So Alita: Battle Angel has officially come out, and it's a movie I've been very interested in seeing given how it was also a manga. I'm gonna get the chance to see it pretty soon, but word has it that for a manga adaptation it's pretty good.

Any of you got a chance of seeing it? or are seeing it? what do you guys think?

Ah, a movie based off of an anime/manga. And not only that, it is an AMERICAN movie based off of an anime/manga. Previous experience tells me it will NOT do well  :zaru: on it's own OR as homage to the source material

I haven't read much of the manga, so for again an American adaptation of a Japanese manga I have a feeling it might not end up well. Best case scenario it'll be a good movie but not an accurate adaptation

I am interested in what other people think though. Despite being skeptical it's Robert Rodriguez and he's a pretty good director. Plus just for once I want to there to be a movie based on an anime that isn't bad. The only anime movie adaptation-at least that I've seen-that's decent was The Wachowski's Speed Racer

OK so I've looked around for some reviews, and so far it looks like people are liking it well enough. It only has a 60% critical rate on Rotten Tomatoes, but has a 90% audience rating. Judging from what I'm seeing it seems like it's not great, but enjoyable. Apparently I was a little too cynical

IMO Its one of if not the BEST Anime adaptation to live action ive ever seen, Rodriguez and Cameron showed great love and respect for the source material and they followed the OVA adaptation almost religiously. While showing similar respect to the Managa.

Its visually gorgeous and action packed as well as some great performances from the actors. I thought the Anime eyes on the main character would be off putting but turns out It was much ado about nothing I barely noticed them.

Honestly I always thought that Anime was one of the harder mediums to translate to live action for several reasons the tropes dont translate well some of the comedy can come off as cartoonish. But Alita showed it can be done, Like Justice League Aquaman Avengers  and others I think the tech has finally caught up in a way that allows these stories to be told via live action, The Matrix laid the ground work for this film and others to come.

All told Ir was an enjoyable movie that even if you haven't seen or read the manga or the OVA you could get into it.

So I saw it, and I really loved it. It had a lot of good action, and likable characters with well-written dialogue, and the acting was top notch. Especially between Christoph Waltz and Rosa Salazar; like I could really believe that these two could have a familial type bond in real life. Rosa herself was really good in the movie, and although at first I was kind of thrown off by her being Robert Zemeckis style CGI motion capture, but I warmed up to it pretty quickly. A lot of critics didn't like the screenplay, and while I didn't have any major problems with the writing for the most part I can definitely see why someone wouldn't like it. I was listening to a podcast and someone on it said that it was very much like putting in a DVD of an anime and hitting play all, which it is. It's structured like an arc of an anime series, which is a bit creative in terms of playing with the three-act structure, but when translating that to a movie it has some pacing issues. And yeah, it also means that it sequel baits hard. But that being said, I do hope there is a sequel because this is a really good movie even with its flaws

It is a good movie. It actually is a really good movie I'd say and the female heroine is amazing. THIS is how you do a female hero. You don't have to hate on men to make female heroes look powerful. This is a prime example of how it should be done.

Hey now, we're not all that bad. Here's an excerpt from my review:

What does help the narrative, though, is the journey Alita goes on and her overall arc as a character. Watching her learn about the world, along with the thin line between more artificial beings and humans is compelling.

Her evolution from being a curious, peaceful person to a warrior ready to fight for a cause is also handled well and improves the cinematic experience.

It of course helps to get a strong performance from Salazar, who does solid work using the motion capture technology to give a well-rounded portrayal. The initial naivety the character has is convincing and her growing resolve and willpower is inspired, thanks to Salazar’s work.

Overall I thought it was pretty good. Not great, not my favorite, but still pretty good.

I'm late on sharing my thoughts on this,  Feburary to May has been pretty crazy on my swing of things, but I'm going to be sharing my thoughts on Alita Battle Angel.

The movie is such a breath of fresh air (no joke), and while Captain Marvel was entertaining... I genuinely felt empathy for Alita throughout this movie to a point where instantly I connected with the character as well as the arc she had. You can tell that Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron were truly passionate about what they were working on, and Rosa Salazar did a phenomenal job with her performance as well as Christoph Waltz as Dr. Ido, and the other actors who portrayed their roles were very decent too. The story itself was also something that really stood out to me in terms of what was offered in how it was handled by Cameron and Rodriguez, and I'm genuinely excited for a sequel. The pacing was the one thing did feel a little off at times, but overall I love this movie!

More than anything I feel Alita: Battle Angel is one of those pure underrated gems that's gonna become a cult classic as time  goes by (you can argue it already is), and more than anything Alita as a character can be a great role model too in that respect.

Not saying you have to, but if you guys really want the sequel to become a reality than support the home video release is gonna be the key in all of this:

It comes out on Blu ray and Dvd July 23rd 2019 - a little less than one month!

I know this movie is gonna be a day one purchase for me.
