With Naruto and Sakura, everything was so......natural. There was no forced cringing romantic moments to beat the audience over the heads that these two are a couple, they just interacted with each other in a comfortable non-awkward yet still intimate manner. They weren't showcasing how much they DESERVE to be in love with each other like some prize, they showed the organic and realistic steps in falling in love. That is what made them so convincing. they have shown time and again that they are each other's emotional pillar and comfort the other during tough times. Yet they show to have a healthy and and normal social life and have fleshed out personality even without the other around, that what makes them such a wonderful couple. Yet all of that was ignored for %#$^ing FAN SERVICE and WISH FULFILLMENT
It was clear from the earliest parts of the manga, the rules are that a woman can be fierce to everyone else but is kind/tender to the one she loves. Shika says this about his mother. Yamato and Sai say this about Sakura's actions to Naruto, and even Sasuke is aware that she treats Naruto differently. Jiraiya says this about Tsunade. And fast forward to the end, and Minato says this about Kushina, directly connecting her to Sakura!!!!!
So it's clear, from the beginning of the manga, that Sakura's storyline was to be fierce on the outside, even to Naruto when in public, but to have a big soft spot for Naruto that only Naruto sees. It is repeated over and over and over. This was her character evolution, not to stay with the person who has caused her the most pain, and killed more people than anyone else.
And never was it to be that hero falls for the wallflower, just because she's a nice person. It was never supposed to be that Naruto pulled Hinata out of her self-imposed obscurity because suddenly he thinks she's suddenly less weird or something!
