Wind Waker is a GREAT game. You should play it! ^^

I HATED IT when it came out. I was a part of the fandom that left when the "kiddie" game was presented. Many of us wanted a more realistic look to the game, and wanted the games to continue to develop more adult themes at the time. In fact it's the reason I switched to a PS2, and didn't buy a Gamecube until Twilight Princess. After the 16 bit wars I thought I was making a big statement back then. I still supported Nintendo's handhelds but I wouldn't support their system until the end of it's life.

Since then of course I've played other Legend of Zelda games that are set in the cel shade style, and I enjoyed them enough. They aren't my favorite, but they are fun. Still one day I may get around to playing WW, I enjoyed Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks enough.

It may sound stupid now, but back in the day of the early internet it was a big deal in the Zelda fandom. People really were pissed off back then. In fact until Kishimoto pulled his crap I'd say it was one of the biggest divided in a fandom I had ever seen. Of course unlike Kishimoto's product, WW actual was a quality game, and most of us came back later on anyways even if we didn't play WW.

Well, Okay that's fine if you don't like Wind Waker. I loved it though and I've replayed it a few times. The art style didn't bother me at all personally.

Ah the days between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, the cause of the Zelda Flame Wars of 2004 at Gamespot.com...

Anyway, I was actually somewhat in the same boat as you were for a bit before WW came out. I remember seeing this video demo for the gamecube:

And thinking, wow, what a great followup to OOT and MM they could make with those graphics (and Ganondorf's cool sword!  :argh: ). When I saw the first previews for WW, though, I was in fact very skeptical...

That was until I actually played it. The game, to this day, is solid. The story is nicely set up and is actually sort of dark. The setting is more or less a post apocalyptic Hyrule where everything has been flooded and entire species from previous games have become extinct.

The best part for me is the game play, though. While the sailing can get rather tedious at some points, the sword fighting and use of the items was very well put together. I loved the ability to counter attack enemies after making a quick dodge. Is the animation style a bit different? Sure, but Nintendo has always been a company more likely to go out on a limb.

Right now it's more just I don't have time to bother with it. lol Honestly I'm sure the next Zelda game I'll play will be whenever the new one comes out. I have nothing against people liking Wind Waker, was just giving you a bit of history from back then. I was a loyal Nintendo supporter going back to the NES (course back then it was just the Nintendo), then the Super Nintendo (Back during the 16 bit wars), followed by the N64. I and many others felt betrayed by WW. It's funny looking back now, because Nintendo does have the "it's a kids system" connected to it still. Which is just silly, but I think it's real. Still I can't hate Nintendo... never could. I grew up with it.

Yeah I understand. I'm not holding it against anyone who did not like WW.

This is trivial but I don't like when they change Link and Zelda's haircolors. They're both blonds in my book. XD

Link started as a brunette. Or atleast a dirty blonde. I'm giving away more of my age but I was a kid during The Super Mario Brothers Super Show, where one of the programs was Zelda and Link. Where he was famous for his line "Well excuse me Princess!" lol

But I know what you mean, I also think of Link as a blond.

Yeah I heard Princess Peach started out as a brunette too due to ingame pixel limitations and Mario's overall colors were reversed.
I really like the OOT Link and Zelda the best. I love Twilight Princess but the Link in there seemed really boyish/wimpy and the Zelda was too old/serious. Midna was a great addition though and I heard Ilia was based off Navi or something.
I really want a game where they bring Vaati the Wind Sorcerer back. He was a pretty badass villain in Minish Cap. Like..if he could be cool in a chibi gameboy game can you imagine how cool he'd be in a 3D console story? I dunno I consider him and Ganondorf the best villains in the series.
