The main bulk of the story is told through the movies. There are currently seven movies-not counting The Clone Wars (which was to set up for the show) and the anthology movies like Rogue One and the upcoming Han Solo solo movie. Supplemental stories that flesh out characters from the movies and set up/retcon events are told through novels, comics, video games, and cartoons

That's for what's canon. Legends is a whole nother story pun intended. Since you're unfamiliar I wouldn't suggest getting into it until you're more versed in canon
