"Well? Is it true?"

Veisch stood in the centre of the tent facing his old friend, a path of water left behind him from the shore, through the tent entrance and to his feet where a puddle was forming from the water still dripping from his robes.

A slow, almost silent breath wafted into his lungs as he tilted his face away from Kroik minutely, sleeves raising at his sides, long, moist spider-like fingers extending from under the fabric. He was silent as those long fingers rose to the hood of his robes and slowly peeled the heavy wet material from his sin.

His head was large and peppered with delicate splotches, his skin a pale grey-white, his eyes closed. Suddenly, his eyes flicked open and their unusual U-shaped pupils stared at Korik.

"Yes, the Dragons are gone," he breathed, one hand sweeping over his smooth, hairless head, another touching his robes at his stomach. "They have disappeared without a trace. I have searched, but found nothing. We are alone on this world."

He tilted his head downward, lips pursed slightly as he stared down unblinking at a hand. He stared at his other, than the other. Finally, all six of his hands slipped out from the shielding of his long sleeves and spread their long fingers in the air.

"What are we to do?"

Huge eyes stared at Korik with a piercing gaze.

"What doom will play upon us now?"

Korik felt a sudden urge to sit down. With the Dragons gone... Chaos was coming.

He sat gingerly down onto his pillowed chair. He was afforded few luxuries as Tribe Leader, but pillowed chairs were one of them.

Another drag from his pipe as he slowly calmed down. He was an Elephant. He was leader.

"I shall travel inland and speak with the Wolf Avatar. You must travel to speak with the Canines in general, should the Wolves disbelieve me. It has been long since any real warfare, and we shall need all the friends we can get."

He took a drag from his pipe.

"I know of an Avatar that may be easy to convince, Traeven of the Labrador Tribe. He is a strong and enthusiastic warrior. Go to him and speak with him, we shall need his strength."

He nodded to himself.

"I know you dislike the land, but this must be done."

He paused, suddenly aware that he had begun dictating over his friend as if he were in charge. He closed his eyes and berated himself quickly for such a faux pas.

"What say you?"
I'm just sitting here. Wondering what it'd be like To be with you.

She didn't have much of a reaction. Amira was very laid back, maybe even lazy. And she was damn proud of that fact. Embrace all your faults and strengths, someone once told her. Only, she's not sure which it is. Maybe both.

With another sighed, one with a more annoyed tone, she held her chin in one hand, and decidedly did not get up. "What's the point..?" the avatar murmured, almost to herself.

"Oh pish Amira, you just waaayyy too laid back, ya know. Get pumped! Get some excitement in you! We're going to get to take back what was stolen away from us a 100 years ago, by those pesky Dragons. What is rightfully ours. So, let's go out and celebrate with a good meal, and I'll even treat you to that drink that I owe you," Miyu said to Amira with a wink, as all the Felines at the meeting began to leave the large circular meeting hall, all chattering excitedly to each other about what the Tiger Avatar had told them.

"I don't think this is worth the energy I have to use to get 'pumped up'. But, I wouldn't object to that drink~" Amira offered a lazy grin. Really. She couldn't care less. But who says no to food and drink? Possibly free ones! Certainly wasn't her...

And then maybe she could get that nap. Naps were nice.

Right. Food. She was hungry, and hadn't gotten to eat yet. Stupid meetings. D:

Pulling the strap to tightend his traveling sack, Maicoh came to the outer border of a fellow canine tribe.

Normally, this trip would have been to the elephant tribes village for one of his visits to meet with their avatar, Korik. But before he had left, the elders spoke to him about reports of unrest in the western lands.

Thus his trip was detoured to a one of the canine tribe. He chose to personally visit the labrador tribe to speak with the avatar.

Maicoh, preferring his nickname Mac, took a quick swig of his water filled bottle gourd. He continued to walk toward the village stopping to speak with a guard. "Where can I find the your tribes avatar, Traeven?" Mac asked the young guard.

The young guard looked hard at Mac, oblivious to who was standing before. "And who seeks are avatar?" he asked.

Mac realized that the guard was inexperienced and had no knowledge of who Mac was. "Maicoh, avatar of the Wolves is here and request a meeting with him." The avatar noticed the guard eyes went wide.

"My apologies sir, I did not know who you were." The guard bowed realizing who was before him.

"No apologies is needed." Mac replyed gently. "But I still need to see Traeven."

The guard bowed again. "Yes, I shall get a messanger to seek him out right away."

"Thank you." Mac nodded to the guard.

Just as Amira and Miyu were about to leave to go find somewhere to eat and drink, one of the Tiger Avatar aides ran quickly up to them.

"The Tiger Avatar would like to speak privately with both of you, as fellow Feline Avatars. It is a matter of great importance. Please follow me."

Miyu looked over at Amira, and eyes twinkling she said, "we might as well go see what he has to say. I won't buy you that free drink, or the free food if you don't come with me."

Amira groaned. "The bastard just wants to rant about power some more. And maybe chew me out for being... I don't know, lazy. Or lethargic. Or something.."

A sigh, and she scratched the back of her head. An annoyed action, more than anything else. "Not like I have a choice..." With that, she followed the aide.

His large smooth head tilted downward in a bow, but one hand rose slightly, a finger raising to interject, a droplet of water slithering down a delicate knuckle.

"I shall go to the Labrador tribe, no doubt there is another Avatar nearby. I will speak to them, too. You need not go there," he stared unblinkingly at Korik, a bead of water trickling down the Octopus avatar's large forehead to fall to his eyelashes, unnoticed.

"You should go to speak with a neutral tribe. Your crafts will be used more easily there. I will survive on the land," his hand lowered once more to float in the air by his five others, his head tilting gracefully downward again in a respectful bow.

"Your thoughts?" he breathed.

"Your thoughts?" he breathed.

Korik nodded his head in agreement.

"If you believe this is the right decision, then we shall make it so. Meet with the Canines, and rally all members of the Alliance to the Snake Tribe. It is located at a pivotal juncture, from which we can safeguard our lands from the Feline menace. I shall travel there first, to see if we can win a bloodless victory on those grounds."

He tapped out his pipe, striding past his friend to hold open the flap. His pipe squirreled away within his simple robes quickly, allowing him to grasp his ancient weapon. A hewn Oak staff, double-tipped with the tusks of two ancient Bull Elephants. Blood stained the tips of the double-sided pickaxe, as Korik refused to wash the blood out.

"We must make all haste. I shall see you again on the grounds of the Snake Tribe."

And with that he strode into the light, grumpily shouting orders at his warriors, commanding his tribe to prepare for travel.
I'm just sitting here. Wondering what it'd be like To be with you.

The light cascaded into the tent through the flap and Veisch flinched away, body curling into itself and staggering back before the tent flap fell back into place and sunk him back into comfortable dullness.

"Yes, Korik my friend," he breathed, several hands floating upwards to grasp the damp hood hanging about his neck, peeling the heavy material from itself and slowly and carefully draping it over his large grey head. The hood hid everything under it in darkness and left only his lips to be barely seen.

The tent flap was lifted once more and Veisch swept from the location, sleeves almost brushing the ground as he seemed to float across the ground like a hooded phantom.

Already, the dry air was starting to prickle at his skin.

That'll do it. My thoughts floated around, as I glanced out the window again.

I sighed, daydreams slowly forming, full of growing wings and stuff like that.

-- but that was before I felt a hands on my arms and the tell-tale feeling (oh c'mon, for me it was shut up) of being dragged somewhere against my will befell me and my innocent nature of sightseeing and what the hell!

"What do you guys what!? I already told you I ain't--"

"Goin' nowhere, yeah blah blah blah you've got precious time blah blah you're needed elsewhere blah blah orphans blah blah blah. We know Kikipie. We just don't care for the trillionth time." The voices of two of the beefiest guys for teenagers you'll ever meet cut me off. No seriously, squirroids much? Anyway I growled and trashed and clung to furniture and trees and anything else that might get lucky if it happened to save me right about now.

And after awhile, I growled before crossing my arms in passive-agression, now being carried over SwartzeSquirrel's boulder shoulder. They laughed either way (sadistic bastards).

"Look Kikipie, did you really think you could avoid this? You've known for a few days now that you're supposed to be the messenger to the Canine Tribes for us," my friend (did that word mean nothing to anybody nowadays!?), Genji said.

"Yeah, Kikers. Big Furry ain't gonna like it if you keep him waiting," Ryu added, ever the eloquent. "Good thing--"

"I REFUSE! If you guys let me go I promise, maybe on a 2% chance in 90 years or so, I'll give you guys all the sexual favors you'll wa--"

There was a hush, a cough, something of a not-surprised silence, and a familiar glare behind me. About then I had to freeze because I think that we were...

"We're so there aren't we?"

"Yeah, Kiki, yeah."

"Dead furry walkin, yeah?"

"Shut up!"

"Kikioriand'r!" Came a mixture of my traditional name and anger and just a pinch of your BS is not worth my time. "Kikioriand'r. Come."

Faaantastic, was my only thought at the moment. Really what else could I think? Here we were in the meeting hall of the Squirrel Clan. The village's adults and anyone else who's important all seated around the middle, where the meeting itself was taking place. Basically all the village elders (heyyy Grandpa, I avoided eye-contact) were seated at a huge table where at the head, yup, sat head hancho, The mister All-Revel-In-My-Shiny-Importance Squirrel Avatar.

What can I say about this guy? He was everything the village stood for and more. The Squirrel Avatar was someone you didn't wanna mess with that was sure. Yeah sure, the squirrels in the war didn't matter much (we were wanted more for our speed in fighting instead of strength) and people even came with little or none fear for the worst when they visited our humble little village, but that was always taken back the second they saw the guy. He was big. Tall, muscular, regal looking, and hella battle-worn. Even if we hadn't had a war since a long while, the Avatar looked as if he were prepared for the worst.

Seems he's not too far off, from what I know.

Anyway there he was, standing now a few feet away from the table. Arms crossed. Stern but a weird warmth of a look on his face as he waited for me.

And I did. Sort of.

I trudged along, dragging myself, after letting out a quite groan, cursing slightly about two tards behind me, and finally I made it in front of him. Like looking up a mountain, I leaned back and waited for my punishment... again.

---

"Nuts! I can't believe he remembered! Man..."

And step by step by heavy step, a scroll in my side satchel, snacks in my pockets, things an up and coming Squirrel Avataressness lady person would need, I hiked closer and closer to the Canine's Village.

I, messenger for the Squirrel Village, needed the AOK for the Canine's assistance for the Squirrel tribes in case of ties totally breaking between the East and West. Pfft, good thing we've all gotten past that 'Oh look a ball of fur with legs! WOOF WOOF WOOF!' thing. Evolution and social establishment was always a kickass thing, y'know.

Melinda, Melinda, genius avatar of the Snake tribe, the young, beautiful and deadly battle extraordinaire.

Or at least she thought so.

Melinda gave a girlish chuckle and glorified herself in the mirror once more, it was the early morning and cooped up in her high tower Melinda was just finishing the last touches on her hair.

With the soft light peaking through her long curtains the Snake Tribe was one who was almost entirely unaffected by the brooding, dreary time of tribal wars. Not due to any stance of peace or neutrality on their part, no, just simply the comfort of knowing both feuding sides relied entirely on their word. The Snake's currently remained in the center, neither the Felines nor the Dragon side could assure their allegiance and it was the perfect maneuvering method for them.

Personally Melinda was slightly partial toward the Dragons, considering the long kinship of cold-blooded relatives the Snakes were very, very tied to their reptile lineage. It was almost insane to think that they hadn't decided immediately on an allegiance with the side defending the Dragons.

But the Snakes were an intelligent, noble and crafty race.

They couldn't simply dedicate themselves to a whole war against all Felines simply because of some blood-related loyalty.

That would be why today, Melinda as one of the delegated representatives for the Snake Tribe was to meet with the leader of the Tigers.

A simple diplomatic appointment to clarify which sides offer was most lucrative for the benefit of the Snake Tribe. And of course Melinda would be a rather persuasive candidate in assuring both parties full sincerity.

Especially with those extra shiny curls today.

With another light spray of perfume, a satisfied smile with her adoring appearance Melinda stood to wrap her dark purple cloak made of pure silk around her small frame and was off to dictate this war.

Even while juggling a flat loaf of bread and a half-eaten apple, Traeven had no difficulty picking up familiar scents as he wandered his village’s main street. He tilted his head a little and caught the sounds of light, peppery footsteps behind him. He grinned wickedly. Ah, those little buggers again.

He finished his apple and discarded the core, then tucked the bread under one arm. Rounding the next corner, he allowed the shadows to cloak his figure, efficiently losing himself in the folds even as he told himself that there was no need – it was just a well-driven habit of his. He heard the steps quicken and registered quiet puffing. Abruptly, Traeven whipped around and threw himself back out onto the open street.

“GRAAGH!”

The child squealed and almost tripped over her own feet, but Traeven’s hand shot out to grab her elbow, steadying her. “You scared me, you big meanie!” she cried.

He lowered himself to her height and gently pinched her cheeks. “Aww, don’t say that. If you and your little friend here would just leave my whip alone, I wouldn’t have to be mean.” Traeven reached behind him and tickled girl’s companion with uncanny accuracy. His chain whip clinked metallically as the boy released it with a burst of poorly stifled laughter. “Right, kiddo?”

Traeven entertained the children for a little longer, and then tried to make a point he had been proposing to them for weeks now. “It’s not a toy, you two. Sure, it’s shiny and pretty and I bet it looks cool on me, but you can’t play with this, alright?” He stroked the heavy, custom-crafted handle. He had given the children half of his bread and they had clumsily spilled crumbs down their front. How could he explain to those wide curious eyes that he had taken lives with this whip? “Just don’t,” he ended up saying, “or I’ll bite you. And you don’t want that, do you?”

The boy opened his mouth, quite possibly to claim that he wouldn’t mind; a scar would make him look manly. Thankfully, Traeven was spared from what would have been a very one-sided argument by the arrival of a harried-looking young man. Traeven sent the complaining children off with the rest of his bread and turned to face the messenger. Hmm, he knew this one – the new recruit who had abysmal tracking skills.

“There you are!” The messenger doubled over to pant. Traeven rolled his eyes and waited, restraining himself from teasing the poor guy. “Your... your presence is required... in the Hall.”

Traeven knew what to expect before the messenger had even finished relaying his breathless message. The majority of the messages he received directed him to the Hall. The Hall was the place where decisions concerning the Labrador Tribe were made. In other words, it was the elders’ favourite place to torture their Avatar.

The messenger hovered. “I was told to escort you,” he said hesitantly. Great, not even a chance of conveniently ‘forgetting’ the summon. Damn it.

Traeven groaned to the heavens as he dragged his feet toward the white edifice standing proudly in the village’s centre. “Why me, God?”

Waitting patiently outside the edifice, Mac chewed on a piece of dried meat. He preffered meat of many types to any foods of grain, even if it as dried meat. A messenger had came and escorted him from the gates to the village to where he currently stood.

He'd been patient enough to wait for the Labrador tribes avatar, although it took nearly all his patients to wait. Having grown up with a short-temper, waiting wasn't something he normally liked. Through his teachings with his tribes elders and the visits to meet with Korik, he learned to keep his temper in check.

Almost as though he thought he would be waiting longer, Mac noticed familiar face. He laughed to himself as he saw an annoyed avatar drag his feet toward the building that Mac was standing outside of.

"Well Traeven, you certainly look happy today." Mac grinned.

Traeven blinked in pleasant surprise at the figure standing in front of the Hall, eyes widening when the man spoke. He grinned widely. “Oh hey – it’s Mac!” He jogged lightly to meet the Wolf Avatar, brightly appraising the older man’s appearance. He keenly picked up that Mac looked a tad bit exasperated, as if he had been treading on the margin of impatience before his companion had showed up. Wow, Mac impatient? That’s a first, Traeven mused.

Despite his enthusiasm upon seeing his old friend, the Dog Avatar wondered what had brought Mac to the Labrador Tribe. Had he been summoned by the village elders? Looking into his friend’s eyes, Traeven detected a hint of obscurity that made him twitch uneasily.

Why did he think this had nothing to do with much-appreciated social gatherings? Cookies and reminiscing ‘good times’ didn’t seem to fit well into the picture, either.

“Let’s go inside,” Traeven said tightly, using his rare serious tone. “I bet they’ll feed us good stuff now that you’re here.”

Mac noticed the rare tone he heard from Traeven. Traeven serious!?! No... "Yeah food sounds good." he said.

"As you probably could tell, this visit is anything but a social one." Mac said walking with Traeven. " Although I wish it simply was just a social visit." He scratched his the back of his neck.

"Let's go ahead and get this meeting on then." Mac glanced to Traeven. "Would you be up for a sparring match after this?"
