Yes...Yes, it's a great freakin' show. Just fantastic.

It's an amazing show with how its been adapted to represent Sherlock and Watson's relationship to one another, borderline fantastical and brilliant. I love the cinematography and how its been used to show the working cogs of Sherlock's mind. Cumberbatch has a thrilling voice and cheeks that could cut 

 

BUT

my only grip with it is probably how it has represented different kinds of people of today's modern age. Unfortunately making these representation into something offensive and one-dimensional but wrongly dismissed for the sake keeping the show on its pedestal.

 

I like the story and characters, but I don't like how they were treated and used to emphasize Sherlock's greatness.

This show is great! The episodes are long, which is why I was a bit hesitant at first, but if you were like I was then, be like I am now, and watch the show!

 

Not gonna lie though... Moriarty's dialect... is not one I've heard before and is suuuuuuuuper distracting. Is it an existing dialect or an actor choice?

 

Also, in the books, isn't Mycroft smarter than Sherlock? He doesn't seem that way in the TV show. I'm sure that's more so they can include him without him being deus ex machina.

I agree. I love their relationship. His voice... kind of reminds me of an Alan Rickman... just with a little more flexibility in color.

And yes, Mycroft's smarter than Sherlock, but in here, Mycroft's more active and has national security concerns to worry about than Sherlock in this adaptation, so he's more pragmatic than the usual, "Sherlock's prodigious intelligence isn't enough to solve this case, so let's turn to his lazy-ass sloth (but loads smarter) of a brother for help!"

Season 3 just premiered the other night. How did you guys feel about how they handled the explanation of the final moments from last season?

After reading an interview with Mark Gatiss last summer, I've been even more keen to see what they're going to do in Season 3.  As a long-time Holmes geek I have so much fun looking/listening for all the easter eggs.  It's a terrific show in every way.

 

Except for Watson's new p0rn 'stache I've seen in the previews.  That's got to go.

Hm... Just watched 'The Sign of Three'. I think the silliness of Doctor Who is bleeding into Sherlock a bit. I liked the episode but we've kind of gotten two light-hearted episodes back to back. I wonder if it's going to be a pre-cursor to darker stuff. The 3 is almost too much like the Doctor, Amy, and Rory...

Finished season 3. It got better and better as it progressed.

"The Empty Hearse" was a good opening to the season. "The Sign of Three" did even better; such a different kind of episode, but it was tied together nicely. "His Last Vow"... there's what this all was building up to. And it was worth it. Magnussen was absolutely fantastic, and is one of the highlights of the entire show for me. I dare say I liked him more than Moriarty. He was so menacing and calculating and creepy, but in his own unique way. I love the contrast it provides to Moriarty. Moriarty's more of a showman, more dramatic like Sherlock tends to be. His behavior is unpredictable and unhinged.

 

Magnussen, though. He's a bully. He's frightening. He knows what he needs to do to stay in control of other people and abuses this ability he has for his own personal enjoyment, relishing others' pain. He delights in being able to do whatever he wants to anyone without getting any backlash because he knows he has them by the balls. He knows they're helpless. He knows he's too brilliant and prepared and observant for them to even attempt resisting.

 

Moriarty is devious, but he's kind of likable because of his mannerisms and tendency to show off.

Magnussen, on the other hand, is just plain monstrous.

 

Aside from that, this season in particular had some amazing direction. The mind palace scene in which Sherlock's simply deciding which direction to fall and his struggle to live, for example, is quite possibly the best sequence in the entire show.

 

Now, to address the elephant in the room... Moriarty "returning". I don't know if I want him to really be alive or not. He's had his time to shine, and it would be nice to get more variety down the line. Plus, if he starts to be the "big bad" again, season 3 will likely be remembered as "that one filler season without Moriarty", which would honestly suck. I don't know. Whatever direction they decide to go with this, I just hope they do it well. In the end, that's all that matters.

 

Magnussen will be missed regardless. Such a fantastic villain; he had only one episode to shine, and boy did he use it well.

Finally got around to watching season 3. Absolutely amazing!! I daresay it's my favorite season so far. I LOVED Sherlock in this season. Well, I awaya love him. But I just loved the emphasis on characters in this season. Now I want to write a Death Note/Sherlock crossover where L and Sherlock meet... :3
