I think the "intensity" (if you can call it that) of the pairing war is really based on the longevity of the Naruto series. If say, for example, Avatar the Last Airbender was a series that had the length of time that Naruto has, the Kataang vs Zutara stuff could probably just as major.

I will say this....I have never and will never see a pairing war like this one caused.

I don't know. I think the HP one was worse. I've also heard stories about Ranma 1/2.

Uh... there will be another one in another popular series, unfortunately. It's bound to happen.

I don't know. I think the HP one was worse. I've also heard stories about Ranma 1/2.

No...this has been the biggest.

Of all the pairing wars I have seen and been apart of, the NH vs NS pairing war has by far been the biggest. Never in my entire anime career has a website had to be shut down due to such a thing until this and I have seen quite a few pairing wars from InuYasha, to Ruroni Kenshin, to all the Gundam series and even harem manga/anime where things like this are bound to happen.

Sure, there are other pairing wars to be had and the HP is certainly a good example of one, but even the HP one has ever gone up to scale that this one has created. Trust me on this, it has gotten really bad. Why do you think some of us only stick to this website? I post a youtube video about Hinata (especially NH related) and in less than a day my channel has gotten a whole ton of views.

Will there be another one like this one? I don't know. Hard to top it in my opinion. I look at all the pairings wars that have occurred and they seem pretty tame compared to this one.

Naruto for me will always remain wasted potential, at least part 1 of the manga was excellent and it's sad that such a great manga sunk to such lows.

DBZ for me remains far better since it never has the pretense to convey a pseudo philosophical message it was just for action and I enjoyed it (it's the manga I grew up with so I may be biased). Berserk is excellent until you get to the point when you have to wait 3-4 months which destroyed my interest in the serie. I watched recently attack on titans thanks to my brother's adivce who is also the one who presented me Naruto and I've got to say it's superior to Naruto in every aspect (plot consistency, character development) but it's a bit overrated. I will give you that it's better than Saint Seiya but out of the 5 mangas I have ever read Naruto only comes at 4th place, still I want to see how it ends only then will I be able to give a fair judgement.

I can understand the opening poster's feelings. Having read so many manga over 30 years, Naruto is indeed one of the best written manga stories I've had the pleasure of reading. For me, the manga really hit it's stride in part 2. This has been amongst the best manga stories for really examining the big questions humans have philosophized about probably since we first evolved into creatures that told stories. Kishimoto makes readers think about those questions, at least for the time they see the characters struggling with those questions. Riyoko Ikeda's shoujo classic "Rose of Versailles" challenges the readers in a somewhat similar way, but on a smaller scale (it takes place in France just prior to the French Revolution, when it begins the readers don't know Ikeda will get them to think about social inequality, etc... but then as Andre and Lady Oscar see these things, and react, the readers do as well. Ikeda was one of the first manga writers to do something like this)

Yes, there are numerous other manga where the question of war and ending it comes up, but Kishimoto's take has been the most realistic and indepth I've seen. He also has taken real events in our world's history and put them in Naruto's world making them fit into that world, but hit you with the effects of those events on the people of those countries. The Rain Country story was an altered Vietnam in the Cold War story- used as a battleground between the two superpowers, etc...

Kishimoto's storytelling style reminds me of Gene Roddenberry's, but Kishimoto actually does it better than Roddenberry did.

  • Interests:Honestly, western sakura haters are pathetic (if your wondering why I say western, its because thats where all the sakura haters are) they hate sakura for the stupidest reasons, makes me wonder if they even read the manga for anything besides illogically hating on her, and even more so if they even read the same manga. Seriously they really are blind if they think sakura isn't the most popular female character in naruto and has a huge fanbase in japan, kishimoto-sensie's main fanbase. Honsetly, they aren't true naruto fans because they're practically bashing the main heroine of the series who has had AMAZING and deep emotional development, both romace-wise , character-wise and-power wise, and the love interest, Haruno sakura, of the main hero, Uzumaki Naruto. That alone is an insult to kishimoto-sensie's work. Not to mention they rub off the japanese culture, which is important to know if you wanna 100% understand the details of the manga.

My hobbies are drawing, and reading awesome facts about anything I love! Oh and how could I forget, I love playing on my PS3, my favourite online game is Team Fortress 2, favourite character to play with is the scout! (Although I love all of 'em).
Bless the PS2 era...and all those awesome games... (applause to you if you were part of that gaming age, jack and daxter, sly, spyro, crash etc.)

I personally love naruto manga. The characters are great, except for hinata. The storyline is also great. I enjoy naruto manga for reasons that have been stated above me!

In my opinion, a lot of Naruto's characters have unrealized potential. The cast is so big that many of them never get proper development, and it's kinda disappointing. I think Ookubo Atsushi, the Soul Eater mangeka, does a much better job a giving a more equal development to his cast, and his main heroine is never put on the sideline while all the boys do the heavy fighting, even though she's not as physically strong as them.

compared to other manga this one is very titular character centered. So we dont get to see any individual character development without Naruto buting in.

That's very true, after all this manga is called Naruto. More what I meant was that some characters get big developments in their own arcs, like Sasuke and Shikamaru, but others are mostly ingored because Kishi doesn't know how to handle this monster cast he has going, he introduces a lot of characters and then never does anything with them.

I hear those pairing wars were bad enough as it was. I didn't watch the series until after it had been completed, but I was always for Katara/Aang, I didn't know Zutara was a thing until much later.

The ideas of Chakra and jutsu are genius, and the romance is very well done, the art style is also something everyone can enjoy. The problem is that other than that I don't think this manga is excellent at anything else. Sure it may have done very well at certain times in the series, but it's quite inconsistent.

That said, it's good to see there are people who feel so passionately about this series, I'm sure Kishimoto would greatly appreciate it.

i agree...it is because there are too many of them they were given little focus. they should have done many great things if given enough emphasis. but i can also agree that naruto will always one of the best manga i read. :)
