I wanna hear members favorite fanfictions. The top five you've ever read. Any type is okay. Whether it was a fic that spans over 3-4 storys so far, a one shot, or even a songfic.

My Top Five
5) The Children by rangermike. A Star Wars Kotor fanfic
4) Heart of Ice by Krista Perry.(Even though it isn't finished yet.) A Ranma 1/2 fic
3)Training for the Job by desaix. A Naruto fic.
2)Jealosuy Series by Debbie Kluge. A excellent Jonny Quest fic.
1) Harry Potter and the Darkness before Dawn, Lions Of Gryffindor, War of Shadows Series by madscientist. By far the best Harry Potter Fanfic I've ever read.

After reading fanfiction and writing fanfiction for a decade, my list would get pretty long... which is why I've never bothered in the past. But here's a brief summary, not including any Naruto fanfics (because they haven't had the year plus of time it usually takes for a good fanfic to 'season' in my head, allowing me to be sure I like it as a 'top' fic):
(edited to include another series)
Click For Spoiler

Ranma: (The series I've been reading longest, so there's a lot of links here)
Taming of the Horse ( http://www.csus.edu/.../seifertv/toth/ )
Girl Days ( http://www.knology.n...2/Textfile.html )
Ranma Goes to War\Once More Into the Breach\Chasing the Wind ( the author's webpage appears to be dead, but the fic is archived at http://archives.eyri...ma-Goes-To-War/ )
The Saotome Gambit (Same author as above, cannot find a web archive link but I'm sure it's out there in one of the Rec.arts.anime.creative mirrors)
Daigakuse no Ranma (A controversial fic, but I've never understood what the controversy is. Warning -- it's script form. It's also the only Ranma fanfic I ever read which was originally started BEFORE the Ranma series ended in Japan. http://www.dkcomm.net/dnr/ )
Comes the Cold Dragon ( http://www.iamnota.net/fanfics/ )
The Caller's Plight by Jorge Pratt (Er, good luck finding a copy of this one. I haven't found a link to it in years. Portions of it may be available on some Rec.arts.anime.creative archives, but I'm not sure of that -- I know the author intended to pull it from them so that he could resubmit it in 'revised' form, but never did the revisions)
The Accidental Goddess (xover with OMG. The link I have is broken)

Inu Yasha:
Present Times ( http://www.mediamine...ew_st.php/11663 )
Er... there are others I enjoy, but nothing particularly stands out in my head. I'd probably be able to find you a dozen if I tried, but I'm spending too much time on this as it is)

Jonny Quest:
Jealousy Saga ( http://www.questenterprises.org/ under the author name Debbie Kluge. Be sure to check out the uncensored chapters in the Backroom after you get your password)

Slayers:
Slayers Reflect\Chaos\Rebirth ( http://www.pixelscapes.com/twoflower/ )
Um... look for the author 'Paraika,' as well, although I can't seem to find her.

Voltron:
Princess and Her Knight ( http://www.geocities...yo/Garden/4379/ )
Bonds of Love ( http://www.geocities...fics/index.html )
School Days ( http://www.kaex.net/...e/caroline.html )
Black Arus ( http://www.angelfire...oltrondark.html )
Even Space Explorers Get the Flu ( http://www.geocities.com/stefkaa/ )
The saga being written by Zejan the Wonder Monkey. Er, it's a bit tricky to find, however, because it's never been on a major archive and she's taken it down for major revisions. You're more likely to find the extensive fanart collection she's made for the fic then the fic itself.

Oh! My Goddess:
Ah! My Hentai ( http://www.pixelscapes.com/twoflower/ )

Kimagure Orange Road:
Kimagure Orange College (Dead link to the only site I've seen that has the two most recent chapters... although I found an incomplete version at http://laplace.snu.a...Orange-College/ and an incomplete spanish language translation at http://users.animang...magure/koc.html and... get this, I've even seen a couple chapters translated BACK into Japanese, although my link to that is broken as well now. Gah, this one's internationally popular...)

Dragonball Z
Misadventures of Gohan and Videl ( http://www.fanfiction.net/s/570711/1/ )
Field Trip to Camp Hercule ( http://www.fanfiction.net/u/95236/ )

Lois and Clark:
(Too numerous to mention. The archive at http://www.lcfanfic.com/ contains 2700+ fanfics, and I'd just a good half of them are top quality)

I've been reading fanfiction for over 8 years now and my tastes have gotten a little... harsh. It takes a lot for me to even bother reading a fic, because I can usually predict what the author will do before he/she even does it. These five fics are ones where the writing style is excellent or the story is unmatched in their respective regions.

5)Contradicting Mission by Chelsee / DragonBall Z fanfic
This is the only DragonBall fic I've ever read where the Super saiyan ability was blocked. I loved her characterization of Bojack.

4)Asinine Rationalizations by Geno Calamari / A Naruto fanfic
Well, there isn't much I can say here that hasn't been said already. It's just that good.

3)Megaman X: Whispers in Time by Erico / Megaman & Megaman X fanfic
This story talks about the destruction of Megaman and the creation of Megaman X. This is by far the most emotional fic ever. Especially chapter 10: last blue sunset.

2)The Tamers Forever series and Gospel by Daneel Rush -Koushi- / Digimon fanfic
The story begins simply but evolves into a true epic. Takato's journey is one of the most interesting I've ever encountered.

1)The legend of link: Lucky Number 13 by Mr. E / The Legend of Zelda fanfic
This is my favorite fanfic of all time. This guy has mastered the art of revealing things that destroy your previous understanding of the fic. But it's done so well that once you know about it you have to go back and reread everything before to find all the hints he left behind.

I could've put lots of other ones in here, but these are the best. Has anyone here read House of Leaves by honeyblood? Another one of the great Naruto fanfics. I have read Inuyasha fanfiction, but I don't like most of them. I have to say that Present Time is a great fic... but it's incomplete... and that annoys me.

Number 5 to 2 are available on fanfiction.net but The legend of link is only available on mediaminer.
Legend of Link.
In these demon days, It's so cold inside
So hard for a good soul to survive
You can't even trust the air you breathe
Because mother earth wants us all to leave

Tough decision. There are great ones out there whose name I cannot even remember, so recency is a factor. But here are my ten favorites, in no particulr order.

Between Sun and Moon by Kaara (Naruto). My favorite NaruIno, if you are a fan you should read this.

In every life a Little Rain Must Fall by (when I find author name I'll post it) (Ranma)

For Better or Worst Case Scenario by Golden Arms (Ranma).

Better Left Unsaid by Librarian'sAssistant (Naruto). My favorite resolution of the Kyuubi question and ultimately why I'll never be satisfied with Kishimoto's resolution.

One Less Star, Book 1 by CinnaminGrrl (Inuyasha). The only MirokuKagura of any significant length I have found, and as a added bonus its well written.

Loss and Redemption by Hawker-748 (Love Hina): If you want a good example of Motoko losing to Tsuruko, this is, by far, one of the best.

Ships in the Night by Hawker-748 (Love Hina) Very good Keitaro/Tsuruko, though I don't think there are many fans of the pairing.

Steel Rose by Randoml337 (Love Hina) Another very good Keitaro/Motoko

Roses, I have no idea who wrote it, and I lack the time to track it down, if I find it I'll post (Slayers), one of my favorite Zel/Amelia's (one of two canon fics to make the list)

Redemption of the Cursed by ShadowCelest117. I reluctant to put this one, as it has been on hiatus for eight months, but I put it because I really do like it and hope the author continues. Naruto/Tayuya fic.

Oooh. That's tough. Top five only?

Hmm, I've been in fanfiction for six years now. However, I was never a good fic hunter, so these fics I like might not compare to those that are recommended above.

5) The Fun of Playing Go by Vkempf (Hikaru no Go) - Simple. Plain. Captures Hikaru no Go's theme with such ease. That's what I like about it the most.

4) Autumn of Armageddon by Karin-Sama (Slayers) - I am not a Slayers fun, but because Karin-Sama was/is my most favorite author, I went ahead and read it. What a fun adventure to read.

3) Tokyo Jpop by Kalus (Evangelion) - I'm not the queen of all Eva fandom, and I do not read Evangelion fanfiction on a regular basis. But he wrote a favorite original of mine, and so I read this one and found it very...interesting.

2) Relativity by dementedchris (His and Her Circumstances) - I can't help reading this one-shot over and over, as simple as it is, as pretty as it is--I don't know why!

1) Paper Cranes by Karin-Sama (Gundam Wing) - I have it saved on my computer and every time I read it I am in tears by the very end. This is the only fanfic that has induced me to tears by its tragedy.

I love Better Left Unsaid, but it's also been on hiatus for a long time, unless he's posting it somewhere else besides FF.net (which would be understandable). If he is posting it somewhere else, please let me know!

It'd probably make my top ten list regardless. I'll have to think a bit before filling it out.

Btw desaix... Stefan 'Two flower' Gagnes?! biggrin.gif That guy's awesome! Ever get around to reading his (unfinished) Slayers Starboard? He took the link down from his mainpage, but (last i checked 2 years ago) the site's still up.
Edit: Aaaw... That's too bad desaix. It still got off to a decent start, but the anticipation killer for never having finished... *sigh*

In no particular order except by series'...
Click For Spoiler

Naruto authors.

Kraken's Ghost
-Foxhound (Naruto)
Good NaruIno, though I'm not sure why, but I'm absolutely taken aback by his 'Deus Ex Machina' Naruto fic. I can't wait for the next part!

The SOC Puppet
-Bloodlines (Naruto)
-Set in Stone (Naruto)
Another good author Naruto who hardly updates anymore.

Mostly Ranma authors.

DB Sommer
-The Cross Dressing Caper (Azumanga Daioh)
-Yardwork (featuring Heero Yui) (Gundam Wing)
-Those Who Hunt Ninja (Ranma)
A favourite of mine thanks to his numerous Azumanga Daioh one-shots, DB Sommer writes for LOADS of series'.

Carrotglace
-Insertion: Reflux! (Ranma xover)
Carrot used to write ALOT of fics. Mostly Ranma crossovers. Great stuff!

WFROSE
-Older' (Ranma)
-Akane the Suicidal (Ranma)
WFROSE is mostly famous for his Ranma fics. Alot of innovative and twisted concepts but phenomally well done concerning romance and waff.

Bluefurball
-When Bakas Learn (Ranma)
Don't be put off by the japanese in the title! This is a very well-detailed ranma fic! Only... Not sure if this author will ever update.

Jason Wong
-Way of the Ninjutsu (Ranma)
-Fate of Love (Ranma x Sailormoon)
An extinct author, Jason Wong started two series' written very well. It's too bad he'd disappeared.

Vince Seifert
-Taming of the Horse (Ranma)
A long Ranma series, but a satisfying Ranma/Akane resolution. He's another extinct author, though he did finish Taming of the Horse, the sequel Centaur is not.

Other series authors

Karina Kineshi
-One Growing Roses (Evangelion)
-To My Dearest Honey (Evangelion)
Karina does great Evangelion waff (both fics listed) and she also does some Rurouni Kenshin fics too.

Random1377
-Uncommon Law (Evangelion)
-Off Sand and Leaf (Naruto)
Random1377 has written a large archive of Evangelion fanfiction, mostly waff, sometimes romance, but all great!

Lara Bartram
-Role-Playing (Evangelion)
Mostly an authoress of Ranma and Evangelion, her one-shots are definitely... something.

Fire
-Red Moon (Sailormoon)
Errr... Despite not being able to remember what else he wrote, I still had to add him, since Red Moon is an absolute favourite of mine.

*phew* I need to take a breather. Still not a comprehensive enough list, in my opinion. I think I lost alot more fics than I'd found... sad.gif
Though... I'm gonna have to go through alot of what you guys had already posted!! This is gonna be a loooong read. ^^

After the roller coaster which was the trilogy, I decided I'd wait until Starboard was finished before I embarked on attempting it -- less stressful that way. It never was, so I never did.

Vespar:
Lara Bartram was also the co-writer of the only good 'cross-fusion' (a hybrid of a fusion and a crossover) I've ever read and enjoyed. The fusion characters are the Ranma cast into the Star Wars universe, crossing over with the Star Wars cast. The interactions between the Ranma characters and the Star Wars characters was so... amusing. The implication that Obi-Wan Kenobi's ex-wife (Nodoka) harassing him was the main reason he lets Vader strike him down puts a whole new spin on things, for example. And Darth Tofu is a... um... terrifying new villain.

Unfortunately, the fic (A Faint Hope, IIRC) has never been continued past the Star Wars: A New Hope (however you number the movies, now) timeline. And, to the best of my knowledge, it was never put on the web -- just on the old Fanfic Mailing List (FFML) which, I fear, no longer has an intact archive anywhere.

http://ffml.anifics.com/archives/ has archives going back to 1995, which I believe would make them complete. (Glancing at them, there's a gap in 2001, but if I recall correctly that was the time when the FFML proper died for a while.) Unfortunately, that archive isn't easily searched or browsed.

Yeah, there's an archive. But it's hardly intact -- there are significant gaps, and sometimes you'll find entries which have holes in them, or are corrupted. The archive is full of corrupted data.

I should know about the 2001 gap pretty well, btw -- I ran one of the (really, the only active) temporary FFMLs waiting for the original to be restored. If I'd known that the FFML would become as dead as it has, today, I'd never have bothered.

Vespar, so another fan of Random's work. I generally like his fiction, though I have not read all of it. Uncommon Law was a good one, it barely missed the list. I picked his Steel Rose simply because I'm more of a Love Hina fan than Evangelion and I though it was slightly better.

1) By the Grace of Lady Vader - A21, A-P, Fern - A Star Wars AU fic with Luke's mom still being alive. It's epic in every sense of the word.

2) The Paradigm Of Uncertainty - Lori - A when they're adults H/Hr fic. One of the fics that converted me to the H/Hr pairing in the first place.

3) Second Chances- Red Crow - Shouldn't even be here since it's not even complete yet. But well since this is a Naruto forum.

4) War of the Runes - Johnathan Priest - Suikoden 3 what-should-have-happened fic. So the AU part is well, not a full blown AU.

5) Sometimes they Come Back - Diddly Day - Leon/Claire from Resident Evil 2.
