It's crazy isn't it? Looking back on the manga, she really hasn't done anything to deserve the hate she gets though. Everyone just ride along hate trains, without knowing why, and without good reason.

I despise hate trains. People should only hate things for justified reasons, not cuz all the other dumbasses are doing it.

I don't mind at all.  You're right -- it is Yurei.

Yeah, I know I haven't updated in a long time.  Lots of reasons why, but mainly health problems dogging me.  However, I still hope to update both Wilderness and my Gaara fic.  I want to finish both stories with the characters and their futures as I imagined them.

The only other fandom I've written for is Harry Potter.

Thanks for asking, Codus

I'm really happy to hear this! I remember you saying that you wouldn't continue the stories because you were so disgusted with Kishi and I was really sad because Wilderness is one of the best stories I ever read.

Too bad the ending actually validated these people who went on the Sakura hate train

Don't worry Aizen, I'm not a 24/7 cop. Unless I'm on call.

@griff: Yeah I mentioned in another thread that Kishi's initial depiction of Sakura ruined her from the get go. The fans just never got past her introductory personality. They refused to give her a chance.

You know what they say: first impressions are everything. And that includes fiction as a whole. Including its characters.

The saying can, however be circumvented if the author gives a damn about the characters to give them the development they need. Hell, Hinata has more development (though not as much as she could have), and that's saying something.

I'm rather apathetic towards the Naruto franchise right now, including Naruto and Sakura. (Though I still ship NaruSaku and love Shina-chan. They're just not much of my focus right now.) But I can't and won't hate either of them. I love their characters, just not what the ending and beyond made of them. I will never consider the ending canon. I acknowledge it as canon, but to me it simply isn't.

First impressions aren't actually everything and they're certainly not an excuse to hate a character when they've proven time and time again that they are not worthy of that hate. Take FMA as an example: I completely hated Scar in the beginning for being what seemed like a religious serial-killing nutcase. But as his story unfolded, that it wasn't just God he was killing for and was actually trying to avenge his murdered family, I started to understand him and he eventually became one of my favorite characters at the end. He's still worthy of hate but his legions of fans prove that wrong.
So you see, the whole anti-Sakura argument of her character being ruined from the beginning is just an excuse for haters to keep on hating her because Sakura has more than proven in Shippuden that she is not that shallow useless brat we got at chapter 3 (well, except at the very end but people still hated Sakura way before the ending came out)

The haters have one thing on Sakura, and it's that she never moved past her childish crush on Sasuke. At some points I think there were signs and hints of it (Kishi did say he considered NS), but as getting into the DBZ fsnbase has taught me, a lot of fans are awfully adept at missing subtle hints when it comes to character interaction.
It makes me sad that that's all the haters can see, though. Kishimoto made a mistake in making that Sakura's most noticeable attribute, but it's not all there is to her character.

Sakura's love for Sasuke makes me sick. I don't even find it romantically poetic. It's not done right.

Oh crap, my last post was meant to read "signs and hints of getting over it". Like Kishi was toying with the idea of Sakura getting with Naruto.
I do agree with you. Fictional relationships are hardly realistic in the first place, but I dint know of any girl who would have an obvious preteen crush on a guy, then not only to continue to pine after him for years, but despite being betrayed by him. If a guy did that to me, I would most certainly not continue to pursue him.

Unfortunately, as nar said, the ending justifies the hate. She deserves the hate she gets, just as everyone else does.

It's my problem with her canon wise.

Ditto, especially since it felt like she was in early Shippuden, given her willingness to strike Sasuke when he was tearing into Naruto, Sai, and Yamato/Tenzo.

Why does it seem to be such a thing in shonen to give female characters such exaggerated traits to the point that a majority of the fanbase cannot look past that even if they actually do have more to their character?

In any case, yeah...Kishi reversed a lot of Sakura's development by making SS canon. To me the solution is simple: 699/700 and the new era project is a lie. I pretend they never happened and I can still love Sakura for what she could have been.

Because shounen manga is sexist with the exception of FMA.

The nice guy/bad boy polarity of Naruto and Sasuke is really terrible and gives out bad messages. That all women prefer bad guys who treat them like kitten when that is not true. Kishimoto only passes on the stereotypes.
