It's hard to believe that someone would base the canon couples in Dragon Ball to the soon to be canon couples of Naruto, that makes no sense whatsoever. I mean Dragon Ball is probably the worst anime to use when trying to make a point when it comes to romance. Akira Toyirama didn't do a very good job when it came to relationships with his characters that were a couple, then again he admitted that he sucked at romance. I never agreed with Goku going with Chichi, there was nothing there, the only reason why it happened was because Goku wouldn't back down from a promise. Sure over time Goku probably learned to care and love her but I firmly believe that Goku loves and cares for all his friends so I don't feel that he see's Chichi in a different light, despite the fact that they are married. Bulma on the other hand was with Goku from the beginning,and it's clear that they have a very strong friendship. My favorite part about their relationship is that whenever there is an enemy Bulma knows without a doubt that Goku will win. She has undying faith in him, just like Sakura does with Naruto. So yes Bulma is indeed like Sakura but the big difference is that there is romantic tension between Sakura and Naruto when there wasn't any with Goku and Bulma. Also comparing Hinata to Chichi is just hilarious, I mean she's even more violent and mean then Bulma for crying out loud. I can see Sakura being a bit harsh with Naruto but there is always a reason. Chichi is usually annoyed and mad with Goku 24/7. Then we can't forget that Goku never saw Bulma or Chichi in a romantic way, but Naruto makes it clear who he loves, and even though he was kinda based on Goku it's easy to see that Naruto isn't clueless when it comes to romance and what he wants.

Vegeta is my best friend's favorite character. Piccolo is his favorite after Vegeta. Watching Buu pushing Piccolo around got him upset.

 

I liked Yamcha. Firstly because I like wolves (dumb reason, I know). And later because I pitied him. During the first arc he seemed a strong rival. After that storyline he was not powerful enough to be one of the big shots, and although he tried hard he could not outdo Krilin in, er, "try-hard-ness". So I was sorry for the way he was pushed in the sidelines. Still, that was an early warning of what would happen to the ninety percent of the cast (it reminds me of what happened in Family Matters -a sticom-, but that is another story).

Yes, he said he did not like to write romance (in a Dr. Slump episode he is showing what the characters will be doing in the future. After showing all obvious couples ended up married he joked that "I think the guy writes this story has no imagination"). I do not know if he has ever told this, but I am fairly sure of what Toriyama really loves to make is comedy.

 

 

 

Then we can't forget that Goku never saw Bulma or Chichi in a romantic way, but Naruto makes it clear who he loves, and even though he was kinda based on Goku it's easy to see that Naruto isn't clueless when it comes to romance and what he wants. 

Yes, a character being similar to another does not mean they will be equal (not long ago I read someone claiming all anime main characters were the exact same thing in the seventies. People proved him that was untrue and that even characters that shared the same stereotype were different, but he ignored them). And Naruto has already shown he is not exactly like Goku.

 

For one, he has always shown he is interested in girls.

 

You would have more luck comparing Luffy with Goku, since from what I know, Luffy does not care for romance and girls, but he stands up for his friends.

I never heard Kishimoto saying DBZ inspired his couples personally. Besides he paired them up on a whim cause 1) He did not want Goku and Bulma to end up together at all, and 2) apparently Vegeta and Bulma was an attempt to piss off fans so he could end the series at that point, as I heard Derock say. So don't pay it any mind, because they are two different mangaka with very different intentions and approaches witht heir pairings.

Chichi ended up with Goku even though she's not a main character, and the pairing is not developed. It kinda reminds of Naruhina tbh. I can see Kishi making NH canon and coming up with excuses like Niji died and Hinata is lonely so she needs Naruto so he can protect her etc... Then, time skip Sakura with Sasuke's child. Just like Bulma and Vegeta. I won't be surprised if something like that happened in Naruto. Writers can screw up at times, just look at DBZ weird pairing.

I think the situations are pretty different. Toriyama wasn't interested in giving romance any real relevance in Dragonball, hence the rushed -- or lack thereof -- development with Goku and Chi Chi and having the pairings of Vegeta and Bulma and also Krillin and 18, happen during time skips. Bulma may have been the female character Goku had the most interaction with, but none of it (at least to me) came across as even remotely romantic. Seriously, Goku even had trouble telling male and female apart in the beginning. I can't say I see it as even comparable to the way things are in Naruto.

 

Kishimoto has put far more effort into his romance subplot than Toriyama ever did. Naruto and Sakura do have significant romantic development, as well as various hints pointing towards a future relationship between them, and SasuSaku is portrayed as blatantly negative. Kishi has laid the groundwork for NaruSaku and he's given no indication, from my perspective, that he doesn't intend to follow through with it.

 

I don't believe the pairings in DBZ were a matter of the writer "screwing up"; Toriyama just didn't care. Kishimoto at least seems to be trying -- though it certainly hasn't been flawless -- and I don't think he's unaware of what he's set up.

Problem was Goku was morally obligated to marry her....that's the only real reason, he felt bad about misunderstanding what a wedding was he still doesn't otherwise he wouldn't continually leave his family behind to train some more.
