I've rewatching alot of series recently like Yu Yu Hakusho,  One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Ball Z, etc. While doing so, I thought to myself about not just the best tournament arc in a particular series,  but the greatest arcs in Shounen history.

The Dark Tournament Arc from Yu-Yu Hakusho  because of simple reason.  the battles that took place were just amazing and each battle brought some sort of tension, and each opposing team had some kinda darkness.  the way the backstory of the ichigaki warriors were handled by the manipulated evil demon doctor was just astounding, and Ichigaki got wher we deserved like that's how you do an arc.  ofcourse the finals were a little predictable, but the journey of how Team Yusuke got there is what really mattered, and each fight had many twists and turns. the way how each member from Yusuke's team took down their opponents like I wow the stakes were real. Also when you really think about it, the Dark Tournament kinda set the map for most the shounen manga that've come  when it comes to tournament arcs.

What do you guys think is the greatest torunament arc in shounen history?

This is tough. I don't have time to thoroughly explain why these are the best, I may come back later and elaborate, but my top 5 Tournament Arcs are:

5) 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai (Dragonball)
4) Battle City (Yu-Gi-Oh)
3) Chunin Exam (Naruto) *I still think this is a good Tournament*
2) Hunter Exam (Hunter X Hunter)
1) Dark Tournament (Yu-Yu-Hakusho)

Hmm, I haven't seen enough Tournament arcs to give a comprehensive list, so for now I'll say the Chunin exam. I genuienly think this was Naruto's second best arc. The tension was high, and while they were in the forest you never knew what would happen. We get introduced to the side characters, Orochimaru shows up, and Sakura gets some great development. In a way, I also like intention of the Chunin exam. The exam was created as a sort of "peaceful" fighting and competition among the different cities.
