You do not have to like animals, or even care for pets. But those of us who have pets know what that type of love is like!

I have a very fat, very lazy cat, named Gracie. She doesn't like people very much and you can only pet her a certain amount of times before she gets annoyed! She looooves to eat and meow for more food.

I just recently lost my dog, Niko. She was a pure bred yellow lab, and she was crazy. If you've ever seen Marley and Me, or if you've ever owned a lab... That was what Niko was like. She passed away the day I got home from school for summer vacation because she had Lymphoma. She was only 8 years old, and it was the most tragic day of my life. I even went and got a tattoo saying "Love" with a paw print for the "o", which I believe represents the love I feel for my pets.

Like I said, its totally okay if you don't like animals or pets, but there are some who know that the bond you have with a pet can be one of the most special things in the world (I'm praying none of you guys think I'm crazy!)

So, sorry if it's been done before, but please, feel free to share any stories you have of your pets, funny or sad with fellow pet lovers! (: Or anything about pets in general, advice, wishes, anything!

I agree.

My pets, no matter what, are my family. I treat them and love them as such. I don't care how long i've had them. To me, they will always be a part of my life. I've never forgotten any of my past pets, and I never will.

I've had 13 green singer finches since I was 5. I remember every single on of their names. They don't live long, but ever since I could remember, I would wake up to them singing every morning, and they would call to me when they needed feeding. Even though they were not 'tamed' birds, I made a connection with all of them. I can't imagine calling anywhere home without the song of these beautiful little birds. I have 4 of them now, a pair of parents and their two babies. I bred and raised them myself, and now the babies are completely tame, and follow us around the house and they sing to music with me.
This is Twitch and Sunny.

I have my precious baby, Coco. She's my 12 year old Border collie/german shepard/chocolate lab mix. I love her to bits. I've had her since I was 8. She's such a sweetheart, and a goofy girl. She loves play fighting, even at her age now. She's so energetic, and such a princess. We spoil her, haha.
My dad never wanted a dog, but he promised me I could get one if I got good grades in school.
When my mom told me that her friend was GIVING away puppies, I was SO excited.

I went to go check them out. Out of the entire litter of black puppies, I saw one tiny brown one, with little baige socks and "eyebrows". I knew she was the one.
She was so fluffy and warm. I held her and kissed her head for hours.
She's getting older now, and I don't know what I'll do when the day comes where she does pass... I can't imagine my life without her. She's been with me through everything. Like a best friend, or a sister.

Before Coco came along, when I was 6 I had a hound/collie/lab mix named Belle. We got her from the shelter. She was an outdoor dog. we built her a shelter in the yard, and no matter what we did, she always got out. After a few months, she got out one last time. We found her in the morning on the front lawn under our tree in the pouring rain with a broken leg and jaw. She was bleeding. She was hit by a truck and limped all the way back home. When my dad brought her to the vet to get her put to sleep, it was the very first and only time i've ever seen my father cry.
We buried her in my baby blanket. <3

Around the same time we had Belle, I also had a cat named Coucci. A small grey tabby. We got him from a local farmer, and had him for a good 2 years. He wasn't a very social cat, but then, he was very entertaining. My dad made the mistake of leaving the porch door open, and he got away. 3 days later, we found him under the deck and tried to get to him, but he ran off again, and we never saw him after that. It made me so sad. Not knowing where he was. But knowing he couldn't have made it far for too long. My area is known for being surrounded by coyotes and wolves. sad.gif

And then there's my new cat, Nikki. When my parents divorced 5 years ago, my brother and I were very depressed. My mom took us to see some kittens from a lady down the street. The kittens had been abandoned by the mother and were only 5 weeks old. The lady took care of them as best she can, but she was having a hard time. I spotted a little grey tabby tumbling around with his brother and I thought it was the cutest thing. He was so vocal too.
We took him home.
Now he's fat and happy, and we never thought he'd get so big. not really fat but just a big cat!

Nikki McFatass...not actually fat in these pictures.. --Click here to view--

Aww they seem really sweet. You're dog is adorable <3. I've always wanted birds, but my parents would never let me get them. It took them years to finally let me get a cat, let alone a dog haha.

Yeah.. Losing a dog is seriously super hard. With Niko, she was diagnosed with lymphoma on a Saturday, and my parents didn't tell me because I had finals and they didn't want me to come home or worry. Had they have known by that Monday that she would have to be put down, they would have told me so I could have said goodbye. I feel like even though I didn't have to see her sick or suffering, I've lost that sense of closure because I didn't get to say goodbye. I came home from school, hadn't seen my dog in over 3 weeks and super excited that summer had started, only to be told that she was gone. It hurts the whole family too. I had only seen my dad cry twice in my whole life.. the first time when I got into my car accident, and then when Niko died.

It's horrible. Never take your pets for granted because when they're gone it can be so lonely.

I'm saving up for a new dog though. After Niko, I realized my life really isn't complete unless I have a big ol' dog (:

Thanks; she's an adorable little kitty. Unfortunately, she's really timid when it comes to getting scratches and brushes. However, if you're looking for a kitten that'll jump on your lap intrusively, looking like she's going "LOL WATCH'A DOIN'?", she's your kind of kitten. : D

Also, she's called Squeaks because she doesn't meow like a normal cat; rather, she lets out little squeaks whenever she wants to say something. In fact, I can communicate with her somewhat by mimicking her squeak. We have the best non-plus conversations. XD

My kitty meows weird ways too actually, it's quite funny. When mom and dad got home from our cabin, he escaped and thought we would bring him with us, he hates travelling. so he was scared of our house and was out for like a day th_tongue.gif then he murmured when we tried to get him back. wot.gif

and my friends says he has the ugliest meow and try to mimick him rawr.gif and call him gangstahprince. XD

Haha my cat has become so spoiled, she will not come up on my bed unless I pick her up. She's fat, but she's not incapable of jumping. I think she fell once, so she's hesitant to try it again. But she will just meow at me from the floor until I get up and pick her up and put her on the bed. Its funny.. but annoying haha.

Aww, @Kamina-Yoshi, I want to hear that! (:

Mine turn their noses up at any food that's older than one hour or so. XD Also, Squeaks loves to get drinks from the bathroom faucet. Why?

Because she's a kitten. :'D

I've grown up with at least one cat in the house. For as long as I can remember, my family has always had them around. Currently, I've got two male tabby cats and they are both as unpredictable as ever (both are indoor cats, though they do sometimes slip out and lead us on a nice chase around the block, lol). Both have very distinct personalities.....for example, one is so freaked out by the outdoors he'll have a panic attack if you take him near an open door (he's fine looking out closed ones and sitting in open windows, though) while the other will slip out if he's in the mood and given the chance.

I have to agree, once they get into your heart, they are their for life, and that is something that is true for any pet. I've shead my share of tears when any of my pets died.

I've had a ton of pets in my life so far, the majority of them being dogs. I could go on and on about every single pooch I've ever owned but that would take forever! So I'll focus on my pets that I own right now. Currently I have three dogs that are all related. Fay (Valentine) Dante and Han Solo, just look at how my nerdism makes itself's shown through my dogs names XD They are all mini dachshunds Fay and Dante are the parents while Han is their son. I used to own another mini who was Han's sister and her name was Leia....again more nerdism. Her twin brother belongs to my best friend, and you guessed it his name is Luke. unfortunately Leia would attack her mother as she got older and the fights were getting worse and worse. Fay lost a part of her ear and dew claw in these fights. So I gave Leia do a friend and shes been with her new family a whole year already.

Now like I said before I've had a ton of dogs growing up, but dachshunds aren't dogs, no their ppl. I thought that I knew everything about dogs since I'd had so many but that all changed 9yrs ago when I was in college in Phoenix. My upstairs neighbor at the apartment complex where I lived owned a black mini dachshund named Daisy. She was just the cutest dog ever and when I get home from school or work Daisy would greet me if she was outside at the time. I flipped when my neighbor told me she was buying a puppy that would eventually become Daisy new mate. So around Christmas time she bought a red min and named him Otto. A year later they had a little and I reserved a little female. I remember I paid $150 as a down payment when she was born. John and I visited the apartment once a week to see our little puppy grow and get use to us. Then when she was ready to be picked up we walked (we had no car) to a payday loan place because I just couldn't wait for paid day. So there we were walking on a cool windy night to get a paid loan for our first pet together. We got back home around midnight and went over to pick up our little Fay Valentine (we were really into Cowboy Bebop lol.)

She was such a smart puppy and she was our first little four legged child. Sometimes she was just too smart for her own good lol. That little girl went everywhere with us and about 3yrs later we bought a friend for her, we named him Dante (Devil May Cry Dante) and they instantly became inseparable. Together Fay and Dante had 4 litters and from those 4 we personally kept two puppies. However other puppies from their litters went to my best friend and two of Johns close friends as well. So its cool getting to still see their puppies all these years later. John and I spoiled these dogs and when we found out we had a baby on the way we were scared. We had no idea how the dogs were going to react to a baby in the house. Well needless to say they loved Kaiden and were very protective of him. The same can be said about their behavior with Gideon.

Its cute getting to see Kaiden interact with the dogs more now that hes older. His favorite is Dante which is the most laid back with the kids. Fay is too scared of Kaiden lol so she stays away and Han plays with him but is still shy. These dogs are more then family and I just love how they take care of my children. Its hard to believe that Fay is already 9yrs old shell be 10 this October. It feels like I just got her yesterday. I never thought I'd love a breed so much but from here on out we will always own dachshunds.

I almost bought an arctic fox... that would have been cool.

@KonohaKitten, I love the names! Thinking of a good name for a pet can be one of the most exciting parts of getting a pet haha. I think I know the mother of my next dog. Niko was a lab and I'm realistic and I know that I can't puppy train or keep a lab in an apartment (thats cruel, they're the type of dog that needs LOTS of running space), I feel that I will always be a lab person. My friends have a pure lab puppy they want to breed and they said I would get a good price on one of the puppies in a few years... but until then I'll adopt a small dog from the local shelter (:

But.. what about Reeses for a yellow lab? Ha.

I have a kitten I got July of 2011 from the rescue shelter. Her name is Sayuri, which is Japanese for "little lily". She is a polydactyl and has 7 toes in the front paws and 5 in the back so she has a total of 24 toes which a normal cat has 18.

She seems to be picking up some weird habits for a cat. Her most recent activity is trying to climb up walls and she likes to eat hair ties.

Everyone has such cute animals here. <3

I finally got around to recording my kitten; there are only three squeaks in here, but I think I prove my point that Squeaky definitely is an adorable wittle kitteh.
