selfless. Not fangirling, not forced plot devices, abuse, and most importantly not selfishness. All SasuSaku and NaruHina have ever been about is selfishness, even "reciprocated". NH turned Naruto selfish and the one thing I always valued about NS was it highlighted the best about him --- about both characters. NaruSaku was natural and beautiful and matter what kitten comes out of this story's ending and Kishi's mouth, it wouldn't take away what I found in it.

On the cynical side, as much as hate Kishimoto for ruining this manga, I learned from this experience. I learned that there's nothing you can predict in a story that's solid. No matter how much faith you have in something and how much seems obvious and makes sense ... none of this matter in the hands of the wrong author. They can do whatever they want any way they want and at the end of day logic and obviousness don't need to be in the equation, even though they should be.

Like Tricksie, I learned to be cautious with literary works. I'm not going to put as much high expectations in a ship or a story like this ever again. My guard is up and I'm not letting myself get this disappointed again. You're completely at the any whim of the writer--- ships, themes, plots, all of it. I won't forget that any time soon.

I refuse to accept whatever "closure" for NS they might have in this novel. I refuse to accept anything Kishimoto tries to explain and wrap up through movies and novels. Any self-respecting writer doesn't tie up the main story's important loose ends with side stories. It's lazy and nothing more than a cash grab. I've taken enough insults to my intelligence from Kishi already, thanks.

The only good thing that came out of Naruto's ending is that whenever I see another terrible ending and cancerous canon pair, I'll look back on Naruto and tell myself:

"It's not as bad as Naruto's ending"/"This couple's canon isn't as bad as SasuSaku's and NaruHina's"

Sasuke was travelling one day and got in a drinking contest with Suigetsu because Suigetsu challenged him. Sasuke got drunk for the first time and suddenly started crying manly tears of all his past sins he never gave a serious kitten about sober while Sakura (who found his trail and decided to stalk him because fangirl habits) saw Sasuke as the most noble, compassionate gentleman ever. Sasuke cried, gushing lines of bullsh** he didn't deserve her and how much he cared for her therefore Sakura freaked happily and sentimental drunk Sasuke ended up screwing Sakura in a nearby inn.

The next morning Sasuke is sober when Sakura squeals they slept together. Sasuke is disgusted, has no memory of what happened, and leaves with a "You're delusional and still annoying" comment before resuming his travels. Sakura finds him in two months, telling him she's pregnant. Sasuke is unbelievably horrified, but buys her a house with the Uchiha fan on it out of guilt before leaving immediately without a goodbye.

From that day forward Sasuke never touched alcohol again and travels the world to avoid the existence of Sarada, as she was the "one night mistake he doesn't remember."  Sakura denies to this day Sasuke only slept with her because he was drunk.

This is it guys. This is how SS happened.

I was just surfing tvtropes. Remember when someone here said once Hinata is a Mary Sue? Well add Relationship Sue in there too.

Click on the 1st link that's listed after this one. Read the last 2 paragraphs specifically. They explain exactly what happened with Hinata, Sakura, and NaruSaku.

I think that's what got me the most. The fact this NH fan, who wrote so intelligently and looked educated, fell back on the age-old argument Hinata is relevant because she's an obsessed fangirl who loves Naruto. No matter how I educated she said it, literally all she wrote was that kitteny.

I just don't get it. What about Naruto? Why didn't his nonexistent feelings for Hinata and feelings for Sakura matter? This person can argue all she wants Naruto didn't love Sakura, but he did all the way until 698. They're lopping up all these retcons from The Last and not even trying to see how illogical it is. It's just so damn sad.

NaruSaku wasn't "narratively impossible". What should've been "narratively impossible" is a side character's wish fulfillment overriding the main character but I guess who gives a kitten.

I got a response from a NH fan from one of my tumblr posts about why NS was impossible in the context of the story. Said the usual things, "no proof of love from Naruto", "NS was shot down in 469", blah blah just the typical ignorant things we hear from them but okay I was willing to hear it out.

"Hinata's feelings were always glorified and exaggerated. Kishi won't have unrequited love at the end of the story. For Hinata's feelings to be shoved aside would not only be superfluous be downright tragic---"

I stopped reading there.
