[Kagomaru]

Ok so. I think my expectations were high, which is kinda my fault honestly. I finished the game, and now I don't think there will be KH4 or anything like that tbh.
 
 
I'm not that deep into the fandom, just a casual gamer who fell in love with the Destiny Island trio and Sora's charming and heartfelt interactions with Disney characters.
 
But I think KH3 is geared toward dedicated, non-casual fans whose waited so patiently and played every single one of the games and maybe googled a couple theories, and that's okay. I've skipped out on the mobile game and DDD because I didn't think they were importantwhich turned out to be quite the opposite, esp near the end, which confused me a lot.
 

my thoughts on the good & bad

I finished the game, and it turned out to be a solid 7/10 for me.
 
The good was with the visuals and gameplay:
The graphics were spectacular. How it smoothly transitions from a cutscene to battle without losing it's quality is incredible. You can see how eerily real life the characters are in The Caribbean. Technology has made major leaps in just a decade, truly amazing!
The worlds were much more expansive than I thought. The Caribbean was hella expansive, and the details were spot on. Arendelle surprised me the most, it was fantastic and the final boss there was the one I enjoyed fighting the most.
Gameplay was good, it felt like a holiday with all the sparkles and blasts. Tangled keyblade was by far my favorite, and the Attractions was addicting! (The bosses were more on the easy side though.)
I didn't think I'd like the gummi phone as much as I did lol. I took so many pictures, it was really neat.
 
The problems for me lied in the storytelling and atmosphere:
The cutscenes were so long and painful to bare. And the voice acting had the feel like the actors themselves knew nothing about what was going on, which affected the smoothness. The only time where I felt that the dialogue really landed was when it was lifted off the movies.
Now the storyline. I mentioned that I didn't play everything they'd pushed out, but even so there was just... so much going on? A million ends to resolve that it just got all tangled up and made no sense in the end. Like the feeling of "whose this guy? I thought he was that guy!" and "what's the goal again?" stayed with me the entire time.
And they really damsel'd Kairi didn't they. After all that "training" with Lea she just held her keyblade and took a few swipes and that was it. Got kidnapped and killed again then saved by Sora who ended up god knows where to. Wow. Greatest disappointment for me by far.

you missed the part where it was explained by Chirithy as well as Namine(if you talked to the NPC stars to trigger her cutscene)in the Final World that Kairi was literally keeping everyone else from passing on to the afterlife because she was using her light to keep them alive? Or that she was guiding Sora to regroup with the others? Also, she did manage to temporarily take out Xion in the fight against her and Saix in the first round, whether you choose to help her fight or fight with Axel against Saix. Either way, she's scripted to win that fight. She was an MVP when it mattered.

As for KH4, Nomura made it clear in several interviews in the past that the series would go on beyond KH3 because this was only the ending of the first saga, and Sora would remain the central protagonist. And nearly all of the hints in the game such as Subject X, the X-Super/Black Box, Xigbar's real identity, the return of the Foretellers and the Master, makes it clear that a sequel is forthcoming; especially the secret ending.

I know and that’s great, but what about actually playing as Kairi? Like we did with Riku and Sora? She had a beautiful keyblade, and a fighting stance identical to Soras. I think that would have been even better. I’d like to play as her to see what other moves she might have had. Isn’t she a main character? I’m not hating on her. That's cool and I respect your position on it since I wanted the same, plus team Limits with the other Guardians of Light. Nomura did mention that we'll get a massive Final Mix-esque DLC in the future, so maybe we'll get that.

We probably won't see it for a while. Nomura said that his team is currently "on break" after completing KH3 and he's still working on FFVII(which he's been working on alongside KH3).

Not holding my breath for it considering how long it took for this one to come out. They may add in a ton of side games in the mean time though

Well, it may not take that long. Nomura clarified not too long ago the two main reasons KH3 was delayed: Square Enix and Pixar. Pixar was apparently being stubborn about sharing the license of Toy Story and didn't respond to Nomura's request to incorporate it into the game until several years after KH2. Then later you have Square demanding that he switch from their in-house game engine to the Unreal 4, which meant he had to remake the game from scratch(and he reported that they were over 50% into development when Square ordered them to start over).

Gosh, this explains a lot. That's just horrible to force everyone to start over when they were half-way done, even if it was a business decision. This has me feeling that the corporations had more power dictating here than Nomura did in his own game.

Add to the fact that he was working on KH3 concurrently with FFVII R, which he's still working on(along with DLC for KH3). SE put a lot on his shoulders and didn't make it easy for him
